Sorry, NW. This process is crushing.

I strongly recommend you make an appointment with admissions to discuss what they felt your app was lacking. I've heard that other people have done this and been successful if they follow admissions' advice.

Beyond how late the post interview appointment it's not going to be all that helpful because they're switching to MMI format. Unless someone has heard anything to the contrary.

It definitely sounds like they're going MMI, which is fine by me. But like Dianyla said, it would look a little weird to essentially say "you didn't like me last year and I don't care to know why."

Also, can I use my (so far very faulty) mind-reading powers to suggest that if you haven't heard anything so far you're probably at least *somewhere* on the waitlist? :luck:

i know ohsu is pretty stingy with scholarship money, at least for the first year. are there opportunities for scholarships your second, third, and fourth year if you don't get any form of aid at the start?

Yes. They announce scholarship application time first year - seems like it's around January? In my experience, quite a few people got small scholarships. Spreading the love instead of handing out full-rides. 🙂

Hmmm...I hope so. I'm still on hold despite checking every 25 minutes all day. However I'm not getting my hopes up, with OHSU who knows.

I looked through last years thread and it look liked they did particular updates by day, meaning reject one day and waitlist the next.

Again all blind speculation as to what the plan is this year.

I don't know about this plan, but I got an acceptance email today, so don't get worried if you haven't heard! Hopefully I'll see you all there.

Sorry to hear about the declines. I know that there's not much anyone can say to make it any better, but I really do believe that there are more qualified applicants than they have seats for, so I hope people can take some comfort in that knowledge.

Congratulations!

For those people who are still waiting, don't give up hope. There have been new people asking to join the OHSU Med 2015 facebook page almost every day, which means that even if not a lot of good news gets posted here there are some recent happy stories.

If you've been accepted, don't forget to join the facebook page. Just search for "OHSU Med 2015" from inside facebook 🙂

Congrats!! Was it your first update or did it come off the hold list?

First update! I interviewed during the last week. I imagine they're going through us first before they'll tackle the hold list.

Exactly how small are we talking?? I imagine there is a range, but if one got a scholarship, could they expect something like 5k or 10k a year??

I'm going to keep on hoping for a straight out acceptance instead of waitlist. Hopefully my pride doesn't prove to be my undoing and I end up with an outright rejection...

Congrats! I'm hoping my first update will be good news too.

rejected 5/12/2011 🙁

good luck to those still waiting to hear back

Rejectified.

This application season has been f*king awful.

They emailed me. I checked the portal after the email and my portal wasn't updated.

Alright so who knows if this is a shoe in or not...but I was emailed an update for a waitlist spot of #18.

Does any remember how many they took last year? Sorry I know I could look back in the archived forums, but I'm sure one of you knows for sure.

Good luck everyone!

Also my portal wasn't updated, just an email.

Hope that will calm some ppl's nerves of unchanged portals.

URHere, you are an expert at this and have been so helpful so maybe you can answer this question.

I am on the waitlist for the MD/PhD, do they also consider me for MD only? If they can't offer me a MD/PhD spot this year I would love to go for the first year and apply as an internal candidate. Please let me know how this process works.

Alright I found this in last years thread, it is the number OHSU took off the waitlist each year.
Maybe if someone knows they can fill in what the number was last year? Thanks!

Good luck everyone!

I have an excel file of how the waitlist progressed in past years if someone wants it to update/post this year's progress and compare it to past years. Just personal message me an e-mail address to send it to.

Based on previous years, I want to say that, yes, OHSU will absolutely consider you for MD-only admission. Several of my MD classmates applied MD/PhD and matriculated as MD-only students.

That being said, things started working a little bit differently this cycle and I'm not sure exactly what that is going to mean for you. In previous years, the MD and MD/PhD programs made independent decisions on applicants. Unfortunately, that meant that many applicants (like me) ended up on an MD program waitlist even after we had the green light from the dual degree program. This year, the MD/PhD program has more pull in the process, and ending up on MD/PhD waitlist means that the MD program was at least willing to accept you if that's what the combined program wanted. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much MD-only consideration you will get under the new system.

So, in summary, I'm really not sure. I would keep my eye out for a separate update from the MD-program, though - that's probably your best indicator of what is going on.

If you do get in MD-only, an email will go out during your first year inviting MS1 and MS2 students to apply to the MD/PhD program internally. You just respond and take it from there.

So... I'm #9 on the waitlist... how likely do you think I will get in? Should I relax a bit now or still keep studying for the MCAT in case I don't get in?

I was waitlisted last year as an MD/MPH applicant and this is how the process was explained to me:
If you're a part of the "special" demographics that OHSU cares about (i.e., in state, from one of the state with no med schools, and everything else they listed on the portal) you will be admitted to the MD program if your number comes up. If your number comes up and there's still room in the dual program (which is rarely the case) you will be offered a spot in the dual program.

However, if you do not fall in the special pool of applicants, then when your number comes up, you can only be considered for the dual program. As both MD/MPH and MD/PhD programs are tiny, the chances are slim to none.

Stop studying and go party 😎

The odds are you wont get in... number 9 is pretty sketchy i dont see 9 people turning down OHSU....

Artemis i know you lol....

No status change on the portal (its still says "hold") and no email today! Does that pretty much mean game over for me at OHSU? On a positive note we are having a beautiful day on the Oregon coast!

Also no email or status change. And it, too, is a nice day in Eastern Oregon

Kinda1 i am joking by the way... i agree with Artemis you are set.. enjoy your time off.. see you next year

Spoke too soon. Just received alt. rank #54. What an uncertain number.

Gah I never even got a status update to put me on hold...

Alternate #60. I think it's time to get excited about my other acceptance.

Sorry about the results at OHSU 🙁

I'm excited for your other acceptance though 🙂 Say hi to Arizona for me ok?

Hey, until you hear otherwise you're still very much in the game! :luck:

Maybe. It seems like they are going in order of waitlist. Unless that's just how it happened to be posted on SDN and they offer me a lower waitlist spot than some of the higher ones posted here I'm not holding my breath.

61

Any ideas on how to file a racial discrimination law suit against this school?

Pretty unenthused with my waitlist ranking. Not getting more specific than that. Oh well.

Thanks Gara. I'm getting excited too! The Portland weather this year has made this news pretty easy to handle. 😎

Good luck!

Ouch, I guess I am out of luck then...... I don't fall into those two categories. Well I better start thinking of other options.

I'm about to loose my mind
I've waited for so long
Now I'll have to apply one more time
I want to be a doctor
call me a "Doctor"
I want to be a doctor ..... doctor
To save people's liiiiiiiiiiiiiives
