has anyone who interviewed on Sep 17th received any news? Today was suppossed to be the day....

LadyLoe: I did not receive any news and I interviewed on the 17th with you. My friend has not either and she was checking all day. I have not heard from another friend who was also there that day, and he's the type that would let me know either way, but it's also fall break for us so he could be away from his computer!

Didn't they say we would hear unless something went really, really wrong because we were to have gone into committee on the 1st?

Sorry for the delay in response. Have not been on studentdoc for a while.

I'm OOS and I was complete in August and got the invite at the end of September.

do mind sharing if you are you IS or OOS?

Just checked my status and accepted! It updated about an hour ago. Interviewed on 9/17. Good luck to everybody!

Just checked and got on the alternate list :\....

Does anyone know how the alternate list works again? I wasn't paying too much attention when he talked about it. Is is possible to get accepted off the alternate list before Spring?

Just called the admissions office. They said that the alternate list is the waitlist and that it is unranked (or at least confidential) until May when it will be reviewed again. She said they may or may not release where on this list you are in May but they haven't decided that yet.

Blegh...

"Because acceptances are offered on a rolling basis throughout the year, we will continue to review your credentials for further consideration."

The nice message seems to imply that they would keep reviewing...but I guess not.

Thanks!!! I actually don't really know when I was complete because my letters took forever. I am from Ohio and my parents live there, but I am technically considered out of state. Sorry... I am absolutely no help!

Is the site down for everyone else? I just got the email saying my status has changed but the page won't load. Talk about suspense...

I did as well, but I got the alternate list :/. I'm OOS, but do they not accept you off this list until May at the earliest?

BTW, congrats sml!

I wouldn't worry too much right now. For another school I interviewed at, I was accepted a whole week later than everyone else who interviewed on the same day. Just because you haven't heard back does not necessarily mean bad news 🙂

You are perfectly logical. But another part of me is like, "DON'T THEY LIKE MEEEEEEE???????"

Any other 10/08 interviewees with decisions? This is the third week and I'm so anxious it hurts.

I interviewed 10/08 and I'm still waiting too. You're not alone.

Is there a match list for cincinnati anywhere?
Also, is there some sort of university shuttle that goes to the airport?

thanks!

Is anybody else just pressing F5 all day today? Does anyone know when the decisions get posted?

I've been checking my email all day today in between classes. Nothing yet. My friend is a first year at UC and he said he's pretty sure they send out decisions once a week. But a) this may not be true and b) if it is, I can't tell what day that was/is.

Sorry, I was basically zero help there, haha. 🙄

Oh well, thanks anyway! I've literally just wasted my entire day waiting to hear back from them. 🙁

From my understanding during the admissions lecture, Dr. Manuel forwards any followup letters from candidates (if they have important information) on the Thursday of the week following the interview. The admissions committee then discusses those candidates the week following that, and results are posted live as they update them online (which might be on a Thursday or a Friday I suppose) - and you get an email saying there has been a change in your status.

10/08 interview, 10/28 acceptance!! Today is the best day ever.

AllDayAP-

I'm from Cincinnati (didn't attend UC, however). Airport is in N. Kentucky and I have never seen a UC shuttle go there. The public bus services the airport once every hour...took that once and will never take it again. Short answer is get a cab or stay in a hotel that has an airport van.

Got the news this morning, waitlisted. For the second time, ahhh!

Congrats to everyone who got in!

Dr. Manuel mentioned that they see an appreciable bit of waitlist movement, although he wouldn't describe it as huge or anything.

Hi everyone,

I have a HUGE favor to ask of anyone who is interviewing at Cincinnati on Friday, November 5. I got an interview invite on October 15, but due to procrastination, busyness, and general extreme stupidity :smack:, I didn't look into hotels until much later than I should have. It turns out that there are no more rooms available at Holmes on Eden (the hotel adjacent to the University hospital), which is by far my preferred location, on that date. I've booked the considerably more expensive Marriott Kingsgate for now, but I'm really strapped for cash and would much prefer the alternative.

If any of you are staying at Holmes on the night of Nov. 4 - Nov. 5, I was wondering whether you might be willing to share a room with an extra bed. My fiancée stayed at Holmes for her October 8 interview, and she was able to ask the hotel staff for an extra bed so that her parents could stay too (Holmes is essentially a converted hospital, so they have plenty of additional wheely-beds). I would be more than happy to pay the complete room fee of ~$50 if you are willing to accommodate me. In addition, I am a senior at Washington University in St. Louis who has already interviewed at SLU and WashU, and I would be more than happy to share my experiences and answer any questions about those schools. 👍

I realize that I am making this request rather late, and that you may not feel comfortable sharing a room with a stranger. However, I am quite desperate, do not have any acquaintances in the area, and live too far away to drive safely. I promise that I am quiet, organized, have minimal belongings, and will treat you with the utmost of respect. If you can help me, know of anyone else who can help, or even have helpful advice to offer, I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this rather long message. If you would prefer to message me in private, you can reach me at ([email protected]). Please feel free to ask me any questions about St. Louis or the medical schools here, and best of luck for the rest of the interview season!! :luck:

Does anyone know of any good restaurants that are in walking distance from the campus? Thanks! 🙂

Hello, everyone.

It seems that you pre-meds have been left to fend for yourselves in the Cincinnati thread. I'll try to answer any questions that you may have about the interviews, the school, and the immediate surrounding area. Unfortunately, 2nd year is quite busy, I'll be popping in and out pretty erratically, so some patience would be needed to get an answer (if no one else is able to answer them).

First, disclaimers:
1. I am a second year student. However, there has been talk that the curriculum will have a very significant overhaul for your incoming class in preparation for the LCME accrediation that is due to come (I believe) next year. I will not be able to answer any questions regarding what your curriculum because of this. (Other than that I am very jealous of your class.) I, however, can talk about medical school facilities for the first two years of medical school.

2. I will not hunt down folks from the adcom to ask about decisions. Sorry, guys, but I'd prefer not to chase adcom folks down. Just know that it never hurts to be proactive and be in touch with the admissions office if you have any questions or concerns.

3. I am not a native of Cincinnati, so I cannot tell you much about what there is to do around here. However, if you're staying around the hospital, if you don't have a car when you come here to interview, and if you don't enjoy hospital food, you'll be walking through some potentially rough neighborhoods to get dinner. Yes, a car is a good thing to have around here if you do decide to come here.

With that said, I hope your applications go well and your acceptances are eventually in the mail. Took me about three times, but I eventually got in.

Congrats to those who have already gotten acceptances. Good luck to those who have yet to hear back.

This. Corner of MLK and Goodman, I believe. 👍

Also, there's a Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds, Gold Star chili (don't go there - Skyline is way better), UDF (which is more of a convenience store but they have ice cream!), and the cafeteria with University Hospital (+ Starbucks) and the cafeterias in Children's Hospital.

The restaurant in the Kingsgate is delicious, too. But a little pricey.

Children's Hospital has good food, but they stop serving their better fares at around 7 or 8 (can't remember exactly), and fast food and salad become the theme until when they close at around 2AM

If you're not a fan of fast food, you can head west on Goodman and keep following the street, which changes names a few times and then eventually becomes Ludlow, and you'll hit a bunch of restaurants, including Skyline, some Indian restaurants, Mexican, Graeter's (best ice cream ever), and a grocery store. The walk is about a mile, and Ludlow is a nicer part of the area in terms of wandering around and "sight-seeing." I, however, wouldn't stay out too late, as the area (at least south of MLK) is known to be a bit dangerous at night.

When I visited, I went to this coffee shop Taza, close to the UC main campus, that I absolutely fell in love with.

Are there good ethnic restaurants in the city? Any good Indian, Thai, Middle Eastern?

I may have to check this place out

There are a good number of ethnic restaurants in the city (Indian, Greek/Mediterranean, etc., Vietnamese) Quality, depends on the tastes of who's eating the food. Of the local restaurants around UC, my tastes have made me deem the Indian food to be quite good. Thai is marginal. Chinese and Japanese food have much to be desired. However, my opinions may be unfair, as I've lived in LA for several years, and I'm sure there are a lot more restaurants up north following I-71 and I-75 which would blow these restaurants out of the water.

The great thing about the area is that there is a lot of variety in the restaurants within a 10-minute driving radius from the medical school if cooking isn't your thing.

Skyline is a bit of a of a duality. Either you like it or you don't. The locals swear by it. I, on the other hand, am from the north, where I'm used to chunky non-soup-like/puree chili, but it's worth trying it out once.

OMG Cincinnati is the BEST for ethnic food. I grew up there and have lived in 4 cities since then ..... and well I still love the Cincinnati restaurants. There is a place called Krishna on the street over from Taza that has fabulous Indian takeout and there is an amazing Indian Restaurant called Ambar that is also really close to campus. There is another coffee shop that is WAY better than Taza. It is called Highlands and is a few minutes from campus. My favorite middle eastern restaurant is downtown and I am sorry, but I forget the name. My favorite mediterranean food place is Andy's Med. Grille and it is on the way downtown from campus. Ummm I could go on forever. There are unlimited options. The only thing you probably won't find too much of is Mexican. Anyways, all the ethnic food is great, but the best thing Cincinnati has to offer is Greater's Ice Cream...it is the best ice cream I have ever had!! Note to anyone interviewing in Cincy that has never had Greater's: YOU MUST GO THERE AND YOU WILL NEVER WANT TO LEAVE CINCINNATI EVER!!! Also, if you do not know too much about Cincinnati, it has a pretty good art/music/cultural scene. Overall, it is a pretty nice city to live. 😀
