Hi all,
I saw the recent conversation and wanted to contribute. I was admitted at Brody at the beginning of this month, and of all the schools I interviewed at, I thought I had the worst chance of admission at ECU. After interviewing in September, I only sent in handwritten thank you letters to my interviewers and an update letter over Christmas. What I want to impress on you was that I felt I had no chance there (no phone calls to check up or letters if intent) and I was admitted. So while there may be some utility in analyzing every aspect of your app/interview, it ultimately only matters what they (adcom) think.

I wish you all luck and feel free to message me with any questions.

Just received my rejection letter. It appears that I'll be in the reapplicant pool next year.

Best of luck to everyone still waiting for a spot.

Just got the same piece of mail. Best of luck to everyone still in the running.

Would anyone who recently received a letter be willing to share their stats?

It would also be helpful to tell us when you interviewed and how it went! So sorry it didn't work out. Good luck.

I'm not sure if stats will really reveal anything. It seems the people who are being rejected have scores and gpa's that are all over the place.

But I agree with the above poster, I'd really like to know when the people who were notified today interviewed.

Tenover,

I had average stats, right around their yearly averages.

Interviewed 2/8/11.

Hopefully everyone else gets some good news in the coming weeks.

As of March 1, 2011, we have .....
  • Received 851 AMCAS applications
  • Received 746 Supplementary applications
  • Interviewed 488 applicants
  • Made 65 offers
  • (Generally it takes 100-125 offers to fill a class)
According to years prior, there should be 78 offers by April 1.

Wow, only two more acceptances. . .

They only accepted 4 people in February. Well, at least we know that interviews are over, and things should start moving fairly quickly.

And, divot, they told TigerDiver when he interviewed that we would all know our status by April 1, so I would think that they would have their 100 - 125 acceptances by then.

Good luck, everyone!

Doubtful, that would be very risky on their part unless that many people have already declined. I do think the waitlist will be formed at this time though.

Yeah I agree. What I think they meant was you wont be without a decision as of early April and your decision could br placement on the waitlist. They may not reach that 100-125 number until late summer.

^Yeah, I guess that makes more sense.

Either way, sorry that your news wasn't good, those of you who got bad news this week. For those of us remaining, how big do you think the remaining pool is?

488 interviewed
- 65 accepted
423 remaining
- X rejected
Y remaining (us).

Any speculation?

I think its hard to guess. Looking back on this thread you can see that they've been rejecting people for several months now. I would imagine the number rejected at this point would be higher than the number accepted... but that's just a guess based on the fact that there are way less seats than there are number of applicants.

My wife just sent me a text, and there was nothing from ECU in my mailbox today. Don't know if anyone else received anything. . .

Received rejection letter yesterday. Interviewed, in-state student, in early January. Stats were MedCat: 11, 11, 11. Cum Laude graduate of Carolina, finishing law school this May, took a year off to do pre-med sciences - all As. I hoped I would at least be on waitlist, but no such luck.

No news here either... Although when I talked to admissions a week or two ago and they told me that I wouldn't be re-reviewed for several more weeks... so I can't say I really expected to hear anything today.

What are everyone's thoughts on calling the office to ask when the next time you would be reviewed? Do they get annoyed?

I called recently and they said that no decision has been made on my application and that hopefully application decisions would be made over the next 1-2 weeks. They were friendly but seemed slightly irritated... my guess is that the office is getting many calls each day.

Edit: that is what I think they said the other day, but I didn't write it down... I don't want people to think that they are definitely getting a response in the next 3 weeks based solely on that information.

You should try. They didn't seem too annoyed with me, although they didn't give me too much information. It's worth a shot ... at least to show that you're still interested, if nothing else.

I asked about my application on Feb 14. This is the response from the admissions office: "Your application has been reviewed by the committee---they've not made a final decision yet. It will be reviewed again probably sometime within the next month or so. Hopefully most decisions will go out at that time."

Interviewed early November and still waiting which I suppose is a good thing at this point.

I interviewed October 7, and am still waiting. I guess it's good, but at this point, I just want to know - In or Out? I work for myself, so if I'm not getting in this year, I have to start drumming up some business for the fall.

I'm wondering how many times we've been reviewed. I'm a November person as well (I interviewed the week before Thanksgiving). I think the first time I was reviewed was in January... I'm guessing I've been giving at least one more look since then... Not sure though.

I interviewed October 4th and am wondering the same thing. I know I was reviewed before the new year, and probably at least once again since then. She told me that everybody has to agree on your application for you to get an acceptance. I guess that's what's keeping us out!

Hopefully soon!

:xf: :luck:

It sounds like the committee meets on Wednesdays, but does anyone have any idea when they mail out letters (offers and rejections)?

If you go back and look, it looks like rejections are showing up on Mondays and acceptances are showing up on Tuesdays. I don't think there's any significance to the days, but that's just what people have been posting for the past few months.

That could be significant. It could also be that the process of accepting someone may be a little more involving. I think they have to report the acceptance to the AAMC so they can get started on the background check process. I think I've heard of some people who actually get the "You've been accepted to medical school, here is the Certiphi background information form" email before they get their notification from the school they were accepted at.

I'm just ready to hear back. I wonder how many people will be accepted at the next meeting....:xf:

Think so? I assumed we would most likely hear in the first week or so in April with final acceptances, waitlists, and final rejections. I assumed they have made their March decisions. I hope you are right though!! Because if I am rejected or waitlisted I need to go ahead and make my final plans at another school.

I think some people may hear around mid-March since they usually update the number around the mid part of every month. I could be wrong though.

Got the axe today 🙁. Good luck to those still in the running!:luck:

And before somebody asks:
33 MCAT
3.6 cGPA
interviewed early October

So I called ECU and they told me that ALL of the letters were being sent out today and that I should hear back in the next few days.

I even asked, "All of the letters for everyone?" - to which she replied yes.

Well, with patmando hearing today, I would guess that all the acceptances were sent earlier, and that the waitlists/rejections were sent today.

Unless we hear that someone got waitlisted today, in which case, it looks like the rest of us are getting ready for the axe.

God, I hope I'm wrong.

Has anyone else heard anything?

What you're saying is total speculation. Wouldn't read that much into the recent acceptance vs. them finishing up application decisions.

In other words: STAY POSITIVE.

I know it is, and it's part defense mechanism because I'm so worried about finding out I didn't get in. My palms are sweating knowing that I will know my status around this time tomorrow (Friday at the latest).

I hope that you're right, ha87. I hope that we all find out great news tomorrow.

I hope everyone hears great news too.

WHOA! Scary... I almost prefer waiting to knowing at this point... I'd rather be stuck in limbo than be rejected haha

Congrats patmando and good luck to everyone else!

Got the acceptance letter today too.
Can't begin to tell you how relieved I am to know I don't have to take a year off.

It's looking More and more dim for us without letters. Maybe the mail is slower coming to our house for the good news....... Either way nice to know we will know something soon.

Sorry about your news, BlueJ. Do you still have other decisions pending, or have you been accepted somewhere else?

Several decisions pending, several waitlists, and one acceptance so far. So the good news is I know I'm going somewhere! I really liked ECU, but I guess I didn't fit their criteria in one way or another. Anyway, CONGRATS to those accepted today!!!
