Hey all - how long do you think is reasonable to wait before contacting the office of admissions if you haven't gotten any contact at all? My AMCAS was verified mid june.

i got my welcome email on the 13th but haven't gotten a secondary yet, but no rejections either. anyone else in the same boat?

I am. Welcome on the 15th, nothing since. I'm OOS though, and a very marginal candidate for UCSF. It's gonna be a looooong 12 weeks! :xf:

nvm...I just got the initial email

same I also got the initial email. now to wait for the secondary invite :xf:

if you log into the applicant status check, this is what the message says if you are still being reviewed/waiting to be invited:

Thank you for applying to the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. We have received your AMCAS application.
Our Admissions Committee will carefully review your application. We expect you will hear from the committee any time between now and about twelve weeks from now. Invitations to submit a secondary application will be sent after this review is completed. No additional information is needed at this time, and in fact, additional information cannot be added to your file during this review.
You will be notified of updates to your application via email and also on this site. Please check back regularly and feel free to explore the UCSF website in more detail.

My AMCAS was verified on 07/19 and I still haven't received a welcome email. Should I be worried/contact them?

I'm with ya. Here's to hoping we both get past the screen!

My AMCAS was verified 7/14 and I just received the welcome email last night. I would give it another week or so, and then you could contact them if you're still concerned.

I got 2 welcome emails? but nothing since. I'm OOS so not expecting much.

So I'm just wondering, it used to be that UCSF didn't actually get to see our LORs until the secondary submission (because the AMCAS letter forwarding service only started in 2010 or maybe 2009). So it could be said that the LORs were the basis for picking the 500/1500 they chose to invite for an interview.

So the question is, now that they have our complete app before them even before they request secondaries, and considering that there's no new information provided with them, on what basis will they winnow the 1500 secondaries down to 500?

Put a different way, why send 1500 secondary invites? Why not just about 600 (adjusting for people who wont complete the secondaries)? Is it for fee collection? Is it because the people who decide to send out the secondaries are office workers and not adcom members? Is it because contrary to my assumption, most people who applied here don't already have their LORs on file with AMCAS?

Any thoughts?

I seem to recall that you and I have similar reasons for applying here. My fiance lives in the City and can't relocate. Otherwise I have absolutely no business applying to UCSF with my stats. 😱 It sounds like UCSF does a pretty thorough and holistic review, and I've heard that they like eclectic weirdos. So I remain delusionally hopeful! :xf:

Two emails? Are you sure they were both welcomes, not a welcome + secondary? What does your online status page say?

I was wondering about this, from the standpoint that I've already attached my committee packet of letters to my app. I am not sure if I was supposed to not attach it to UCSF yet, if that's some kind of no-no. 😳

Either way, I don't think they have the resources to actually read letters for all 6500+ applicants. I see the primary -> secondary cut as necessary so that they know which 1500 applicants' letters to actually slog through.

I was verified 6/25 and just got the "welcome" e-mail last night. I'd wait a while before contacting them.

just got my secondary invite!
in state, 28S, 3.86sGPA

i would never have imagined i can get a secondary from this school..at least they are giving me a chance!! even though i might not end up with an interview, but i am still happy and grateful =)

Damned bastards...

does anyone know how ucsf does the pre-secondary screen? (ie do they read the personal statements)

I'm wondering if anyone knows this as well? I got the secondary right away last cycle but didn't get it this time yet at all. Stats are better this time around too. Weird.

I think it has something to do with swirling the tea leaves in a thousand-year-old cup. The other part involves throwing a stack of applications up in the air and a three-year-old wearing a blindfold.

Some people score an instant automatic secondary invite based on numbers. The trend seems to be high numbers however it's not just a simple algorithm, since there are plenty of people with high numbers who don't get this auto-screen in.

The rest of the secondary invites are the result of human review, so I would presume this includes everything in the primary app.

i got the welcome email 7/13... still waiting on a secondary. would it be reasonable to call them to ask whats going on?

No, it wouldn't really be reasonable since they state review can take up to 12 weeks. I would call after 12 weeks.

Also I thought I sounded kinda terse or something in my original post! Didn't want to come off that way, but just be patient. They have to manually review these things so it is bound to take a while. I'm in the same boat and haven't received a secondary from them either.

This. If you read through last year's thread the majority of people (who didn't get the magic autosecondary) waited at least a month, and a few had to wait the full 12 weeks.

I'd hate to nag them and encourage them to rush through my application. I'd much rather prefer that they take their sweet time giving me a nice thorough holistic review. 😀

It's been pretty quiet in here. Just waiting patiently for that secondary to arrive. :xf::xf:

I just got the secondary. The email just said:

did you just get the welcome email pretty recently?

For those still waiting on a secondary, I got one today (8/3). Submitted AMCAS on 6/1 and got first email on 7/15. Stats are 40+ and 3.9+ (I don't think they screen strictly based on numbers). Hope it helps, and good luck.

They may not..or they thought you were just "too good" for UCSF with those stats. Good job on those kickass stats though, in all seriousness!

for the address they want under payment, should it be the address listed on the credit card account? i assume so (and not your current address if it's different) but i just wanted to make sure.

Yep! Like with all credit cards, the address listed must match the address listed on the credit card's account.

how many people have gotten secondaries?

if you've gotten it, do you have access to the md/phd essay prompts?

Could someone please post the prompts??

Ask again if you want MSTP too; the application is pretty long so I haven't posted it here.

My AMCAS was verified this morning (8/5) and I received the auto secondary 20 minutes ago.

I'm an IS URM so that might explain why certain people get auto-secondaries lol.

I wish! I'm an IS URM, verified by AMCAS mid-June, received welcome email last week and still waiting on secondary. My stats aren't quite yours though, congrats floppy!

Maybe it's alphabetical? My last name is at the beginning of the alphabet.

I'm pretty sure they didn't even look at my application since I was screened on the same day. I'm sure you'll be hearing soon, too!

Is it even worth sending my AMCAS to UCSF with an MCAT score of 28? I was looking at the MSAR and it said UCSF did not accept anyone with a score lower than like a 30 or something. I am just wondering if this is correct?

still waiting on SF, got the initial email over a month ago I think
