Anyone on upper or middle third willing to post their stats? Just trying to figure things out. I did everything they asked me too and I'm in the same place. Thanks.

middle third. i'm okay with that...just glad we finally know where we stand. i read an earlier post that last year 96 people were classified as alternates and 68 were accepted from this list. if this is correct and my calculations are accurate, everyone in the upper and middle bracket were accepted and 4 from the bottom were taken.

let's hope no one wants to go to UAB again this year. lol congrats to everyone who is happy with their position, and apologies to those who aren't.

i don't mind. 25 3.97 tons of extracurricular and shadowing. i feel like i had a good interview as well, guess the mcat slimmed my chances a bit.

Upper Third

Upper third

IS/27/3.75 tons of extras, interviews went well, also a reapplicant and was waitlisted last year lower third

Anyone else not get an email/change of status? I assume that is a rejection?

Do you guys think the upper third is a reasonably safe place to be in terms of ultimately gaining acceptance?

Ive been trying to find info on this too. All I can seem to find is that in the previous few cycles the first tier cleared out, and I know last year they made into the bottom third. So I'm trying to feel comfortable, but I dont think I really will be able to until I get in (if I get in). How do they notify us off the waitlist, phonecall or email?:xf:

Upper third.
IS/3.5/35Q. I have 200ish hours of clinical experience and shadowing and lots of non-medical work too...

there were more than 4 off the lower 1/3 last year accepted. i'm pretty sure it was around half of the 3rd tier. i was probably the last person accepted last year. i got in 7/23, a few days before school started. congrats to those of you on the top and middle tiers. for those of you on the bottom tier, don't give up hope. you still have a pretty good chance.

Congrats Ditto! I came on this thread just to see where you were. I got the dreaded OOS rejection last week but since we interviewed at several of the same schools, I wanted to hear your outcome.

Thanks Ladydoc!! I'm really excited! Honestly, I thought I was going to hear bad news from UAB. Sorry about your rejection. 🙁 Did you end up getting in some where?

Just from my experience last year, I think it's a very good chance that people in the upper third will get an acceptance. The e-mail says that the class is not over subscribed so the minute someone drops UAB will start going through the waitlist. Last year, they got through the entire first tier by the end of April.

Also, if anyone is interested here are my stats from last year and this year. Keep the faith if you're in the bottom tier, but start planning for next application cycle.

2010: IS/uGPA 3.4/gradGPA 3.7/ MCAT 26

2011: IS (after jumping through hoops)/uGPA 3.4/gradGPA 3.7/Post-bac 4.0/ MCAT 31

I also had a paper published this year, had an oral and poster presentation at two different conferences, increased my volunteer hours, and started shadowing a family care physician on a regular basis.

I thought I'd update our list. Sorry if I missed anyone.

Were you in the first round of interviews after the Early Decision applicants or were you an Early Decision applicant?

Hey Ditto, I was wondering where you found that information in the email?

I know how you feel (minus waiting since august). I feel like South is pretty much my last hope for this year. Hopefully the waitlist will start moving at South soon.

Hey Ditto, I was wondering where you found that information in the email?

It's in my second paragraph.

"While your specific place on the list will not be revealed, we can inform you that you are in the upper third of the Alternate List. In recent past years many individuals ranked at this level have gained an acceptance. The class is not over-subscribed and as accepted applicants withdraw, individuals will be accepted from the Alternate List."

Gracias!

Hi all. Spot should open up soon. I'm about 95% decided to withdraw my acceptance from UAB but I'm waiting for April 15 for financial aid packages to come out. I'm sure there are lots of other people in the same boat.

Middle Third. 27/4.0 lots of shadowing and clinical work. MCAT brought me down a lot.

probably will end up withdrawing my app and going to South.

upper third (31/3.7/ IS)

Thought I had a good interview.

I know 1 other upper third, 2 middle thirds, 1 lower third.

Don't know if any are on sdn/ have posted already though.

I did get in elsewhere. Thank you!

As soon as someone hears of someone getting in off of the upper third, please let all of us know. Month 7 of waiting is going to be the hardest.

Someone I know got in off the upper third today. Nice to see it already moving!

that's really great news to see the list already moving. let's keep updating this forum with all the information that we know! seems to keep the guessing down a bit.

best of luck everyone.

Since I have been stalking this forum for a while, 😛 I figured I should sign up and let you guys know if I hear of anyone getting in off the waitlist, because I too am stuck on the waitlist! Good luck to you all!!

This is absolutely excruciating. When did you start seeing significant movement from the upper third last year?

I am new to this forum but wanted to stay informed on students being accepted off the alternate list
I am in the upper 1/3 of the list and I am nervously waiting to hear something

What exactly is excruciating about knowing you have about a 95% chance of getting into UAB? If I were you, I wouldn't even be worrying about when I got in. I'd be making plans to attend assuming UAB is your first choice for med school.

I don't mean to seem like I am worrying too much or ungrateful for being in the position that I am.

I don't mean to seem like I am worrying too much or ungrateful for being in the position that I am. Without giving out too much personal information, I am enrolled in two more classes than I need to graduate. I took them in case I needed to raise my gpa for reapplication. The drop deadline is coming up, and I would really like to save money.

you dont have to explain yourself for worrying, we all are...im upper third too and im on the edge of my seat because as long as we are waiting there is still a chance we arent getting in (worrying = rational), hopefully we see some movement this week!

Hey all, I'm a first year here at UAB. Just wanted to drop in and say good luck. For all the upper and middle tier folks out there, yall should feel cautiously optimistic. As I am sure you know, they have made it completely through the upper and middle tiers for the past couple of years. Most importantly, try to relax and enjoy your last couple of months of undergrad and summer. If yall have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

How do you like the curriculum?

AUpremed22 -Which tier are you in?
alienshards - Have you figured out if your 4 people are SDNers? Either way let us know when you hear of there acceptance.

Have I left anyone out? Obviously, the more complete we can make this list, the more we will know what is going on(see TullyMars' excellent detective work from last year!)

No, don't really know if the people I know are SDNers. They're (mostly) all BME majors at UAB though, so if there aren't any of those on SDN then they're unique instances. I'll let you guys know of acceptances though.

(found out about another upper third as well though).

Heard through the grapevine of someone getting in this past friday or so off the waitlist. Don't know if it's the one we already know or not. (my friend's mom's friend's son... so yea)
