Ouch. Thanks for the heads-up. I guess I won't hold my breath.

You can hold your breath if you want...then you really will never get a secondary from them...or anything from anyone else really. Who knows? It could take away your misery hahaha. I'm totally kidding btw. 😛

Are you IS or OOS?

OOS. The secondary looks a bit beastly, so I would have pushed it off to the end, anyway, but just wanted to be sure it was the norm (not that I was screened or there was a problem or something).

Ya, it is definitely a beast! Good luck with it when you get it, but ya, don't worry about the timing. I got it around the 12th of August, and most had gotten it several weeks before me.

does anyone know how OHSU feels about sending them additional information? while i though their secondary essay questions were good and allowed me to explain a bit, i want to tell them some additional things specifically about my application. any ideas?

also, is the only way to contact them via their online comment submission?

Question for those who have already submitted their secondaries... how long did it take for you to get marked as Complete? Did you get an email notification with this update or did this only display online in the secondary application portal?

Thanks! 🙂

Hey, in-state here. I submitted a couple of weeks ago; apparently it took five days for completion. I didn't receive an email, but it gives a timeline of application events on their secondary website. Best of luck!

"To all other applicants (Non Mission-Based): OHSU screens Mission-Based applicants first for interview eligibility. By January, the committee will evaluate Non Mission-Based applicants for interview eligibility."

Holy moley, they don't even look at OOS non-URM non-MD/PhDs' secondaries until January?! 😱

These are all mission-based applicants in order or priority:

--Residents of Oregon.
--WICHE-Certified residents of Montana and Wyoming.
--Applicants applying to the M.D./Ph.D. and M.D./M.P.H. Combined Degree Programs.
--Non-resident applicants with superior achievements in academics and other related experiences. For the 2011 cycle, superior academics is defined as a cumulative Total GPA, as reported by AMCAS, of 3.65 or higher and a cumulative score of 32 or higher on the most-recent eligible MCAT.

The School of Medicine Admissions Committee fully recognizes the importance of diversity in its student body and in the physician workforce in providing for effective delivery of health care. Accordingly, the OHSU School of Medicine strongly encourages applications from persons from all socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, religious, and educational backgrounds and from persons from groups underrepresented in medicine.

Hard to tell if it's just a phrasing issue. To me it sounds like they're promising to be done looking at non-mission applicants by January, not starting in January. But who knows!

Cool, thanks for the info!

Hey everyone. It's my first post 🙂

I've seen it mentioned twice but each person gave different numbers. Would anybody be able to tell me how much the secondary application fee for OHSU is?

I'm putting together a spreadsheet of each school I applied to and info about each. Money is tight so I need to know how much I'll need in the next few week (plus the waiting is just killing me so I'm trying to keep busy...)

It's 100 bucks, possibly 105...but I am pretty sure it's 100.

Thanks. I was hoping it would be at the lower end of the spectrum considering how little screening they appear to do but I guess nothing good in life is cheap right?

does anyone know how to contact admissions at OHSU? the only thing i could find was a webpage where you type your question directly into a box and it submits it to admissions... unfortunately, it's been over a week and i haven't received a response yet. i just want to call to get a quick response. does anyone know where i can find the phone number?

MD Program admissions: 503 494-2998

This was the only number I could find and had no success with it though. I had a quick question as well and called repeatedly and left a message. Never got through and never heard back. Give it a try though and good luck getting a response.

I'm confused by the employment/activities question. Should we list things such as awards and publications??

There are several interpretations, but I only put major scheduled activities such as volunteering and employment.

If you go to OHSU's main site and click on contact up by the "search OHSU" box, it should pop up with all the different schools phone numbers. I called the Med school number and was immediately connected to the Dean!--who then connected me to the admissions department. It actually went pretty well.

The number is 503-494-8220

WICHE applicant here. Finished the secondary and now I have a little exclamation point alerting me that I have yet to be certified by WICHE and reminding me to make sure I send OHSU a copy of my certification. Does anyone know when we'll know about certification? And will we be sent that information or will it automatically be sent to our AMCAS school? Laurie told me I'd hear from her in August but still no word. Should I email her?

WICHE certified!!

Finally submitted my 2ndary. Will they hate me for submitting my 2ndary on the last day possible?

A tip to future applicants: don't fall in love in the midst of application season.

mtmed, do you have a specific thing telling you that you are WICHE certified? I emailed ages ago but they haven't done very well at getting back to me.

Oh, and the reason I think it makes sense to put publications, and probably awards as well, is that the research you did to get the publication was probably done in that time window. Also, a publication is something that requires work, so you are doing an activity or you are employed by a lab.

Thanks, but I already submitted it. After re-reading the instructions a few times, it really sounded like they just wanted your activities and employment, which is what I listed. But I did mention one of my publications in one of my research descriptions. Hopefully they'll see my other pubs and awards in my primary! Or else what was the point of the primary?

Yeah, it overlapped with the primary quite a bit in that section anyway. I would certainly hope they will see both.

I have worked up there in different labs for a while, and it is so weird being an applicant now. I can just sense my application sitting there--Mac Hall, 4th floor. I eat lunch in Mac Hall. Feels eery now.

I'm still waiting to be completed. I submitted my secondary on 8/30 and haven't seen any changes since. My letter packet is assigned to OHSU in AMCAS, so they should have it automatically right? 😕

Anyone else in this boat?

Invite just now. Complete on 8/19:soexcited::claps:
Congrats!! :luck:

Congrats! Very exciting to hear they're starting up the interviews already.

I went by the admissions office today because I found a typo in my application and figured why mail it when I work right there. I asked a woman (don't know her title) about time frame. She said they are currently processing secondaries from around Sept. 1. (I put mine in yesterday), and then if all is complete and you are the top mission priority you go on to at least 2 faculty members for interview invites. She said they interview October through March.

She also said the AMCAS letter service makes things really smooth.

Hey, cool, thanks for posting that. I submitted 8/30 so I've been getting nervous about whether I needed to do anything else to be marked complete.

They sent a packet to my house. My dad scanned the certification letter to me and I emailed it to the admissions office at OHSU

MiniPanda-- You keep getting interviews I want!! Congrats though! Its very exciting!

Go Panda!!!!!

BTW, if you get a invitation for an interview, do you pick a day, are you assigned a day? How much notice do you get?

They offered me two dates, with a month's notice before the first one. But they say that if you don't pick one of those two dates... you're removed from consideration. Harsh! lol.

They gave me four dates from which to chose stating that the offer expires Oct 14th. I opted for the first chance I could get. 🙂

Wow, that is pretty harsh... what happens if you can't make those 2 dates by chance?? That doesn't sound fair...

My secondary was submitted in the middle of August and everything shows as received EXCEPT for my Committee letter as well. The letter was submitted to AMCAS the end of august but OHSU's site says they don't have it yet!! it's been 2 weeks and i'm getting worried! Anyone in the same boat now?

Update: Just checked back couple of hours later and now it shows as received and officially "complete" !! yay =D

For the record, OHSU won't mark your letters as received until they actually download them from AMCAS. So, for the other applicants out there, don't be surprised if you end up in some sort of "letters sent but not received" limbo for a week or two. 🙂

Non WICHE OOS resident here. Just got interview invite today!! Way excited as this is one of my top choices and my sister lives in Portland and I've visited the campus and hospitals! Love it.

Stats: 33Q 3.9c

Congratulations on the interview invites, everyone! 🙂

Ah, they finally processed my secondary. Submitted 8/30, processed 9/15.

Congrats!! I'm also OOS so that's exciting news. I submitted my 2ndary on the last day possible, so I hope that doesn't hurt me too much 🙁. I spent a lot of time to make sure my response was the best it could possibly be though... so I hope that makes up for it.

Secondary processed on 9/07...no interview yet...

So I was all set to submit my secondary today. Logged into the system and then saw that I missed the deadline to submit. (I never even saw that they gave a deadline in the first initial email <--- bad reading skills) Anyone know how lenient the admissions office is? Anyone else submit a secondary after the deadline? 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁
