Hmm so I just checked the website and under LORs it says this was received: Letters of Recommendation (Non-Science), even though it was a committee that sent a packet of letters to them. Has anyone else had a similar issue and did it fix itself to say that you have a committee letter and that you're complete?

Mine says "Committee Packete - INSTITIUTION: (My School)", so I'm not sure if yours is right.

Still in the game so far for me 🙂
 
when do they normally send out interview invites? would having some connection to VA help much? just wondering since I have relatives in VA.

Ok, call me stupid, but is this good, bad, or mediocre? I'm kinda confused and brain-fried right now to comprehend this.

"The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken. "

I got the same status update. I'd say it's better than not wanting to consider our file further.. Just wait and see.. :corny:

I think that's great. It shows that they are interested in you and want to give you an interview but not right now.

is this through email? did you guys get anything else after you submitted? my status is complete but i didnt get any emails from them just checking the status page..
 
guys, read the thread from last year.
there are 3 types of update messages.

one says they are "very interested"

one says someting like "unfortunately"

i forgot the other one. someone should look at it and clarify.
anyway, the one you got isn't the best message, but i wouldn't freak out about it.

it's good to see that they're already looking at applications. i want to hear from vcu soon.

Apparently the idea is that the Adcom assigns each candidate a priority, and then based on your priority your status is updated.

1. How does the ADCOM determine your priority score?

Your file is projected onto a screen and people start tearing you down based on weaknesses. Your file reviewer (one who initially read your file) and interviewer are your advocates and push for you to get in. They field questions and there is a discussion about you. Each member on the adcom gives you a score from 1-5. The highest and lowest score are thrown out and the rest are averaged. This is your priority score. 1 is the best basically the ideal candidate and 5 is the worst. Anything above a 3.5 is an automatic rejection. - Instatewaiter

Cliff's Notes on potential responses (eliciting increasing levels of glee?).

1) The committee's file review indicates that they wish to consider your file over the next several weeks before making a decision about interview. Since they have some reservations about granting an interview, your file will be reviewed again by a small sub-committee before making a final decision. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken.

2) The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to grant an interview you will be notified by e-mail.

3) The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken.

OK, so after browsing last year's thread, it seems there are 5 stati.
1. very interested
2. may be able to grant interview
3. would like to further review your file
4. reservations about granting interview/ goes to sub-committee
5. rejected
This is all based on my info from reading last year's thread, so don't shoot the messenger.

I submitted my secondary over a week ago (7/17) and my committee letter was uploaded to AMCAS on 7/21. Has anyone else been incomplete, waiting for letters to be downloaded? I hear that the school has to actively download the letters from AMCAS in order to receive them, but I wasn't sure how frequently they do that. Maybe only once a week?

My committee letter was uploaded on 7/17 and I submitted the secondary 7/13 and I'm not complete yet...I think some schools just take longer than others.

My letters were submitted 7/13, and I only got a "complete" yesterday...
 
I think I'm going to stop looking into my status any further because everything besides rejected and very interetsted is just so ambiguous.
So I guess this is a pre-interview hold?

WOW, am i wrong or is vcu one of the only schools to give this much insight to students? 👍

downside: overanalyzing :laugh:

thanks for posting this. I got number 4 today 🙁...very depressing to know my app sucks that bad ahah...

When were you complete at VCU Elijah?
 
Where are you guys seeing this status message? I got an email saying to check my status, but all mine says is "complete." When I click "home" all I get is this message "Your M.D. file is now complete. The Admissions Committee will now do a comprehensive review of your application. Once the review is complete, your file will be prioritized, and interviews will be granted based on your priority score and the date your file was completed."
 
hey everybody. i am filling out VCU secondary and one of the prompts says "Please briefly explain any lapses in your undergraduate education" what does lapses mean? Time taken off from school during your undergraduate years or does it mean your bad grades?? does anyone know? thanks.

It means time taken off. I would only fill it in if you took longer than 4 years to graduate.

I get the same email and status as you. My theory is that when they notify one person about their updated status, they notify the whole pool of applicants even if there's no change.

lapse can be anything that you think needs some explaining. this was addressed i think in last year's thread.

haven't received any word from them lately

Naw the update to "File Complete" counts as an update too. They will complete you on the status screen, then give you the long message. Same thing happened to me.
 
Ahhh... they have emailed me like 4 times now to check my status and every time it just says complete, not any of the 4 above messages. wth

So is this question about the 3rd and 4th years a preference question. I would rather do my 3rd and 4th years at Fairfax, but I would not be against doing them at MCV. If I put Fairfax only, is that going to hurt my app because there are limited spots there and they'd rather take someone who seems more flexible? If that's the case, should I just put both campuses? ...Very confused by the wording.

fyi: i got an email around 6pm tonight letting me know my status changed... I was complete on friday (i think).

Congrats! Though this is making me feel more neurotic, as I still haven't gotten any updates and I've been complete for 10 days. Deep breaths.
 
I submitted my secondary but I can't find the in-state residency form for VCU. It's not appearing on the forms section on the applicant website and I searched VCU's website with no luck. Can anybody post a link or tell me where I can find it? Thanks
