Is there a list of student host contact information somewhere? or do I need to email the school to get a copy? Also, for my interview, I need to stay there two nights. Are student hosts only one night stays?
Thanks in advance! (and for answering my previous question)

On the status page, there's a link to the list of student hosts. I think it's all up to the student whether he/she will let you stay for 2 nights.

I've also had the MAY message for a few weeks now. ive noticed on this thread that it seems that more 3s are getting interviews than 2s, so im starting to wonder which one is truly higher. have any 2s received interviews recently? good luck everyone!

yeah i noticed the same thing! didn't want to say anything lest i make it any more real lol. patience is a virtue, i keep telling myself........👍

haha sorry I didn't mean to sound like such a pessimist. thank you everyone for the positive words. bebop, our time will come 🙂

when i signed up the earliest offered was nov (i scrolled down and everything). i think either some dates just randomly open up as people withdraw or switch when their interviewing, or they must reserve some sept/oct dates just for in-staters.

im oos and got an invite last week. im interviewing oct 14 so iono.

They send out acceptance on Oct 15th, December 15, Feb something, and some other date.

March 15 is the last acceptance day. After that they form the wait list.

..my status page still shows the "further" message but I received an interview invite via email. ..so I don't have that link on my status page..

really? i think everyone with an invite got an email saying their status was updated! maybe try calling them..

So if I were to interivew on Oct.13 and they let peiople know on Oct. 15 and Nov. 17 and Dec. 15....could I potentially find out two days after?

It's possible but not super likely. The admissions committee only has meetings on Mondays (unless that has changed) and your file must go to the committee for a vote before you can be ranked. You can ask Dr. WC at your interview though.

so if they require a response within 2 weeks of extending you an acceptance. that doesn't give you much time to interview and hear back from other schools huh?

You can hold multiple acceptances, so accept as many offers as you can, until at least May 15th when deposits are no longer refundable. But if you're willing to lose the deposit, you can hold your acceptances until they start enrolling.

it's also important to drop the acceptances to schools you know you're certainly not going to attend. that way any wait lists can start moving for others. 🙂

I don't want to derail this thread, but...you are entitled to hold on to as many acceptances as you want until May 15. Wait lists are not used by the vast majority of schools until after that date, so telling people to drop their acceptances before that date is misguided in the belief that it will help someone else.

Many people wait until all finaid packages are given, and that is another reason they hold on to acceptances until the last possible date. It is impossible to know for sure where you will go without having the financial aid to compare.

From http://www.aamc.org/students/applying/policies/applicants.htm
AAMC Recommendations for Medical School and MD-PhD Applicants

"8. In fairness to other applicants, when an applicant has made a decision, prior to May 15, April 30 for MD-PhD applicants, not to attend a medical school or program that has made an offer of acceptance, the applicant promptly withdraw his or her application from that (those) other school(s) or program(s) by written correspondence delivered by regular or electronic methods."

I'm not trying to derail either... I was just pointing out the suggestion from AAMC and that people should drop when they are absolutely sure. I didn't suggest that people should drop before they aren't absolutely sure.

it makes total sense.. a lot of people apply for "back up" schools so when they actually get in their dream school it is only fair that they drop the other acceptances that they are holding!

This will get debated ad nauseum in months to come...and there will be people on both sides of the issue.

Let's keep this thread on VCU.

As the other people have already said-If you know you won't be attending a school for sure, drop your acceptance. But you can only hold multiple acceptances until May 15th. It's not just that you lose your deposit after that date, that's the date where the schools find out you have multiple acceptances. At that point they have the right to call you and tell you decide immediately or they can withdraw the acceptance offer.

interview! Complete 8/24 (with "may" status right away), <3.5 GPA, <36 MCAT, OOS, not URM, 5'10, likes long walks on the beach etc, anything else?

ah, my weekly post of whining. complete 8/5...status is still 'complete' . you guys think it's worth calling to see what's up?
or would that just anger the beast

got the "MAY" status update today. Complete a little more than a week ago.

OOS 3.8cGPA/3.7sGPA 33Q

I hope I get an interview..while doing the essay I developed a liking for the school.

Seems like some people who get "MAY" get interviews ?

anyone else STILL not hear anything, almost 6 weeks after the secondary was submitted? only have the complete message...

I've been complete since 7/30 and no changes neither...

Complete since 8/6 too and nothing but complete. I feel like they just forgot about my application, since when i emailed them they said my file was waiting to be checked out, whatever that means.

Freaking VCU almost gave me a heart attack.

Just got an email about a "status update" and I interviewed there last week.

It was a damn interview survey.

Jeez man, what a rotten thing to do to someone.

It means your file reviewer hasn't picked up your application yet. And be patient... it took more than a month for me to get a status update too, and I was at the head of the pack. I imagine they're a good deal more busy now.

Interview Invite!!! 😀 Had status message #3 for a few weeks.... The earliest interview date was in January 🙄

Good luck to the rest of you! :luck:

i've had the may message since sep 4. should i be expecting an interview anytime soon? people who have the #3 message are getting plenty interviews, so I was just getting curious about us "may" people.

thanks

I understand your frustration.. i've been waiting since 7/31

Interview Invite! OOS
Had the "further" status

no interview dates until February though

I'm guessing March, since in the MAY status, they say they'll notify us in March if they are unable to interview us.

I can guarantee that there will be an incredible amount of people withdrawing from late interviews due to higher priority acceptances.

I can see that. With all the interest they've shown in my application, I would readily withdraw if I got accepted to a couple of other schools I applied to.

Still right there with you bud as far as interview. Maybe we'll hear together again haha.

the only available interview dates are february? i just got invited recently. isn't that kinda ridiculous? the interview is gonna be for waitlist spots.

Not necessarily. If you interview in February, you could get accepted on March 15th.

So, im curious do they assign priorities to different files or every reviewer has a different batch to check? Either way, it seems that there are less interview spots the more we wait without a status.

seriously, i wouldn't mind it as much if they actually had decided to review based on completion date and I'd gotten a hold or rejection...but the fact that I submitted so early and not even be reviewed is ridiculous.

No it won't be. They DO NOT interview for the waitlist. The waitlist isn't formed until March 15th. MCV is a little different because they do not over accept-they never have more acceptance offers on the table than they have seats. Everyone who interviews is given a number ranking and put on a list. Each acceptance day they take the top group of people and send out an acceptance. It is completely possible to interview the first week of March and get an acceptance on March 15th. It happens every year.

Interview Invite! OOS

yeah i got the invite yesterday oos with further status but there were december interviews then...

so i got an interview invite last night...but on the status page it says there are no interview slots available. wtf. they're really booked all the way through february? sounds pretty ridic. i guess i need to call them on monday?

letigre, I also got this message this morning. I emailed them, so if I get a response before the end of the weekend I'll let you know what they said. I couldn't believe one night of waiting would screw me over this badly... lesson learned. 😳

i received an invite last night, just checked, and no dates. it is strange since last year, someone received an interview invite on sep 21 and scheduled for oct 28th. are they way ahead this year or what's up?

it's frustrating since this is only my 2nd invite, but can't schedule it?? or at least cannot schedule it early if they are truly full through Feb already.

just venting, i am a re-app and need to get in this year therefore need all the interviews I can get

Pure speculation on my part, but I will not be surprised to learn that apps to VCU have increased a bunch this year. My guess is that they are having a huge year and it is reflected in the interview scheduling.

VCU's rep is growing, and it is becoming known as one of the schools that applicants from states like California can shoot for (if they are not quite up to par numbers-wise for their own state schools).
