One other question does anyone know whether VCU lets you get residency status and IS tuition after your first year, or are you stuck with OOS tuiton all four years?

It's possible to get residency status, but it's difficult. You have to prove, after living there for 12 months, that your primary reason for being there is something other than education. She said that most of these applications get denied. If they do get denied, you can appeal in person. So... if your family is from Virginia, you own a home, your spouse works there full time, your children go to school there, etc.. then maybe you can get residency? But if you're just going to school there, you cannot.

i had the same residency question and the current OOS students told me unless you work there for one or two years without going to school there is no way to change your residency so unfortunately if you are oos and only go there for med school you'll have to pay the pay the high tuition..

What if you get married to someone who has residency status?

just curious, anyone out there who was accepted on 10/16 have the #3 status going into the interview?

I never received a status - went straight from "Complete" to invited for interview, and then acceptance 15 days later.

It didn't work for one of my classmates but her husband was a student at the time. She lived here and worked here for 2 years without being enrolled in school and since her husband was a medical student during that time they wouldn't give her residency status when she applied for it. From what I've heard if they can find some reason, any reason, to not give you residency status then they wont give it to you.

hello everyone, I am wondering if someone who had the harsh interviewer would mind PMing me him/her initials. I had someone who really ensured I knew what I was talking about and asked about everyone of my activities. I was somewhat grilled, but it turned out okay I suppose, I was put on hold. If someone would mind, I would like to know if we had the same interviewer.

Thanks!

Just got this status update a few minutes ago:

The Committee's file review indicates that they are very interested in your candidacy. There is another increase in the applicant pool this year, but we are trying to get all candidates at your priority score interviewed as soon as possible if we have an adequate number of interview slots. Please watch for an e-mail from us regarding a possible interview date.

What do you guys think?

this is great, you are very likely to get an interview.. if you refer to above posts this is the #1 status thats on top of the list for getting interviews.. that being said im sure there are some people who are still waiting.. good luck 🙂

Just got my hold message after interview on 11/17. Happy to have not gotten any bad news today. Now I can stop dreading getting the status update email with a rejection. Dec. 15th can't come quick enough!

Wanted to pass it along for others who may have also interviewed that week.

From what I can tell from reading posts here, it probably does not mean anything. It seems that they don't always update the hold status with great regularity, and there have been people who have gotten a hold message the day before they were accepted. As long as you don't get an update that says your rejected, which they seem to send out pretty soon after the interview, you're still in the running.

to get accepted do you have to first be put on hold post interview.. i havent gotten any rejection letter yet and i interviewed the same week as you.. you think they havent gotten to my file yet?

Well, today was the day for review.

I received the email about a status update but only had the survey. I guess at that point we just wait now.

i interviewed 11/ 16 a week before you and didnt get any hold update .. does that mean i will be rejected soon?.. has anyone gotten accepted without getting the post interview hold...

If you haven't gotten the hold it could mean that your interviewer wasn't there to present you at the committee meeting. I think they would send out the rejection the same time they send out the hold. I wouldn't worry about it.

Application Status This is to acknowledge your recent communication advising us of your wish to withdraw your application for admission to the School of Medicine.

If you sent your matriculation fee of $100.00, this money will be refunded (until May 15) and you may expect to receive a credit to your credit card or a check from the State Treasurers' office within the next six (6) to eight (8) weeks.

May we wish you every success with your plans for the future.

do you have to be put on hold post interview to get an acceptances?

Once you interview, if you are rejected, you will be notified right away after they have reviewed your file. If you are not rejected then you are placed on their hold list (not a waitlist yet, a hold list) where everyone is organized by their rank. When one of the four dates (now three since it's after Oct. 16) arrives the top 40-50 or so get accepted. You cannot be accepted outside these dates. I believe it's Oct. 16, Dec. 15, Feb. 1 and Mar. 15.

Therefore, rejection = rejection, hold = hold until possible acceptance at one of the aforementioned dates or waitlist if not accepted by Mar. 15. But you can also be rejected anywhere in between but if you're on hold you probably will not be rejected unless it's around Mar. 15 when they formulate the waitlist. Even then, not many get rejected. So if you're on hold, cross your fingers, wait for those dates and good luck!

my friend was put on hold who interviewed the same day as me with the same interviewee.... does that mean that i will prob get a rejection soon.. since i never got a hold and she did...and we did interview with the same person so the case of the interviwee not being there to present me cant be the case..

No clue. You could always call or just wait to see what happens. I don't necessarily think it means you're rejected. Good Luck.

Hey guys, I've been going back and trying to find out what "priority" or whatever this status update is (pre-interview):

The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken.

I've got a bad feeling, especially considering that it's pretty much December now. I think my secondary was complete here late October. Anybody have an idea if I still have a shot at an interview?

Hmm it sounds like the "further" status (which was pretty good back a few months ago) but your version has a lot more unfortunately negative words.

VCU has been rejecting people pre-secondary so I suppose its good news that you at least made it past that cut.

Are there many applicants who get the post interview hold and not get accepted at the upcoming acceptance date? ie stay on the hold list.
For example, for the October 16th acceptance date, were there lots of applicants who got a post interview hold prior and not get in at that time?
Any ideas from this year or previous years?
Thanks.

To all who will be attending VCU (and any others in the know), what money is available for students other than the government loans? I realize we can get subsidized and unsubsidized loans through Stafford, as well as more loans through a private lender, but I'm wondering about grants and scholarships that are provided by the school itself. Does anyone know how this works with regard to VCU?

Thanks. 🙂

Yes. I was on hold for like 2 weeks before Oct. 16th and didn't get accepted. =[

I received this status update in Sept. sometime and was invited for an interview about 3 weeks later. Good Luck!

To answer a few of the recent questions: I did not receive a "hold" status update until about a week before the last acceptance date, and I was accepted on October 15th so try to be patient. At this point, the longer you go post-interview with no news, the better. Secondly, I believe that VCU accepts about 1/4 of their class every acceptance date so there are certainly a fair amount of people that get put on hold, but do not get an acceptance. I hope this helps, and I am really, really excited to see who will be joining me at VCU when the next round of acceptances go out in a few weeks. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!:luck:🙂

Finally received my rejection from VCU. Not a surprise, since my interveiwer pretty much told me that himself at the interview last month.
A bit of a bummer though, since now I will definitely have to uproot my family from Richmond.
Ah well.......I have other places I can go, so at least I know I won't be re-applying next year. Hooray!
Best of luck to everyone still waiting to hear.

sorry to hear that.but congrats on the other acceptances... when did you interview?

I Interviewed around the 20th of September, so it was a solid 3 weeks before I heard anything. I hope everything works out for you. Just rest assured that the longer that you avoid the worst case scenario, the better.

I interviewed on Sept 22. Maybe I saw you. =)

Is anyone here interviewing on Dec 14th? I am able to reserve a double suite room at the Park Suites just 1/3 a mile from Sanger Hall, on the night of the 13th. Total is about $112 so $56 per person. Send me a PM if interested!

11 more days. :scared:

Sweet - I'm ready. I am wondering if you have to be officially on hold to get accepted... I wouldn't think so, right? Because if not you'd be rejected.

I still haven't received the hold message or rejection yet, and they reviewed last week. Maybe my interviewer wasn't there and I'll find out this Monday.

I think the number is half of students get some sort of scholarship during their 4 years. A lot of this is merit based as well as service based (ie those people who make a difference in the community). I know people who have almost a full ride and I know others who have no scholarships.

In terms of the question about being on hold and getting pushed along:
Hypothetically you could have interviewed in August, and be strung along until you are put on teh waitlist in March. This happened in years past to kids applying to MCV (VCU) and it is one of the few frustrating things that MCV does.

So if you dont get in this december, you will again be up for consideration in Feb and again in March. This is all dependent on your score. For instance if you were given a score of 1.8 and they accept 1.7 in December you would get pushed until Feb. If in feb they accept only a 1.7 you would keep getting pushed back until March. If in march they accept a 1.75 you would get waitlisted.

Know that MCV has a very brisk waitlist compared to other schools so even if you are waitlisted you have a very good chance of getting in.
