Yeah, the gonad lectures were excellent timing for interviewing students. 🙂 Ah well.

I wasn't being sarcastic, I liked the opportunity to see the lecture format...I just thought it was slightly amusing to walk into the room and see "gonads" on the board in bold letters.

I was completed on 9/15, and just got an interview invite today! 😍
I haven't checked this thread in awhile because I am not a mission-based applicant and don't think Oregon will look upon me favorably.....but Dianyla I was really pulling for you to get an interview here, and I'm so happy you did!!! Major congrats!!

Awww, thank you so much! I'm just so relieved that they seem willing to look past some major defects in my application (like my 3.01 BCMP) and take a more holistic view of me as a candidate. 😀

Hey Guys, to those that interviewed and to current students,

do the people that have interviewed you physically go infront of the adcom and present you to them or is it just simple letter they write to adcom. I interviewed there last Thursday the 14th and I just wanted to know how the process works...

I think they can do it either way. My understanding is that they write something up regardless, but can go to committee or not. One of my interviewers said he'd never gone, and the other was vice-chair or something like that (so I expect a regular attender).

so i had a really nice interview that lasted 1 hour and teh interviewer really got to know me. my second interview was average i felt the interviewed was more nervous than i was... and she really had a diffucult time communicating.. what would happen like if one of teh interviewers gives a 100% positive feedback and teh other one is average....

I can't say for sure since I'm not a committee member, but I'm sure they are familiar with the different interviewers and weigh the feedback accordingly. If one of your interviewers is new to the job and gives pretty neutral feedback for everyone, it shouldn't count against you. On the other hand, if one person is really excited about you being a good fit for the school, I think the committee should take that seriously.

Someone at my interview pointed out that by the time you're interviewing you are completely qualified to be there. The rest is just seeing if it's a good mutual fit. A very low percentage of applicants interview, and a high percentage of interviewees are accepted.

I really don't know much more about the process, but if you want to vent or panic, feel free to PM me. 🙂

I just wanted to pass along a note of encouragement to everyone hoping for an interview invite. There is a 2nd year MD student who does some research in the lab I work in. She had something like 8 interviews when she was applying. She was complete at OHSU in the fall, but she didn't get an interview until March, and she got in.

So, don't despair, and I will try not to either, if you don't get an interview right away.

Wait, this gal had 8 interviews when she was applying? It's easy to not despair if one were to be in such a situation. But I get what you're saying Dr. Saturn. There's nothing I can do besides wait anyway and I'm not even complete.

OK yeah, she had a ton. I am just applying to OHSU, so I was focused on that. I heard this woman yesterday say if you get an interview right away you are extra special or something like that. We have all heard something that makes you neurotic in this process.

I was just trying to provide an example or why one shouldn't lose heart.

ok when i interviewed at OHSU this year, i found one thing really strange, their step 1 pass rate for 2009 was 86%, that means 14% of the class didnt pass the STEP 1 and since it is required to go on the 3rd year they didnt go on their third year and had to go to another state and attend a step1 prep course..... any thoughts on this? Maybe current students at OHSU can clarify what this means? Does the school not prepare you for STEP 1? No like prep sessions etc... this was really concerning to me.

I just got an interview! Yeah! SO STOKED ON PORTLAND!

I'm an OOS wondering if anyone (maybe someone who has interviewed?) know the statistics on the number of offers for acceptance made to out of state students. From the MSAR it looks like 330-some OOSers are interviewed and about 50 matriculate, but I'm wondering if anyone has an idea about how many of those 330 are offered spots. Thanks!

If it's proportional, then an overall 200 offers for 120 spots would mean around 83 offers for OOS. On the other hand, I'd be inclined to believe that IS folks accept offers at a higher rate, which would mean that even if 70 IS students matriculate, maybe only 100 are given offers of acceptance, leaving the OOS folks with ~100. You can spin things however you like, depending on your mood. (I know they say 200-220 for acceptances, but given the increased competition and lack of waitlist movement in recent years, I'm guessing that's pretty much 220 in 2005 and 200 now.)

Yes, the 2009 pass rate was low. However, it was a steep drop from previous years an isn't really reflective of OHSU's overall pass rates. As much as I love the Med11 class, their mean scores were a bit lower than previous years across the board (Step 1, MS1 & MS2 exams, etc). While we don't have the 2010 stats back yet, I fully expect them to jump back up.

Does the school not prepare you for STEP 1? No like prep sessions etc... this was really concerning to me.

The only official prep comes in the form of lunchtime "seminars" that cover how to register for the exam, helpful tips, etc. However, MS3 and MS4 students traditionally run review lectures for a month or so, there are review videos from past students available online, and there is access to Goljan. Personally, I think that's more than enough when it comes to structured prep.

a month later...and I just finished my secondary!!! WhoOOray!😀 just submitted! now I wait 😎 cooly

wow congrats to everyone who are up for interview! I'm super jealous  I only submitted my secondary a little over a week ago, so still a long wait till I hear anything

Secondary submitted: 9/20
Instate and STILL waiting to be complete.

I called the admissions office this morning and got to talk to a nice young woman. I inquired about the status of my file and was told simply that they hadn't gotten to it yet and that my app was in the next group to be processed. It's going to be a long year...

Has OHSU handed out any acceptance yet? Hasn't heard from anyone on SDN that got accepted here. Share the good news!

We were told next week at the earliest when I interviewed last month...this, of course, hasn't stopped me from looking incessantly though.

I submitted 09/10 and still not Complete yet... but I'm OOS so I guess to an extent, less prioritized.

I think I'll give it another week before I call and ask.

Yeah, if I remember correctly then tomorrow was the first meeting of the admissions committee, meaning they might get around to contacting a couple lucky folks whose interviewers can make it sometime next week.

This may help somewhat.

Anyone know if apps are processed in groups or anything. Seems like people who submitted a week ahead of me have gotten notice of interview more than a week ahead of me. Submitted 9/23 just wondering when I might hear.

Yeah definitely feels like they process in a random order doesn't it? completely adds to the paranoia with all this waiting

In addition, our first year test questions have been rewritten to resemble board questions. This is the first year they've done it, and any difference it makes won't be seen for a little while (as my class has almost 2 years until Step 1), but it can't hurt.

I submitted 9/12 and was completed 10/12. I was told mine took longer than a friends because I am in state and they had to verify that.

Huh, that seems odd that it would take so long to verify residency. I submitted 8/30 and was complete 9/15. Then again, as a non-trad I might have a more obvious paper trail that establishes me as an OR resident (and taxpayer... and homeowner... etc).

I heard yesterday (from an adcom) that the first meeting is actually next week.

Sorry, I forgot to update what happened when I called OHSU to get feedback on my rejection. I spoke with the admissions office and they only offer rejection feedback in the summer. I'm not sure what to think about that because that hardly allows sufficient time to correct an application deficiency before the next cycle begins. I guess there is still hope that I'll get in somewhere else this year, but I'll keep blindly trying to improve my application for 2012 in the interim. 😕

Does anybody know if they automatically send a secondary to everybody, or if they screen?

Please see the answer to your question below, which was taken from OHSU Secondary's FAQs

In an effort to expedite the distribution of secondary applications to our applicants, we do not prescreen AMCAS applications for eligibility requirements. Before submitting your secondary application, please review your application to determine if you meet all of the above listed requirements. It is the applicant’s responsibility to review the eligibility requirements.

Dates listed are November 2,4,16 or December 14,16. I have an interview at Keck on Nov. 16th, and I'm wondering if I should go with a week from Thursday (eek!) or December. Those two are my only interviews so far...(3.75 33R oos).

The general consensus on here seems to be that an interviewee has an equal opportunity regardless of what day they interview (because of the way the school does its acceptances). If you feel like you would be better prepared to interview in a month then I would recommend that.

On another note, are there any other "already interviewed" who are fidgeting as much as I am over getting a status update. I reallyreallyreally want to go here!!

[Raises hand anxiously]
I guess next Monday is the soonest anyone would possibly hear?

This makes me glad that I'm not interviewing until mid-November. Less time to fidget and angst! 🙄

Hope you both get good news soon!

Has anyone who has interviewed heard anything yet??

Someone said the first ADCOM meeting is this week, right?

Correct they meet today and people that interviewed in september and early november will hear back on Tuesday... if you do get accepted you will get an email from the admissions office congratulating and letting you know you should expect a package

I thought we were just getting portal updates and a follow up snail mail. I honestly didn't know I could get so antsy!! :xf::xf:

Nothing here. Though from what I remember of the orientation, it could be as late as Thursday before anyone hears anything back.
