Interview Invite 11/19
Interview 12/8

Congrats to those who have been accepted already--I'm glad they have such a quick turnaround time (unlike another school I'm dying to hear back from). I'm super excited to be interviewing at Rush and would LOVE to be in Chicago

To those who have interviewed, what is the interview structure/how many interviewers?

Is anyone else interviewing on the 8th? I know there's a Student-Faculty Tea that evening hosted by the president of Rush that I might try to stop by before my flight out.

im excited about interviewing tomorrow! i feel like i know this city inside and out, but ive never been on rush's campus before! only passed it on the el/290.

for people that have already interviewed, what was the interview day like? how were your interviews? any tough questions? i tried looking at the interview feedback site but its not working for me right now.

also, anyone in from out of town and staying by yourselves, feel free to post back/pm me if you want someone to take you around after the interview. or anyone else for that matter. ive done this in other cities i have interviewed in and its been a lot of fun getting to know some locals/fellow applicants.

To those of you who are asking about interviews, the structure is something like this:

Snacks & School Overview
Mini-Financial Aid presentation/Q&A
Interviews (2)
Clinical Tour
Lunch with M2s and Academic Tour
"Wrap Up"

The interview day was pretty chill. There was quite a bit of down time in between interviews to talk to other applicants and Jill (Recruitment Director who happens to be incredibly enthusiastic and super nice!!). There are two interviews and they escorted us to and from both of them, which was great. Mine were very conversational and low stress. One of them had more questions than another, but nothing big -- things like how comfortable I am with other cultures/various types of diversity given Rush's patient population and location, have I considered other careers (MPH/PhD) based on my application background and interests/why medicine, what do I see myself doing in the future, how will I cope with the stress of med school, etc.

One interview was open file and the other was closed.

At the end of the day during the wrap up, some other people might drop in to tell you why the school is awesome (special program directors or physicians that happen to be free at the time) and let you ask questions. Also, they tell you what to expect from the interview day on out, which I really appreciated. It almost prevented me from neurotically checking my email :)

Does anyone know the order to which RUSH sends acceptances? I interviewed in October and have not heard anything yet. Should I be expecting a rejection?

I actually interviewed the same date as you. I've been waiting ever since, and haven't heard back. It's killing me!! But each person's wait is different depending on how quickly your interviewers turn in the evaluations, etc. I have hope to hear back really soon.

I'll be there on the 8th :)

interview day was awesome! pretty much exactly as hippo described. my interviews were 45 minutes (open file) and 30 minutes (closed file). i couldn't have asked for better interviewers, and the med students were really helpful and down to earth. i absolutely loved it there. i felt really at home, and feel very confident that a rush education would make me an excellent doctor. plus, rotations at cook county sound fantastic.

for those of you interested in numbers, they said they got over 7,000 apps this cycle, will interview around 360-375 people and accept about 220. jill said that they would really like to make use of the waitlist this year so they can "build their class". one of my interviewers told me that they accept more early on and accept fewer later in the cycle, fwiw. jill also mentioned that those interviewing in december might have to wait longer to hear back because of the holidays.

good luck everybody!

The day was pretty much what everyone else described. Really laid back with the interviews being mostly conversational. People and facilities were really nice! The big new hospital and stroger rotations are a major plus.

I'm really happy to hear other people had the same experience at Rush that I did. I was starting to feel lonely!

Good luck to you both (especially with the wait!) :luck:

I also agree with pullupthepeople and fishsticks. The interview day was one of the best experiences I've had thus far. I've been at Rush for 1.5 years (grad school and employment)...yet I was still excited and amazed. That sure does tell you something. :D

For what its worth, Jill mentioned to us yesterday about the wait time and said it normally takes 3-4 weeks. However she did give an example of someone (maybe you) that has been currently waiting 5 weeks because the interviewer has been out of the country and didnt turn the interview feedback paperwork in. But the interviewer did get back and the canidate will be in comitee next week.

To add on to this, when I interviewed in October, Jill told my group to expect to wait at least 4-6 weeks (more likely the latter) and that even then, it could be later due to certain interviewers. I think last years thread had quite a few students who interviewed early November (one of the first few dates for Rush that year) and didn't find out until after the new year (Jan, Feb?). So, as tough as it is to wait, I wouldn't call it quits yet. Hang in there!

I'm guessing if you haven't gotten an interview invite yet (complete in Early November) you are pretty much out of the running?

I highly doubt it. The last set of people to receive interview invites on here were complete in mid-September. If you were only complete ~month ago, I'm sure they just haven't gotten to you yet.

Thanks guys...who would have thought the wait would be emotionally harder than the MCAT!

AND even if people complete around your date have been getting interview invites, I wouldn't freak out. I was complete early August and didn't get an interview invite until November, and as someone posted before, Rush has only had so many interview dates thus far.

It truly sounds like the wait can range anywhere from <2 weeks to >6 weeks -- to those who are anxiously waiting, try to sit tight!

i was complete 8/9, got an invite on 11/24, interviewed on 12/1.

Hey everyone! I'm a first year at Rush. i was complete last October and didn't receive my interview invite until early March!! So, don't give up!!! Also, feel free to message me with any questions about the school :) congrats to everyone accepted so far!

Here's a toast to hearing back today. I interviewed on the 27th. Long wait.

Could you be a little more specific? Like did you get in or not and what are your stats?

I interviewed but haven't heard the admissions decision yet. its around 6 weeks post interview, so my interviewers may have taken a while to submit their evaluations.

Got my first acceptance here yesterday at 3:23 pm after walking back from my UMich interview. I am a happy man :) Pending two other decisions, I may be passing the spot off to someone else next week though, so good luck!

ACCEPTED!!!! #1 choice!

Longest wait of my life but finally got the email yesterday!!!
In-state; S: 8/20; Interview:10/27

Thank you to everyone who commented back the last couple of weeks! And good luck to the rest of the applicants still waiting!

<sigh>
My first MD waitlist... and I thought the interview went super well [besides the fact that I had to wear my flower power glasses -- forgot my contacts].
I'm really disappointed because this was probably my first or second choice... so now I have to wait on the waitlist and hope.

Interview: 11/3
Waitlist: 12/3

Idea of stats on MDapps.

Hey all I am scheduled to interview here 1/5. I have scheduled my flight the same day to leave Midway airport at 7:05pm. I know the interview day ends at 3:00pm. Do you think I will have enough time to make my flight? Thanks!

Congratulations Wishescometrue!!!

you should be fine. I was done by 1/1:30 on my interview day, but even if you dont get out of there until 3 you will still have plenty of time to get to midway.

I think mass decisions went out last friday...

Complete - 9/16
Interview Invite - 10/27
Interview - 11/17
Decision - 12/3, accepted.

I am surprised at the quick turnaround, but very very appreciative of it at the same time.

Good luck everyone!

Application complete 9/22. Would it be a fair assessment that I've been passed over for an interview at this point?

My application was complete on 10/28 and I just got an interview invitation today for 1/5. However, I'm out-of-state and not sure how good of a sign that is. Does anyone know about the odds of getting accepted for out-of-state kids? Is an interview invitation a good step?

This is 2007 data
Out of state: 3998 applied, 107 interviewed, 56 were accepted, 21 enrolled

so you have about a 50% chance of acceptance... though I don't know how many acceptances came from off the waitlist.
Though looking at last year thread, I am unsure if anyone gets accepted off the waitlist... which makes me super sad. :(

They didn't take anyone off the waitlist last year. Perhaps they'll change how many acceptances they give out in hopes of utilizing it this year, but no way of knowing until it happens. Hopefully we don't need to worry about waitlists and get accepted outright.

FWIW, Jill said the past years stats wouldn't really be representative of the incoming class because Rush lost almost all/all of its state funding, so they no longer have an IS preference/quota/whatever it is

has anyone gotten their admissions information in the mail yet? im just trying to gauge when i should be expecting something...

When was Rush state funded? It has always been a private medical school. I thought?

So, as a last-ditch form of procrastination after pulling out all the stops, I checked out this year's applicant thread and saw your questions, so I'm gonna try and answer them the best I can for you :) (Be warned:I ramble!!)

In terms of my choice... definitely. I had a few other offers, including an in-state option, but I'll be real here: Rush is pretty fantastic. First of all, the location is awesome. Chicago is an amazing city and I've been able to do so many things and still pass decently (which is also a testament to Rush's attempts to make our lives as well-rounded as possible as students).

But I think the best thing about Rush is the insane amount of patient experience and volunteer opportunities. If you're in to working in the community and with a wide range of people, you'll really enjoy the different opportunities at Rush. They have an entire program (RCSIP) set up for community service opportunities, and its fairly simple to get involved. I've been to a wide variety of clinics and done everything from working with immigrant patients to performing foot exams and providing new shoes to the homeless population. On top of that, Rush students are assigned a preceptor for the first 2 years, where we travel to a clinic and work with a primary care physician. Rumor has it some of my classmates have already done small procedures like vaccinations and Pap smears?? Pretty awesome. I personally love having an excuse to coo at babies every other week.

And then, of course, my classmates are all pretty fantastic. And most of the professors are pretty awesome, too, not gonna lie.

In terms of the new curriculum, the blocks are working out pretty well. We've had cell/molecular bio, immuno/hematology, and are currently on musculoskeletal. Each block has general lectures that cover a wide range of applicable material (eg: right now, we have anatomy and physiology lectures, that are laced with biochem and other things that we learned in earlier blocks). Lectures usually occur in the mornings, and the afternoons are reserved for things like Histology lab and small group workshops. Anatomy just started for us, and we are doing it by system. In terms of grading, you'll have a few graded assignments and/or quizzes throughout the block (that are really not a huge deal... no stress), and then one exam at the end of the block. While its stressful because its the bulk of your grade, I prefer this because you don't have this "finals" week where you have a bunch of exams to study for.

There's also a component called physicianship, where we have interjected lectures on things like different patient populations, preventive medicine, development, etc. and have one exam on that at the end of the semester. Along with this grade are the simulated patient interviews (which are really no big deal--we're all assigned in groups to a behavioral scientist who preps us and analyzes our videos to help us improve our patient interaction and interview skills).

I realize I typed a lot, and I'm hoping that you'll find at least some of this helpful! I guess the take away point is that Rush is an awesome place and you all should come here :) Feel free to ask any questions to any of us students that post here. Good luck!!

I can totally empathize with that, but hang in there! It will be worth it =)

And congratulations again to you all with interviews! I hope you enjoy the day as much as I did.

thanks to the students who have offered to answer questions!
are you happy with your choice? any advice for people about rush specifically? do you know anything about the curriculum changes for next year?

sorry for all the questions. im still very excited

UDPremed: you're in for a long wait! All I got in the mail so far was a paper copy of the .pdf they emailed me. I'm hoping for more exciting mail soon.

Tiger: They definitely are private, but the way it was explained was that despite that, they received state grants (or some type of funding) which "encouraged" them to produce a significant number of physicians from in state, but now, since IL is broke, they are free to do whatever they want. It's possible that I misunderstood something, but I'm pretty sure that's what was said.

Oasis: you rock my socks! thanks so much for taking the time to respond -- totally made my morning!
