As of March 15, 2011, we have .....

Received 851 AMCAS applications
Received 746 Supplementary applications
Interviewed 488 applicants
Made 93 offers
(Generally it takes 100-125 offers to fill a class)

So I called just to clarify, the number of offers only include acceptance offers and is separate from the alternate list. I figured as such but it doesn't hurt to check

Wow... im shocked somewhat... how have they made almost 30 offers in two weeks. Only three people have even said they got an acceptance on here... you'd think there would be more people posting...

There goes any hope I may have had of getting off the WL.

So of those 93 offers of acceptance I would assume the 15 over the class size were not from a waitlist. So now the potential of acceptance from the waitlist just got much smaller. It seemed so hopeful at first, but now not so much.

Wow, still no mail for me. Anyone else in this situation?

I called earlier today and asked how big the waitlist was. She didn't specify, but said it was big enough to fill the whole class one time through.

I was pretty bummed about that too... but you have to think that if they would have just made 78 offers... those 15 other people would have probably came off the waitlist first anyway... so our chances really didn't decrease that much... I guess if we're going to get in, we're going to get in...

They never have more than 78 acceptances out. The extras just represent the people accepted that have already rejected ECU. I think this just means it will be closer to 125. In years past, it was early to mid April before wait list was established. This means, I think, that once other schools make final decisions a few more spots will open up, and again in May when everyone begins getting deposits back. Another 20-30 spots is not unreasonable to expect. Still, I have another accetance and I do not know how long I will wait around.

I think at some point I'd call and find out whats going on if I were you... there is always the chance that it could have gotten lost in the mail. I'd especially consider that a possibility if you live within a few hours of the school.

I called yesterday when I hadn't heard anything. I was told that everyone should have heard something by now and all decisions were mailed out on thursday. Lynn said to call back on Wednesday if I still hadn't heard anything (I did hear later on in the day). She suggested checking my AMCAS address to make sure it was correct. So yeah, you should definitely know! I would call.

Also waitlisted.

31, 4.0 from a decent school, and a lot of research (I think this might have actually hurt me!)

ETA: Interviewed first week of October. It's about time!

I thought I remembered that they replaced a female applicant that does not accept with another female applicant and the same with male applicants. So I looked up the previous student body profiles on their website and the last four years had the same number of female/male matriculants...a 50/50 breakdown. Not sure if they take into account stats, place of resident in NC, schools, etc. when they choose someone off the waitlist but it looks like they want to keep that 50/50 breakdown.

Hopefully its not a regional thing... I know a lot of the schools of the eastern part of the state seem to be represented pretty well... My school only got 2 people in last year...

Hey, tenover.

Have you found anything out yet? I noticed you haven't posted in a few days, and I was curious about what you've found out about your status.

Good luck! :xf:

WL! Did everyone get waitlisted? Are there any rejections out there?

No rejections yet. Looks like we all got waitlisted. I'm keeping my positive thoughts going, though.

Question for anyone who was waitlisted in previous years: Will Brody eventually send you a rejection letter if you don't get in, or will we just stay on the waitlist forever?

I've been on other waitlists in the past. Usually they send a letter after classes have started letting you know. At least at the other schools they did.

I called the other day and they told me that they have reserved slots to speak with dr peden later in the summer for waitlisters. We can't make the appointments until later in the summer though.

So what would we be meeting with peden about? Interesting.....

Exit interview... those who aren't accepted get the opportunity to find out what they can do to improve their application.

I knew that. But my understanding is that you are only allowed one exit interview, ever! I have already had mine. Will my waitlist status get me a second exit interview?

I'm not sure. Thats something I guess you'd have to call/email and ask about. I've never had an exit interview... So I didn't ask if that rule applies to those who are on the waitlist.

What kinds of things does he tell you in the exit interview? I've heard its really helpful.

In my case he wasn't too helpful. Just said that my numbers were fine. Readin between the lines and using the advice given at other schools I learned that my interview was probably terrible.

Oh.. Thats interesting.. I wonder where their cut-off is for numbers being fine.

I know they say their yearly average over the past 3-4 years has ranged from 27-30... and I think the MSAR lists the overall average last year as 29P, but it seems like everyone on here thats been accepted has had super good mcat scores (32+)...

Maybe its just the part of the population that posts on SDN, but I definitely feel hopeless with my 29 on the waitlist.. haha...

don't worry norm. i think if you've made it this far, they're ok with your mcat. i know someone who got in last year with a 29. there have been plenty of people on this forum with high mcats who have already been rejected.

I have a 37 and I'm not in.........

I think you have a great shot. I guess what I meant by that last post is I feel like they'll pull more from the top and I may not even get a look (hopefully they will). I remember in the thread from a year or so ago that someone said something like "there are 80 people backlogged on the waitlist and some people may not even be reviewed again(http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showpost.php?p=8173398&postcount=213)"

I don't know how true this is, but I feel like these next few months are gonna drag by....

My point is that my MCAT doesn't really help me that much. ECU, rightfully so, looks at all qualities of the applicant and how they match their mission statement. I would say anyone with a 29 has just as much of a chance as I do with my score. Obviously there must be other things in my application that have prevented me from getting in up until this point.

On another note, the waitlist isn't a bad thing, but I would get my hopes up because of it....... If I don't hear anything by June 1, I am making other plans.

is the understanding still that the waitlist is < 78?

When I called she said the class was large enough to fill the class one time through. I take that to mean at least 78. I'd imagine not everyone who got a waitlist offer accepted it.. I don't know anyone who turned it down personally, but I couldn't imagine everyone accepted it.

Yeah, I'm with you on making other plans. I'm looking into applying to special masters/certificate programs. If I'm not going to be in medical school next year, I want to be learning something that will prepare me for med school...

do you all think that an acceptance will be delivered as soon as someone declines their offer, or will they wait for the next meeting?

The waitlist is not ranked, so the committee reevaluates the pool of applicants after individuals decline Brody offers. Therefore, offers can only be sent after the next meeting, but I'm not sure if adcom currently meets as often as earlier in the process.

I didn't know that.. I know some schools leave who comes off at the discretion of the dean after a certain point. Does the committee continue meeting at ECU over the summer?

I was in Boone all day and freaked out about not having service in the mountains on the way there. I remembered the letter said something about if they can't reach you they'll skip over to the next person haha...

I remember Dr Peden saying something like this during the post interview wrap up in regards to the wait list: "and we will even keep some of you on the waitlist through the summer in case we have last minute drops".

1. Do you remember hearing this?
2. Did I hear this correctly?
3. Does this mean that they will tell a lot of people on the wait list "sorry, but no" early summer but keep a couple on the wait list for the whole summer?

In other words, will anyone on the wait list hear a definite no before the first day of classes?

I think the context was important then. In that room the majority of the people we were sitting with have probably been rejected by now. So I think the point he was trying to get across was some of us would be accepted, most of us would be rejected (you can tell this by looking at it statistically), and some of us would be kept on a waitlist just in case there are any people who drop in between now and summer.

I could be wrong, but I've never heard of someone getting rejected after being placed on a waitlist. At least not until the cycle is over, but by mid-August you really don't need a letter to tell you you're rejected haha....

So do you guys think there will be zero movement until after May 15th? I remember that one guy a few posts above said he decided to go elsewhere... I wonder if they've filled his spot already.

Whether a few acceptances are handed out before may 15 is irrelevant. The most likely by far time you will hear something will be after may 15, if at all!

At my interview, one girl told me that she had already started orientation at another school and got the call...so it can happen up until school starts.

Anyhow know if there is a facebook group set up for accepted students already?

Received 851 AMCAS applications
Received 746 Supplementary applications
Interviewed 488 applicants
Made 100 offers

I wonder when / what day of the week those 7 new acceptances went out

Did everyone recieve a AAMC recommendations reminder?:

The AAMC offers a set of recommendations to ensure that MD and MD/PhD applicants are afforded timely notification of the outcome of their medical school applications and have timely access to available first-year positions; and to ensure that schools have no unfilled positions in their entering classes.
