Status #2 - We MAY not be able to interview all applicants at your priority score. We will contact you in March if we are unable to offer you an interview. (emphasis the school's)

Status #3 - We would like to consider your file further before making a determination as to whether or not to interview you. (emphasis mine)

Both are paraphrased, but the MAY and further is what we go by.

so I have been complete since the 26th of august with no news

is there some kind of timeline that people are aware off about when I should expect something

I should add that I am not a VA resident

i called and they gave me more info....i dont think they update the status page very often.

I got a status update post-interview. It says:

"The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for action at a later date. We anticipate making offers October 16, December 15, February 1, and March 16.

You will receive no further communication from us concerning your hold status. The next status change will be to offer you a position in the class, to notify you that you have been placed on the alternate list in late-March, or to notify you that the Committee will no longer be considering your file.

We thank you for your interest in our school."

Does everyone get this message post-interview before VCU releases acceptance or am I on some kind of special hold?

Alright guys, I'm joining the madness. I'm submitting this tonight and even though it's super-late, I'd be happy for an opportunity to interview for spots on the waitlist.

Hm, they haven't sent out acceptances like EVMS, so I wouldn't worry too much about that status. I'm interviewing in a couple of weeks. Any advise, ilovewater?

My interview was pretty laid-back and conversational. Even when he asked hypothetical questions or ethical questions, I didn't feel intimidated or flustered at all. They were strange questions...but reasonable. I would just say be yourself and don't get too nervous! And good luck!

I got that one, too, and IIRC, everyone gets it.

I am curious, though - it says October 16 - I wonder if this is a change of plans, because at the interview they said Oct 15?

At my interview day, Dr. Whitehurst-Cook said October 16. Just one more day of waiting...-.-

Following AAMC's common dates they aren't supposed to release decisions on regular applicants until the 16th.

Just submitted tonight. The app wasn't too bad.

If you were invited for an interview and there weren't any interview slots available what ended up happening? Anyone have any success rescheduling or waiting for an earlier interview day slot to open up?

Yes, that's the status update everyone gets post-interview.

well that's not entirely true, this is what I got yesterday

"Your complete application has been considered carefully by the Admissions Committee, and we regret that we are unable to offer you a position in the class beginning in August 2010.

The Committee understands the disappointing nature of their decision and urges you to consult with your pre-med advisor to discuss the possibility for improvement of your application.

We wish you the very best of success with your alternate plans."

I was a little confused because I'm instate and based on my stats I considered VCU a backup. I also thought my interview went well but I did notice that most of the other people in my interview group were older and had lots of medically related work experience. It just goes to show you that you never know what could turn off an adcom...fortunetly i have some other interviews to fall back on, but this has really shown me that you can't take anything for granted in this process.

Good luck everyone!

You got a post interview rejection? I find that odd if not hard to believe...they are not supposed to release that info until Oct 16...if you really got this msg, I would call and ask about it.

Technically they can tell you about a rejection before oct. 16. They are just supposed to wait on acceptances until then.

Sorry to hear bro. Do you mind telling us how your interview went?

Hey guys, I'm an M1 here at VCU...I've seen a few of you interviewees lately and I just wanted to say good luck to all of you! Feel free to send me any of your questions, I'll do my best to respond!

They can send immediate rejections out post interview without waiting for October 16th. Sorry about that medslacker, that sucks.

the interview was pretty informal and conversational, the interviewer seemed to talk a lot and wasn't out to get me, everything went smoothly, there was lots of laughing, in hindsight I probably didnt give my interviewer enough to sell me to the rest of the adcom or I said something that really turned the interviewer off. My biggest weakness on my app is that im young (applying directly out of undergrad) and I lack prolonged work/shadowing experience.

Directly out of undergrad is young? This is news to me.

OOS M1 here! Just thought I'd comment on VCU. It is a fantastic school and I'm very pleased with my choice. The student body is great. The teachers are available and friendly. The opportunities are really widespread. I encourage all of you to look at the TOTAL package wherever you interview. "Rankings" are great, but what's that mean to YOU? Ultimately, it is about being happy where you come to learn. Consider the intangibles. MCV really has it all (sorry if my praise seems kind of glib). Let me know if you have any specific questions; I'll try to answer them in a timely fashion (probably not this weekend, though....Monday's a big exam).

This begs a question.

In this pre October 16 period, would they hold back on telling anybody they intend to cut? In other words, if at this point one has received the standard msg saying there are 3 possible outcomes (accept, reject, hold for alt list), would it be reasonable to assume that if you receive this msg that you have not been rejected but are either in the hold or accept pile?

That is a great question.

It can be. I was 20 when I graduated. If I get in this cycle, I'll be around average age (22).

Hmm..I guess US is different. In Canada if you are not in by end of undergrad, it is believed that you are "wasting" more and more time with every new endeavor (Master's etc).

In general, if you have received the message that your app is on hold post interview, it means you have not been rejected. They won't accept anyone on days other than the ones listed (Oct 16th, etc). After you receive the post interview hold message you're waiting for an acceptance at one of the posted dates. If you don't make it Oct 16 you still might get an acceptance at one of the next dates listed. The only other time that you could be rejected is March 16rh-sometimes they reject a few people to trim down the list before they form the waitlist.
Hopefully this sort of makes sense. I just woke up from sleeping 12 hours and I'm still a little out of it. 😴

I applied in my senior year of college, but didn't get in anywhere, so I took a full year off before reapplying to get some work experience and enough money to pay for the cycle again. There are a lot of schools (including my state school, Colorado) that love non-traditional students and tend to look less favorably on students right out of undergrad.

The Committee's file review indicates that they are very interested in your candidacy. There is another increase in the applicant pool this year, but we are trying to get all candidates at your priority score interviewed as soon as possible if we have an adequate number of interview slots. Please watch for an e-mail from us regarding a possible interview date.

has anyone got this message and how long did it take you to get an interview invite? I am assuming this is not an interview invite for sure right?

it translates to #1 status and based on ppl who had this in the past you'll get an interview soon!! congrats 🙂

So...I was complete on 8/10 and my status hasn't changed from "complete" since then.

Should I call and inquire about this?

I was complete on the same day as you and mine hasn't changed either. I emailed about a week ago to check on my status and they just said that its taking longer because of an increase of applications and that I was complete. Its kind of odd considering there are people who were complete way after I was and they got status updates pretty quickly. VCU also seems to reject people quickly if there not interested in you as well...so who knows

I was complete on 8/11 and just received my status change. I wouldnt worry about it too much

this is ridiculous I have been complete since 8/6 and have not heard nothing at all. no status change. When i emailed them awhile ago they said its waiting to be checked out again for final review, whatever that means. i'm guessing its rejection?

I've had that message since the 20th. Others on here are saying it takes about 3 weeks for the interview to come after getting that message.

any SDN'ers interviewing in Richmond this week?

I'm heading down a bit early the day before my interview (thanks to the amtrak schedule)... if anyone wants to meet up/kill some time in Richmond, PM me

:luck:

No, it means that they're waiting for someone to check out your file and give you a final status determination. It took a month and a half for me (and some others) to get a status update, and I was complete in July.

Interview invite from #3 status!!

Anyone interviewing December 7th?? I could have gotten October 15th but I have classes all day on Thursdays and someone snatched it before I could decide anyway. December 7th was the next earliest.

Are you a student host 😀

Is anybody else applying a graduate of the VCU Certificate program? Some of my classmates have already gotten interview invites and I'm eagerly awaiting mine... :luck:

For some reason, I cant see the new posts on this thread, I get the same page 21 every time and no new posts
