Oh, man .... really?! I'm excited, but my heart rate just jumped when I read this. No joke. It felt like the moment before you have to step on stage ... this medical school admissions process is quite bizarre.

Good Luck everyone! dont stress too much the waitlists have just began to move there is probably more to come.. :xf::luck:

:scared::scared::scared::scared:
:xf::xf::xf::xf::xf:
Anyone as frantic as I am?

Yes, but perhaps to a fault? We all know that not getting in at 6pm today does not exclude us from being chosen from the wait list - I've heard stories of people being accepted in August haha ...

Still ... let's see what happens!

Looking back through old e-mails from VCU's automated system, one e-mail came at 6:07pm, while two others each came at 7:05pm (Eastern Time) ... so maybe there's still hope for today ...

My first acceptance!! Goodluck to you all and I can't wait to meet my classmates!

For those of you accepted today, would you mind posting your stats (GPA, MCAT, IS versus OOS, gender, race, age, anything else you think is relevant)?

For someone with stats pretty well above the average of last year's entering class, as well as some excellent ECs, I'm just wondering exactly how quickly VCU is approaching its previous averages. I think we all understand that it varies, but the MSAR figures have been relatively consistent for the past few years.

Thank you.

BTW, If you were a competitive applicant, congratulations on your acceptance.

Accepted! Will withdraw because of a cheaper option unless they miraculously offer me a huge scholarship.

Hi all,

Just got accepted today. OOS 3.85/31. And I have a dilemma I was hoping some people could offer feedback....

I've been accepted to my state school, which as far as in-state schools go it is QUITE expensive with very little financial aid offered through the school. Although it the other school ranks superior to VCU in almost every category, I had a great visit and really like the Richmond area/east coast in general.

Does anyone have any advice in making a final decision, the cost difference will only be about $8000 per year total. Thanks for your help and best of luck to those still waiting to hear.

If you're equally divided between the both, why not go to the superior ranked one while saving $32,000 over the next 4 years?

I had to make this same decision last week, and I went with the more expensive option. Honestly, 8k/year isn't that big of a difference, and I don't think that amount should keep someone from going to somewhere that's a better fit. After 4 years, the difference is 32k, and I've calculated that by the time you're able to make repayments, that 32k will be about 60k. Go where you'd be more comfortable. If money is more important to you, go to your state school since it's a great school. If you want new experiences and never have to wonder what-if-..., that 8k isn't that bad! Good luck with your decision!

Congrats to all who got accepted! I must admit that my hopes and good feelings towards this school are quickly getting shattered.

i feel you. almost just want to give up all hope in order to keep my sanity and not get let down by false hopes.

don't give up just yet. i was feeling the same way until today, and the waitlist moves pretty well until mid-June.

hang in there dadocca, its only the beginning:luck:

Hey OneMCATAway, good to see you still posting here! Thanks but I feel like the beginning for me was when the December notifications went out and by this point it's just pathetic when I keep expecting to get that email at 6pm est. So I will keep saying that I'm over it but I know that honestly I will jump at the chance to attend and any bad feelings will very quickly disappear!

To everyone who agreed with me, I'm glad to see that I'm in good company! Good luck to all of us :xf:

hey guys...are there any campus housing for this med school? i think i remember the answer is no...but just to be sure. cuz i'm out of state and not sure where to live :( if any in-states could help out too, that'd be great!

I'm 98% sure that Cabaniss Hall has housing available for graduate students. It is very close to where we will be having our lectures, but I don't think there are many medical students at all who choose to live there. This is probably because Cabaniss also houses undergrads.

Hi all, was accepted off the waitlist yesterday! I was also accepted off my instate school's waitlist (Louisville) a few days ago however, and they're offering to cover a third of my tuition...I really like VCU and have a lot of reasons I'd like to be in Virginia (I went to college there), but it might come down to money. What are people's thoughts on this, if you don't mind answering? Is it worth it to go out of state, or do you think the experience is generally the same?

After so much waiting and no acceptances, getting two within two days is amazingly hard to comprehend. Best of luck to those still waiting, I'm pulling for you! And for any OOSers still waiting, I'm probably going to drop my spot at VCU :( I really wanted it, but it's so hard to turn down having less debt..my boyfriend will understand I hope :( I'm halfway around the world at the moment though so internet/decision making is hard to do here, but I'll try to do it really soon because I know how waiting feels..

Sorry but thats wrong. Cabaniss hall is primarily for undergraduate transfer students and late first year Monroe applicants who applied for housing late. (That was me my first year)

The MCV low rises are for graduate students.

Hope that helps.

Hey, I was actually in the same position but with VCU being my state school and Louisville offering full tuition. I'd rather be in VA but after going to VCU second look I decided it wasnt worth the debt so I'm going to Louisville. Hope to see you there.

So, dr whc responded saying: this year's IS list is moving very slow and last year it stopped mid June. :(
Glimpse of hope? I dont know:xf:

I can't seem to find this information anywhere. The white coat ceremony is on Aug 13th, but when is the first day of instruction?

If I needed to move into Richmond from California, how soon will I need to be there?

Do any of you even know if MS1's usually live on-campus or off-campus? So lost...

Orientation Week starts on Aug 9th and runs til the 13th with the White Coat Ceremony. Class will start on Aug 16th. Arrive in Richmond whenever as long as you're present the first day of orientation (I hear they drop you if you're not there when they call roll). I'm also coming all the way from California and will probably arrive in Richmond on Aug 5th, giving me a few days for moving in.

I think majority of M1's live off-campus. The only on-campus housing is the MCV Low Rises. I lived on-campus when I was in their graduate Certificate program and I thought the living accommodations were mediocre. Unless if you want to live super close (~5 minute walk to Sanger Hall/Egyptian Building), I'd go with off-campus. There's a lot of great apartment buildings in Shockoe.
