If I remember correctly, we're given a score out of 5 or something aren't we? Does anyone remember how the rank works? We're not numbered in order right? I think they try to find a replacement with a high score that fits the profile that withdrew?

If I remember currectly when someone drops the person on top of the list (highest ranking among the waitlisters) gets their spot. This can change a little bit for the people on top of the list and the dean can make that decision. Don't read so much into it just keep hope alive and if VCU is your top choice make sure to call/email showing interest 🙂

Good Luck everyone :xf::luck:

The score that you're referring for 5's and such only apply to getting an interview. If I remember correctly, the email that VCU sent out awhile go mentioned that there is no ranking for the wait list, but I'm sure that some kind of system exists. For sure, you should continue calling or emailing them to reiterate your interest in the school. Sometimes I relate it to serenading the school. How else are they supposed to know that you're interested if you don't remind them?

The priority score (out of 5) is given post-interview, and the lower the score, the better. If you get above a 3.5, you are automatically rejected. They use the priority score to rank the waitlist. So let's say the lowest score on the waitlist is 2.3. After that person gets pulled off the waitlist, the person with the next lowest score gets pulled off and so on.

This is how I understand the process to work from the information given by InstateWaiter (sp? sorry...I forgot your exact username).

Calling the admissions office or Dr. WHC?

When people call, do you just say something like a letter..."I just wanted to let you know of my continued interest..." type of deal, I feel like that'd be a little weird...I want this school really badly and I'm just not sure how to express my interest without looking strange

So here is my question. Last year I looked at VCU and really wanted to apply but was not able to because I have not taken two college math classes. I took one, calculus, and tested out of pre-calc but do not have credit for it. Does anyone know how strict they are on this requirement? Also, do you have to complete the classes before applying here? Will they even review your application if you dont have two college maths? I have tried to contact admissions with no luck.
Thanks yall!

Withdrew a few days ago (accepted off the waitlist OOS). Good luck everyone.

In regards to the math question I only had a semester of math in college- I did test out of calculus as well. So maybe they aren't that strict?

by this point in time, are chances of getting off the waitlist rather slim? and also who do we talk to about interim year activities which may help reapplicants look more favorable?

most schools accept AP credits for their requirements. if you are worried, you can email the admissions dept. and ask, they usually respond very quickly.

Just withdrew my acceptance (OOS). Good luck to those still waiting, and don't give up hope.

Thanks to all who drop their acceptance (especially oos people, hehe)! Anyone know when the next batch goes out? I am trying to hold on to some hope :xf:

Right there waith ya dadocca! ..sigh.

So, do they send acceptance offers in batches? Or just as people drop...?

I'm hanging onto hope with you guys too! Has anyone heard from the dean regarding their position on the waitlist?

so far it's always been in batches. i think they are waiting 2 weeks or so after the 5/19 notifications to see how many of those people (as well as others that are accepted from earlier days) drop before sending the next batch.

it would be REALLY nice of them to send acceptances out on the Friday evening before a long weekend.... 🙄

😍

i find myself increasingly obsessseddddd over this waitlist... driving people around me crazy :boom:

same here, my friends refuse to talk to me, bc this is all i talk about 🙁

Just got accepted off the waitlist (OOS)!! However, I'm pretty sure I will be withdrawing. Hope one of you gets this OOS spot!

got the status notification email today with my first MD acceptance! 🙂 i LOVED VCU and plan to attend.

i interviewed back in november and have been waiting since then.

OOS, nontraditional, female, GPA <3.5, MCAT <30

edit/i wanted to add that i didn't contact VCU at all. i was afraid to hear what my place on the waitlist was and didn't send in updated transcripts or letters of intent or anything. i honestly didn't expect anything from VCU.

Oh okay, thank you for the info because I was wondering about that.

Good luck once again to all those still waiting..... . . .. . . . .

I am very eager to be accepted by VCU. I very much like their school, the vibe of the administration and students, and their clinical years program at INOVA Fairfax hospital. I do not want to go through a re-application cycle ...

One of the doctors who I work with is an MCV alum (fresh out of residency) and said that VCU has a scholarship for the last student accepted into each class that was set up by an orthopedist who was the last accepted into a class many years ago.

Even though it would suck to be accepted last out of everyone, a scholarship would be pretty sweet. I'm wondering if this is still true?

To all of IS people lets hope that the list will continue moving until August :xf:even though it sounds as if this year the IS is moving much slower!

i think i remember them saying it is a full scholarship for the last person... or full tuition atleast...
don't quote me on this though

I am currently on the waitlist as many of you all are..I was wondering how that adversely affects your chances of getting loans? Since we will be filling our loan applications so late, is there a chance that we are denied? Or not allowed to receive them due to limited funding? I've been wondering about this, and if anyone could help clarify this, that'd be great. Thanks.

she didn't tell me specifically, when i asked. she said i was close, but it all depended on how many more people withdrew. wasn't all too informative.

You were supposed to submit your financial aid by the April 30 deadline I believe. You can still do it now. The federal government loans (e.g. Stafford) shouldn't really affect you though since they're given by the federal government but through the university. I'm not sure how the other loans are affected by this though.

just wondering if anyone knows when the next acceptances go out? they won't tell me over the phone but it seems like some people (maybe who are around) sometimes know the day... i just can't believe it's june already!

It seems the OOS acceptances has been sporadic, whereas from the few IS posts it seems like certain dates. Keeping hope alive:xf:

Hey guys, I have a few questions. First I'm an out of state student.

1) I will be living outside... if I rent a house, as opposed to buying a
house, will I become a Virginian resident after a year or two?

2) If I become a Virginian resident, will I be able to apply for in-state
tuition?

Thank you for your time!

I don't believe that owning versus buying has any effect on your ability to gain Virginia residency. I am not certain of that, though.

You will not be able to apply for in-state tuition if you come to Virginia for school. You'll pay out of state tuition for all 4 years. Even married people who have a spouse working here have been unable to get in-state tuition.

i just found this site... is that for undergrads only?
http://www.enrollment.vcu.edu/rar/docs/app_for_domic.pdf

seems a bit weird u can't apply for instate after a year or two, even if u decided to settle there...

Anyone resubmitting AMCAS today? I just dusted off my ol' MCAT review books 🙁

Noalias, best of luck to you. I've just about given up as well...this app. process has got to be the most treacherous endeavor one can take on.

Have you guys tried emailing to find out where you are on the waitlist?

I have danced around the subject with Dr. WHC, through asking for advice about reapplication. She seemed pretty firm about sending in my application this month and retaking the MCAT sooner than later. That lends me to believe that I'm on the side of the waitlist that's unlikely to get pulled (esp considering I'm IS).

I wish I could infer a little bit more from not sure if we will get to you response that I got. 🙁

I probably will too at some point this week! We have to keep on trying!!! If being a doctor is what you really want you have to try harder, cant give up! I am trying to motivate myself and you with this comment and all the other people waiting on the waitlist. Good luck to all of us guys!

Thanks for the support everyone. My application is just about ready to be sent. I figure, it can't hurt to send in a reapplication to the schools you really care about, especially the ones you're WL-ed at. The only trouble now is trying to figure out when to do a retake. Ideally, I'd retake in mid-July, but I have a 2 week trip during that time that will almost surely keep me too busy from studying.

I'm contemplating studying hard up until the first week in July, retaking on the first day it's offered, then leaving for my trip and hoping for the best. Otherwise, it's take a 2 week break in July, and wait until August. Guess I should get off SDN and start get back to the books 🙄

guys its only June! don't give up hope yet, we got 2 months till August, a lot can happen in that time. I'm try to keep it posi! But reapplying isnt a bad idea, backups never hurt

I am retaking it at the end of July, trying to study until then!....but obviously keeping hopes high for the waitlist :xf:
