Hi everyone. I am so confused. I interviewed on Nov 14th and I don't remember getting any survey in the mail or anything that tells me I am status 1-4. I have called and I have been told that my status is Interview completed and the committee has not made a decision yet. What does that mean. Have they just not looked at my stuff and they are being nice, what? Has anyone else that interviewed on Nov 4th or any later date heard anything? I am so anxious, it hurts. 😕😕😕:scared::scared:😕😕😕

thanks

haha ya know it! i couldnt help but notice that you put vcu as a school your waitlisted in... although i agree thats probably true if your in my posiiton, but I just refuse to accept it! GL :luck:

Any hotel liked better then others for people who have already interviewed? Cheap and airport/school accessible preferred hah. I know I'm needy.

Ok, just checking here, you did apply to medical school right? The survey and the status update occur on the web portal where you signed up for you interview. If you didn't get a notification that your application has be reviewed and put on hold by the end of today, i.e. 6:10ish ET, give the office a call tomorrow as your application may have been misplaced.

so basically....i got nothin'. maybe they'll send out some updates tomorrow? anyone hear anything today?

I didn't get a survey in the mail; the survey was on how you liked the overall interview experience at VCU and was posted on your status update page online. I was told that the committee would meet today to discuss more applications, so you should hear something pretty soon. Good luck!

So it seems rejection emails come relatively quickly post-interview. I have no status update since my interview on December 1st. So should I expect a hold status update soon? Were there past instances where rejections were sent a month after the interviews?

Weird; they handed out their last round of acceptance letters on Dec. 15, and the committee met today so...you should probably hear something this week, I'm guessing.

I haven't even had my interview yet - and I haven't heard back AT ALL from VCU, the Honors program or the BS/MD program - am i screwed ?????:scared:😕😱

is this the medical school app. thread - sry about that.
Anyways, does any1 know about the BS/MD program?

Undergrad and Medical School admissions timelines run completely differently. This is the med school thread; most of us (if not all of us) are just applying to the MD program here. From what I understand, you are not competing with us; they set aside spots for the BS/MD program separately, so you are competing with other applicants to the BS/MD program, ironically of which, I happen to know two LOL. Anyway, you're fine; don't worry😛

Anyone interview during the week of December 15th get a survey or status update yet? I have not received any updates or even the survey and am starting to get worried.

I interviewed the week of Dec. 15. Got the survey status the night after my interview, but no other updates since!

heck yeah! not rejected!

i had to call them to find out though, so if you're waiting on an e-mail, they may not be sending those out till later. :xf: here's to hoping that feb 1 brings more good news!!

you called them to find out about your status? and they told you that they won't be sending out status emails? Maybe I should call as well, just to find out if I am on hold or rejected.

they didn't expressly say that they wouldn't send out e-mails, but the woman I spoke with said that the next status change I will get is if and when I am accepted/waitlisted/rejected. so i thought that implied that there wouldn't be a new e-mail coming out for those who are being put on hold. they had a decision made for me already this afternoon, but my online status is still the interview page.

Then how did you know that you are not rejected?

Never mind, I see your point, thanks. So If what she is saying or you are implying is true, that means I interviewed about half a month before you did most likely have a decision already made for me. So no status means either accept or waitlist?

Unless your interviewer has been out of town for a while, you would get rejected fairly quickly (within 2 weeks) if you were to get rejected.

Thanks, I sure hope so, but my interviewer did mention that he will bring my application to the committee for a vote the following Monday after the interview, barring the unexpected.

If only not rejected = accepted, then i'd be the happiest sonofagun ever 🙄

Good luck, everybody waiting for Feb 1st! :luck:

And just remember, even if you don't get a hold, you can still get accepted! I never got an official hold status.

Basically, yeah. If you're being put on hold for possible future acceptance (like they told me--they specifically told me I wasn't rejected), you may not see any online status change (my online status is still the interview page). They will update it when they've come to your final decision: accepted or wait-listed. (if you are not rejected, post-interview, and are instead put on hold, you're either going to be accepted or wait-listed; I checked.)

Anybody here that interviewed really early (think September to early October) who's just sitting on a hold? My file was complete on 10/01/09 and October 15 and December 15...obviously came and went.

Yes...I interviewed in mid-September.

quick question.. has anyone who have been accepted gotten an EID or email or orientation information yet?

Hey Guys,
I was wondering if any of you have some advice or suggestions for me. I applied last year to VCU, got and interview and was waitlisted (needless to say I did not get in off the waitlist) so I am currently in a graduate program and have applied again. They put me on some status of wanting to consider me further but they don't have enough interview spots.

Would it help me at all by writing or calling and stating to them that if granted an interview and accepted, I will for sure go to VCU above all other schools? Or is there anything else that I can do that may be helpful? Thanks!

Okay so, despite what I was told over the phone, I did end up getting an e-mail to notify me on my hold status (which was put on my update page too), saying that I was on hold. It specifically read:

"The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for action at a later date. We anticipate making offers October 16, December 15, February 1, and March 16.

You will receive no further communication from us concerning your hold status. The next status change will be to offer you a position in the class, to notify you that you have been placed on the alternate list in late-March, or to notify you that the Committee will no longer be considering your file.

We thank you for your interest in our school."

Now, what I'm wondering is, is it just my imagination, or does this sound a bit ominous to any of you guys? Is this what they tell everyone, or are there multiple different post-interview hold messages? Anyone have any experience with this message?

That's the standard post-interview hold message. It's the only one.

the post-interview hold is the same for everyone! unless someone got a diff msg?!

Does anyone know where I can find a schedule for next school year that includes exam dates (or approximate dates)?

I was on the VCU site and their was a schedule link, but I believe it was for the undergrads. Does anyone know if that schedule applies to the med school too?🙂

I'm not sure if it's posted online anywhere yet but it's definitely not the same as the undergrad testing schedule. M1 exams are typically every 2-3 weeks.

Maybe, the lady on the phone thought that you had received your hold status, so she told you what I thought is a summary of your hold status message. Otherwise, she thought that it would be better to send you the "hold" status so that you wouldn't be as worried anymore. If it were the former, I will be worried since my message is still the interview page even though I interviewed almost one and a half month ago.

It wouldn't hurt, but I doubt that it would do you any good, since your priority score is already assigned to you. If I were you, I will send an update letter and to reiterate my interest to become a student there. btw, I saw your md profile and we have so much in common. We have the same numeric MCAT scores (lower writing score on my part), same/similar ethnic background. I initially got a further message as well, so don't give up.
This process is random, I was offered an interview from my top choice last cycle with higher stats (higher GPA, higher MCAT writing) and did not get accepted; however, I applied again with not much new experience and still was offered an interview. So don't lose hope.

The bizarre thing is, whether they want to wait-list you or accept you, they STILL give you the same exact hold status. And if they reviewed you and decided that you didn't cut it, as metallica said, they would have just cut you loose by now. Not sure what gives there.

loll im not counting anymore :luck:

Haha if you can actually not ever count (even if in your head every now and then or when you see a calender around) then you are a better man than I am! I've actually cooled off a bit but with the start of every week I realize its 1 week down so I post it here now rather than just think it to myself. It helps me forget and makes me feel like I'm making progress towards the next date or more likely towards the WL update! 😛

(ugh, we're still 3 weeks away...and possibly more...the anticipation is killing me!)

sorry guys, I'm not neurotic about *everything* but I'm the type of person that goes online and tracks their packages in the mail multiple times a day until they arrive. this is like second nature to me!

My brother is at VCU Med school and received this letter from Dean. Just for information

I hope that each of you was able to enjoy some time off with your family and friends over the holiday break. As the New Year gets off to a start, I would like to update you on some important events happening on the School of Medicine Campus.

First, I would like to congratulate the Class of 2013 for getting off to a fantastic start over the past semester. Here are some interesting statistics concerning the composition of our current M1 class:
· The average age of our entering class is 24.2 years old
· 47% of the students are female
· 56% of the students are residents of the state of Virginia
· 20 states are represented by the out-of-state students
· 27 of our entering students have advanced degrees ranging from Masters of Public Health to Doctoral degrees
· The average MCAT score is 29 and the average science GPA is 3.62.
Feedback from faculty consistently notes that the members of this class are eager to engage in discussion to help create an active learning environment benefiting everyone’s educational experience.
We have received all of the Step 1 scores for the School of Medicine Class of 2011. It was another banner year! Ninety-six per cent of the class passed Step 1 on the first administration of the exam, which significantly exceeds the national pass rate, with an average score of 223.3. Some additional statistics include:
· Eighteen students (10% of the class) scored in the 250s and 260s
· 25% of the class scored at or above 240
· 41% of the class scored above 230
We are extremely proud of the Class of 2011 for their diligent preparation and their exceptional results – all of which reflect positively on the School of Medicine.
The Admissions office has received over 6300 applications so far this year, already well on track to exceed the record breaking number of applications we received last year. The first interviews were held August 31, and offers for admission have been made to applicants mid-October and again mid-December. The continued strength in the number of applications is a testimony to the superior medical education we offer our students, even if it creates quite a workload for our dedicated admissions committee members.
