Woohoo, finally complete and in review according to the website. I submitted the secondary mid-August.

I attended an interview at Yale on Weds, and I loved it. Loved it loved it loved it. The students are friendly, smart, focused, and normal. I was interviewed by a 4th year student who was very sharp and a faculty member who was very kind.

And Yale is AMAZING! OK I had to let that out. I have enjoyed every interview this season, but Yale was just in a league of its own. The admissions director was charming and funny, yet informative. I guess depending on the year 240 get an acceptance (many from the waitlist) to fill a class of 100. One year it was in the 270's.

The campus was tidy and beautiful and green. There were street vendors on campus sending succulent aromas everywhere. There is a free bus system for everyone. The library has like a million medical classics and you get chills when you walk into it thinking of all the greats to study there through the years. Every student I saw said "hi" and seemed very at peace.

Forgive the long entry, but I just LOVED Yale. It was above and beyond my hopes.

More than Columbia?

I actually haven't been to Columbia yet. I just put all the schools that I got interviews at under "attended interview" for simplicities sake.

But out of Penn, Yale, Vermont, Wake Forest, UVA, and OSU, Yale was my favorite.

I hear you. Out of the places I've been to (and even those I have yet to go to) I'm already declaring Yale my top choice. Its only competition is probably harvard. Seriously though, I totally feel you guys on how great yale is. I felt the same way when I interviewed and still do. March is such a long way!

Yes, it was one of the few versions of this essay that actually granted you enough characters to answer the question!

i sent one they responded really fast, like the next day. that's how i got my interview

They sent an email acknowledging that they had received my request then the next day they sent the request.

I spoke to the dean of admissions on the phone yesterday about some extenuating circumstances and how they might affect my performance in school this semester. He was very supportive and said that my GPA was the least of my worries right now. I was partly surprised with how understanding he (and Yale in general) is. I was partly not surprised, though, because of having had such a favorable experience while interviewing.

Yale seems to be real. They seem to understand humanity and the foibles of having a family in college. No wonder students there are happy--Yale gets it.

Even if I am not offered a position, I will maintain my deep respect for Yale and her philosophies. I will probably encourage my friends to apply there, and who knows, maybe my future kids could go there.🙂

I'm partly not surprised because you have a ridiculously high GPA.

Hey anyone know how Yale admissions work? What's the deal here, it took them over a month just to mark me as complete (after everything was received).

I am hoping to catch the 4:10 CT Limo (I think it's the last one) to the airport, but I'm afraid I'll miss it if I end up being done at 5.
and if you didn't take the shuttle, what mode of transportation did you use, i.e. taxi or a different shuttle? thanks!

I had a PM session, and was done at 4:20. I had two interviews, 2 pm and 3 pm, and they were both an hour, but the second one started at 3:20 since the physician was running late. I knew others in my group had 4:30 pm interviews, so presumably they didn't finish until 5:30.

FWIW, that seems kind of off to me. I submitted mid to end of August (don't quite remember) and my letters were the last thing to get marked as received (10/2 while they got my mcat 9/1) and I was marked as 'complete and in review' on 10/5.

It's not like i have outstanding stats (35r, 3.7) so I doubt they were in a rush to get my application complete. I'd send an email or give them a call.

Don't sell yourself short my friend. I'm a student here and your stats are good enough. What this entire process taught me last year was that patience is everything. Remember that interviews continue all the way through the beginning of February and when you interview has no bearing on your chances of admission.

Just keep the faith and keep your fingers crossed. You have time yet. 🙂 👍

Hey all, quick question. I know Yale's secondary is very straightforward and only requires one essay, but I've been dragging my feet with it. Even at this point in the cycle, I still have not submitted it. While I am aware of the fact that Yale has non-rolling admissions, I know that their interviews are handed out on a "rolling" basis. I am planning on submitting this secondary soon, but have I hurt my chances by not submitting it earlier?

Same position. I'd assume probably not. That's what the Why Yale? essay was for. To be very blunt, we're most likely rejected. But, alas, there are many graveyards in med school admissions.

I had heard about this particular interviewer from one of my friends who is now a student at Yale. The interviewer in question was his interviewer too and its his style of saying good luck to the applicants. Nothing too shady or too awesome about it. However, people do believe that if he liked you as as an applicant, you have higher chances of getting in because he can make a good case for you.

Do the students leading the tours and at lunch have any say on admissions? I don't remember the students giving any disclaimers, which makes me wonder if they are evaluating us throughout the day. Anyone remember?

No, we have no say.

But watch out at some schools they do.
