I just called admissions to check on my status bc i have had no change for quite sometime. They said that "ive been checked off final review" and i should get a status change within the next week or so...

I am guessing this may be an impending rejection?? thoughts? 🙁

When were you complete?

Are you a student host 😀

I'm not really sure if M1s are allowed to be student hosts, to be quite honest. I think it is for the M2s mainly. If we are allowed to be, I wasn't informed, because I was actually thinking of being one.

This is what happens to everyone. Rejections it seems come quite quick. So I wouldn't worry too much.

No, they told me the same thing. A week and a half later, I got the MAY status. Then 3 or so weeks later, I got an interview invite. Granted, I'm not interviewing til February, but still...

I have been complete for around a month and no change in status. Same 'complete' note. Is this a sign of them not being interested or normal time?

Yeah I am worried too, I've been complete since 8/14 and have not heard a thing... I am in-state, I was a business major at VT cgpa 3.4 sgpa 3.9 33M MCAT... I'm a little bit concerned.

You should be OK assuming the rest of your app is in good order (ECs, LORS). They are swamped with apps right now. You are competing with the instate crowd - approximately 700 or so of the instaters who apply to the 3 VA med schools. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I would guess that at least half of those applicants will get interviews, eventually.

Thanks for the responses! It made me feel a bit better. I have been complete since the end of august/beginning of september.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I am not alone. This is one of the first secondaries I got in. Not sure what is going on

Just got home from my interview. Thinking positive thoughts. VCU was refreshingly open about the admissions process, saying they will send out a first batch of acceptances on Oct. 15. It's nice to have some insight into an important date like that instead of just waiting endlessly like most other schools.👍

is anyone else having a nightmare with completing their application? my application was complete and put on hold until my scores came back september 15th. they've received them but have yet to complete my application. i've called admissions several times, and each time i've met with a difference answer and with no results

I called the admissions office like two weeks ago (after being complete for about a month) and they said I would be assigned a number within the next few weeks. I called again today (still no status change) and was informed that they are running behind so I should wait a few more weeks to be assigned a priority category. I love this process.

Yeah I guess we will just have to play the waiting game...... hopefully that doesnt completely screw us on all the interview slots, assuming we are granted interviews...

i wish i got the 'accepted' status already LOL

Has anyone else received this message?

The committee's file review indicates that they wish to consider your file over the next several weeks before making a decision about interview. Since they have some reservations about granting an interview, your file will be reviewed again by a small sub-committee before making a final decision. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken.

Hmmmm....

edit: NM, just looked at your older posts.

I have that same status that you refer to as the "#4 status"...what do you mean by that?

I just looked over previous posts and found out there are 5 numbers that are assigned to applicants:

#1 - we love you, you will be interviewed

#2 - you may be interviewe we have a ton of ppl but still love you

#3 - we will review your file further but you have a good shot at being interviewed

#4 - eh..i dont know, we will look at you again to decide if you should be rejected or not

#5 - peace out, rejected 🙁

For anybody who rescheduled, how was the experience? I put in my request yesterday, because I didn't realize my interview day was during Thanksgiving week so plane tickets were super expensive. I waited for them to drop, but they were still ridiculous - so I put in the request to change.

Haha, I love the layman's terms. Sooo much better than the actual statements.

Wow! This thread is pretty impressive in # of replies. I'm OOS and applied on a wing and a prayer (was verified late Sept./early Oct., will be complete as soon as they dl my letters) and got an email about a status change last week. I figured I'd get my first rejection of the season out of the way and somehow got screened in to a secondary. (My thoughts 'How the eff did that happen? Did they make a mistake or what?') I'm pumped about VCU. The odds still favor a painful rejection for me, but man, what a neat school that emphasizes the things in medicine I find important. Just wanted to drop my little story into the hat and good luck to everyone!

I was complete on 9/15, and I have not received a change in status-still says COMPLETE. So, I just called admissions and the lady told me that my file passed a review by the sub-committee a few days ago so now I am in line to be reviewed by the primary committee in a few days from now in order to be wait listed for interview. She didn't tell me a status number, which confused me since I've only heard about status 1-5. My situation doesn't really sound like it fits in with the 5 status updates that I've read about on here. Does anyone know what's up?

Oh yeah, stats are OOS, 33 MCAT and 3.7 GPA.

#3. Got lower stats than people who've been rejected, so I'm hoping they saw something they liked.

In reality though they're probably just toying with me...

actually they're probably not toying with you. Mcat and gpa are clearly not everything here because I got an October interview (miraculously!). I think they must read into everything you give them because they don't seem to rely solely on those 2 numbers.

I thought the process was "laid back." My interviewer was kind and informal, while asking me questions of substance (but not technical school information). Current events such as health care, end of life ethics questions, and other questions about my own decision to enter the medical profession were discussed casually.

It was a little disheartening when he went into "if you don't get in this year, be sure to ask what you can do to get in next year, and if you do that, you will surely get in." That kind of stung, but it may be part of his standard dialogue.

Still, I thought this post might give some an idea about the process. (Keep in mind there are several interviewers.)

'sub-committee' reference is #4 status.

Yes and no. Every applicant goes to a sub-committee to start the application process. This first sub-committee basically has two choices send to the whole committee or reject ( I say basically because I am not a memebr of VCU's ADCOM and they could have some other option I am unaware of). If they decided you are worthy of the whole committee then you are evaluated by the whole committee. The whole committtee then deterimines your status number 1-5. If you get 4 at this point you have been sent to a seperate sub-committee (that is to say different than the first one).

I incorrectly thought I had status number 4 early in the app process and was informed by the admissions staff how it works. I ended up with status 2.

Yep, they can be. From what I recall of people who decided to host last year, you can still sign up to host if you're interested.

My file is totally complete today (it was really complete yesterday, and yes, I know I'm way late) so here's to VCU and looking beyond the numbers. I don't know about you guys, but I got really excited when looking into the ICRP at VCU. Just my $0.02 today.

so I got this status today

"The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are unable to grant an interview you will be notified by e-mail in March."

have others had this and how successful were they with getting interviews?

(sorry if this has been answered before, I am at work and can't go through ten pages and need to know the answer)

My status just changed and I am now #4 status. What are my chances?

thats the #2 status. i had that 9/2 and got an interview on 9/22. its a good sign! :luck:

So, I thought this was kind of weird:
I was marked as complete on Sept. 22nd. However, this morning I received a new status update from VCU and when I checked it, the page said "We have received your supplemental application...once your application is completed we will forward it for review" like I had JUST submitted my secondary or something. Anyone else have this happen to them?

Happened to me. It fixed itself a few days later after like four status update emails.

i've had the "may" status from spetember 4th, yet no interview invite. what is going on?

Just interviewed today and I must say this place is amazing and the people are super nice. Everywhere you went people were wishing you luck. The doctors went out of their way to tell you that it's a great place. I believe it! 👍

For people that interviewed already or know the answer...what type of interview is it? one-on-one or panel? open or closed? I am sure it is somewhere on the website but I can't seem to find it for some reason...I interview there on Thurs!

Thanks!

its one on one and open file! good luck on your interview 🙂

Just received rejection notice today...

I wonder if being rejected this early in the process means anything...bad? Oh boy, the PS, bad letters of rec, secondary essays...there are so many places where my application could fall short :scared:.

does anyone know what the avg matriculant MCAT scores are for OOS students getting in to VCU?

just got my scores in
PS11
VR 8
BS 11
Overall 30R

I figure I need to retake cause of verbal, but are my ps and bs high enough as a oos applying for c/o 2015?

Thanks for the info. I will definitely look into that.

I'm not sure what the MCAT scores are for OOS, since the Admissions Office only posts the averages for the class. I'm assuming it may be a little higher than IS, but probably not by that much, I wouldn't think.

As for your scores, the PS and BS are most certainly high enough. The verbal may or may not hurt you. Your overall score is right at the accepted average, so I'd say you're probably good and won't merit a retake. Each year, the stats do progress upward ever so slightly. Can't really predict what 2015 will bring, but I'd say it'll be close to 30.something. If you apply (or applied) early, then you should have a decent chance assuming your GPA falls around the 3.6 area and you're well-rounded.
