lol just type [QUOTE#] before whatever you quote, and then [/QUOTE#]. But don't use the # sign in either one. Obviously, I had to do that or it would quote "before whatever you quote, and then" lol

I learn something new everyday!

Re:someone's question about additional letters (I am loser and haven't bothered to figure out how to quote people on sdn 😛 ):

"Please do not submit more than four (4) letters of recommendation if you are submitting individual letters and one (1) letter if you are submitting a Pre-Medical Advisor or Committee letter."
(from the 'Important Information Regarding the Supplemental Application' page at
http://www.med.uvm.edu/Admissions/TB1+RL.asp?SiteAreaID=647 )

Their supplementary email was so nice! It had a nice little blurb about why their school is awesome which surprisingly few schools include. It almost sounds like they want us to apply rather then just wanting to make our lives difficult. (I like this secondary!)

crapppppppppppppppp!! why didnt i see this? i read that you can send more but they only look at the 4 to complete your application! damn i sent in more 🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁

i'm a lil confused. i know my school does "committee letter" that includes the overall letter and all my other professors. i seem to not be able to follow directions in this simple app.

Please indicate on the supplemental application the recommendations you are submitting that fulfill our requirements (2 science, 1 non-science). We will accept all letters submitted via the AMCAS letter service, however, your file will be considered “complete” once we process the letters that meet our requirements.

this is what i read and thought i can send more! are they strict with the 4 letters max?! :scared:

Well, look at it this way, if they let you change your app to inform them of your speeding ticket, then they are nice! I'm actually curious to see if they do, so could you let us (or at least, me) know? It would go to show how strict they are with their stuff.

the lady was very friendly on the phone! she just said for me to email it, and they will add the info to my app. can anyone who still has access to application copy and paste me the directions as to what to put? i had a similar question for cinci, and i wrote a short lil paragraph explaining my ticket, not sure if they wanted more or less than that for vermont.

also heads up, the lady told me the person who usually checks the email [email protected] is on vacation, so if you have something urgent, probably would be better to call.

Thanks for letting us know! Glad it worked out for ya!

i have an "i'm a paranoid idiot" question. i put on my application spreadsheet that the fee waiver was automatically recognized by UVM but now that i've submitted the app i can't tell if this is actually true (i assume it is, but again, i'm paranoid). can someone clue me in?

I don't know the answer, but I do know that Pat at the Adcom office is really nice and really helpful. I'd just call.

auto-recognized

Girl you know I, I, I

Don't plan on hearing anything from this school unless you stay on top of them btw

I'll add to the staying-on-top sentiment.

I was waitlisted at UVM and had just about given up hope in mid-July. One day I loaded up their admissions contact page and called two different people every day from Monday through Thursday... I was accepted on Friday.

I also believe it helps to be a little more candid than you would think. Let them know why you really want to go to the school on a personal level.

Edit: Of course, I am talking about the previous admissions cycle.

Did anyone else get this email? I think I got some weird internal admissions message by mistake (?)

Dear Thursday Committee,
We are in the process of updating our committee roster for nominations to the Dean for the Admissions Committee for the upcoming season. At this time, we have your name on the Thursday subcommittee list. Please contact us as soon as possible if you have any concerns surrounding this nomination or if Tuesday would work better with your schedule.
We are looking forward to another exciting season.

Lol, yes I am assuming it is an error unless you are applying there, and also working on the admissions committee at the same time lol.

this secondary asked about speeding tickets? I don't remember that! do I need to call them and amend my app.? I have had several, but not for years. that's basically how I answered the Cinci question.

happened to me too. all i saw was something along the lines of criminal convictions and just skipped it over. then i remembered reading this thread and seeing parking tickets, and lo and behold, it's in the FAQs. i called them up, and the lady was very friendly. just said to email the info, etc. i'll give em a call to ask.

thanks for the reply. I looked in the FAQs but didn't find anything about tickets. they want to know about *parking* tickets, really?? I've had maybe 6 or 7 speeding tickets, but parking tickets...I'm probably in the triple digits over the course of my driving life! of course, I always pay them promptly...

Criminal Conviction or Adverse Judgment

Parking violations are the only convictions/judgments you are not required to document. Please follow these guidelines:
For speeding tickets: you do not need to list them if they occurred 5 years ago or longer.
If you have received more than three (3) tickets in the past two (2) years, you must submit copies of the documentation of the offenses. Please contact the jurisdiction that issued the tickets to have copies submitted to the Office of Admissions.
Other Convictions: all other convictions/adverse judgments must be listed on the supplemental application and documentation may be required, regardless of the amount of time that has passed. As noted on the Supplemental Application, failure to provide accurate information may provide grounds for disciplinary action, including dismissal or revocation of an offer of admission. Admitted students who enroll at UVM COM will be subject to a criminal background check prior to the start of classes in August 2010.

When you were calling these admissions people, what kind of stuff did you say?

"Any news on my application?" or "I love Vermont so so so much."

aw, thanks linkin06 - you are better than the FAQs! no idea how I missed that. I haven't been (caught) speeding in over 5 years, so I'm good...thanks again and good luck w/the apps!

I was verified two weeks ago and still have not received the secondary...has anyone else had this problem?

Same boat. Did you at least get an email acknowledging they received your primary app?

I never got an email acknowledging receipt of my primary application, but they did just send me the secondary today (and its been at least 2 weeks since I added them to my amcas app)

has anyone gotten a "you're complete" email?

Hey, I got my secondary this morning.it took a little over two weeks after verificaiton

I also saw this after I had AMCAS send my letters (my bad), but I wrote the admissions office an e-mail explaining why I had sent 5 (essentially trying to make it look like I meant to send them 5 all along and hadn't just failed to read their instructions carefully 🙄)- that my fifth letter is coming from my current employer, knows my research best, etc.

Hey guys,
I'm a little confused on the participation frequency part. If, for example, I had a summer job that I only did for one summer, but did full time for that summer, do I put "summers only" or do I put "continuous weekly activity throughout"? And, for example, I did a volunteer translating thing in Honduras but it was only a week long, and I did an internship at a hospital for a month. For those do I put "once only"?
Why do these things have to be so complicated????????

for the summer one you should put summer only, and for the one week i think once but im not 100% sure on that one! they see it on your amcas application anyway so dont worry too much 🙂
