Does anyone know if MSU typically sends out their first acceptances on Oct 15?

Judging from last year's posts and their vagueness on Interview day, I feel like it will be some time after Oct. 15th (as soon as next week, maybe), but if anyone has heard a particular day--that'd be great to know! I'm anxiously awaiting :x :xf:

Received invite on 10/11 for 11/4 interview in East Lansing after being complete since 8/24. OOS, uGPA 3.2, gGPA 3.9, MCAT 33S, lots of research/volunteer experience.

Any advice for where to stay and how to get from the airport to campus? Thanks!

Ok, thanks for the info! Best of luck 🙂

This is going to be a week filled with anxiety and worry. For those of you who have interviewed already I'm sure you know what I mean...

I interview tomorrow - currently I'm staying in a hotel in Grand Rapids and can see the top of the medical school from my room, heh.

Never been to Grand Rapids before this, it seems like a pretty nice city.

I'm in I'm in I'm in!!!!! Just got a call from the dean :soexcited:

When were you complete?

If you don't mind me asking, when did those of you accepted interview?

Accepted!! Got the call tonight.. will probably matriculate here!

Congrats to everyone who has gotten in so far!

I got the phone call around 8:30 tonight (interviewed 10/5). This is my first acceptance and I'm happy to finally be able to say that the pressure is off (for this year at least) 🙂

For everyone still waiting to hear back, I wish you all the best of luck.

I know, right!!! I feel like I can breath again...for the first time in six..seven months...? *phew*

I just got an email this morning at 9:30...waitlisted. I interviewed on the 28th. 28 MCAT, 3.5 GPA instate. Looks like I'll just have to be patient and hope for the best at this point. Congrats to those of you that have already gotten your acceptances and congrats to those of you that will have them coming shortly!

I got accepted last night! Interviewed 9/28 and found out about the interview just one week in advance. It was all worth it! 🙂

Interviewed at Grand Rapids yesterday and loved it. The interviews were very conversational and EVERYONE was so friendly. The school looks absolutely amazing. The next notification date is Nov 2nd so hopefully I'll hear back from the school then. 😍:xf::xf::xf::xf:😍

P.S: The interviewers don't have your MCAT scores or your GPA.

Congrats to everyone who got in!!! And good luck to everyone who interviewed. For those who interviewed already, I have a question. On the SDN interview feedback, everyone says they had a "casual conversation" but what does this exactly mean? Do they just ask questions on your extra-curricular staff or is literally a casual conversation? I have my interview next thursday so any words to relieve my stress would be great

Thanks!

Thanks!

The interviewers have all your extracurricular/volunteer/activities information, but they don't have any of your academic info. Both my interviewers did ask me questions about my activities.

I think everyone describes it as conversational because it is a very laid-back atmosphere. My student interview was a lot like a normal conversation. My faculty interviewer pushed me a bit to really describe my motivations, but it wasn't a pressure-packed situation at all.

I would say that the FEELING of the interview is casual and laid-back; however, depending on your interviewer and your personal style, it may read more like a question-answer session than a conversation--or, one subject could lead to another.

Personally, my student interview was more question-answer until the end when we chatted about TV shows and places we had traveled. On the other hand, my faculty interview was a more equal mixture of both.

Just know that in both of the interviews, each interviewer is required to ask at least three questions from a standard list and you are guaranteed to get asked an ethical/difficult situation question in at least one of the interviews.

fruitpunchjoys, thanks for the informative answer..in terms of ethical questions, should we expect something from the questions that are posted on SDN..furthermore, a general question extended to all, is it advised to know of Michigan specific health policies?

Thanks 🙂

I'd just go off what is on SDN. My ethical question was to pick a medical dilemma and talk about both sides.

I don't think you need to know Michigan's health policies...the interview isn't really testing your knowledge of policy--it's really just to get to know more about you and your activities.

Accepted! I got accepted a few days ago, but I did not have time to post it. Best of luck to the other applicants 🙂

Ditto what everyone else said. The student interview imo was a little mored structured while the faculty member pushed me a little more. The faculty asked questions regarding ethical dilemas in medicine and specific scenarios and how I would approach them.

I feel the same way, I don't think it's even fully sunk in yet, I feel like I should be stressed out about something still, its so weird...now I just have to work up the motivation to finish up my last year of undergrad, ugh!

Sorry, I was gone for a few days! I had similar questions as loua0731 stated a few days ago--so yes, just prepare for a medical ethical dilemma/general ethical dilemma question. I was not asked anything about healthcare reform or Michigan health policies.

I know, every day I remind myself "hey! next year you'll be in med school!" haha, it's amazing. I do not envy you--I'm a non-trad (graduated in the spring) and working full-time so I'm suuuuper thankful I don't have to balance this crazy application process and school at the same time! (Though I will say it would have been nice to have an acceptance at this time last year!) Good luck finishing up without too much "Senioritis"

I got an interview invitation today! I'll be in EL next thursday (wow, quick!) 11/4. I'm very excited! I would have preferred the Grand Rapids campus because it's about 2 hours closer to chicago, I have never seen the GR campus, and because I have been to the EL campus twice now. But beggers can't be choosers and I'm so grateful for an interview!

FYI I have been complete for nearly 3 months.

Congrats! Yeah, my invite was like a week before my interview too, they do things quick here I suppose.

Thanks so much! I feel very blessed. Hopefully I will feel less anxiety at this one than I felt at my CCOM interview. Although I supose that worked out for me.... 😛

BTW, congrats on your many acceptances! Of your acceptances so far, if you don't mind me asking, any idea which school is on top?

Thanks 🙂 Well I wanted to stay in the Midwest from the beginning so I guess I'm pretty lucky I have my options, right now its either CCOM or MSUCHM but I have a pretty good feeling I'm going to get into Wayne State, which is my top choice. There are only a couple of schools I would have to really consider over Wayne, and I don't see myself getting interviews there when I've been complete at those schools for this long 😀 lol

Is there anyone else who interviewed late September and hasn't heard anything yet? Should I be worried? 😕

I'm in the same boat-- interviewed 9/28 and haven't heard anything good or bad yet... getting a little worried...

I interviewed 9/28 and got a phone call on 10/19.

I'm sure they just didn't get to your application yet, because they call everyone they accept, e-mail everyone they deny, or change your status on the website to undecided (or something like that, and they will review your application again later).

The admissions committee meets every other Tuesday night and usually calls people that night and sends out e-mails the next day. They might meet more often than this, but I'm not sure. They met 10/19, so they should be meeting again this upcoming Tuesday.

I am IS, decent MCAT score, great GPA, lots of community service and clinical experience.

Thanks Pink 2 for the info!

Adventuring, hopefully we'll hear some good news next week. :xf:🙂

Everyone, try (I know it is hard) to not count days since your interview and compare to others who interviewed before/after you and analyze whether you should hear back now/later. The admissions committee doesn't review people in chronological order and applications are commonly shelfed for later re-review after an initial look. It means nothing if you don't hear back with the first folks who interviewed on the same day.

Example: I interviewed on the same day as two others from my undergrad. It was Halloween. The first person heard back on November 4th, the second was just before Christmas and the third in the middle of January. We all got in. Don't over-analyze this. Another person from my undergrad interviewed in early November and got waitlisted two weeks later. There is no pattern, so don't go looking for one and driving yourselves nuts.
