Is it possible to apply to one of the tracks after you've been accepted? The UNITE track sounds interesting, but I'm not sure.

It is possible to apply to a track during first year, but the number of spaces is limited to those that aren't already filled. CU-UNITE is a brand new track, so I am not sure how many spots they will have available for each class. If it ends up similar to the Rural Track there will probably be between 12-20. Hope that helps!

I really like the secondary essay topic and its recommended length is also manageable. I can't believe I'm saying this but CU's program has gotten me excited about coming back to the Rocky Mountain region. The new medical campus is incredible. Can't wait to fill out their secondary.

So, it turns out they may have the global health track, after all. The email I just received:

"Thank you for your interest in UCD School of Medicine and especially the global health track. We are dedicated to providing innovative and meaningful experiences in global health, but due to budget constraints and some administrative issues, we are not able to pre-enroll Global Health Track students for the class starting in the Fall of 2011. We do plan to continue the Global Health Track, and are working in various areas to ensure its continuous operation. Assuming that the necessary resources are available, we will interview for GHT positions next fall at the beginning of the school year."

If you live in Colorado, can you please take a quick survey?

I wrote it to improve my understanding of the status of healthcare in Colorado, and hopefully improve my chances of getting into UCSOM.

Tell your friends too. 🙄

Thank you!

It has to do with being sponsored. You can be a sponsored student and the state covers the "sponsor fee." If you accept a non-sponsored spot, then you pay non-sponsored tuition for all four years and a state won't pick up covering that massive fee for you after the first year, and why non-res students can't get in-state later.

So that's how WICHE people get in-state, their state pays that sponsor fee. You can technically be a non-sponsored in-state student if the state can't fund a certain number of spots.

So the 50K cost is really just in-state + the accountable student fee of 25,571$
Accountable Student Support Fee
- Annual fee for students who, upon admission into medical or dental school, will not be receiving funding from the state of Colorado or a cooperative state for any portion of the costs incurred in participating in their training program. (from the SFS page)

How much are your tuition and fees?

Tuition and fees (2010-2011) for Colorado residents is $30,334, and for non-residents, $55,905. Tuition normally increases about 7% per year. (from the admissions FAQ)

Does anybody know if the GI Promise is applicable to medical school too? I know it is for undergrad at UCD but not sure about the medical school. Thanks!

Anyone else submit their application? Kind of worrisome it won't confirm you submitted, but if you click on the application link again the essay is blank and it seems like it'll let you complete it again.

Can someone else ease my mind that it really did go through? I paid and everything. Haha.

Same here, and when I went to log on to the status update page, it said that it didn't recognize my AMCAS ID number. Troubling.

They said the status page won't be working until Sept. 1st. I am calming myself by making sure I still have my fee receipt. They received something.

There has been some talk by the administration recently about increasing the number of OOS students accepted.

Probably because the state of Colorado doesn't fund anything, especially things that would lead to the improvement of society.

OOS=lots of $.

I have already experienced this trend as an undergrad in Boulder.

"THE CU-UNITE Urban track is on the top of my list!! I heard that they only accept 10 students though?? oh man!"

I just thought of something: if I applied to the CU-Unite (and I did), does this mean I only applied to that track, or am I in the running for the main MD program as well??

Yes. This is exactly why. I think the legislature would be okay with giving us more funding but under TABOR, they cannot. You'd have to convince the public that subsidizing medical education with increased taxes is a good idea. Which may be a hard sell given the economy and the historically high level of physician salaries. What I guess they don't realize is the fallout such as that mentioned above: University of Colorado is going to be in a business of educating Californians (for better or worse).

Yes. Your acceptance to the school is independent of any track you may have applied to. You may drop out of a track at any time as long as you have fulfilled your MSA (independent project) requirements.

What's going on peoples? I'm oh-so-patiently awaiting verification of my AMCAS app and wondering what's going on with other CU applicants? I've got my secondary 99% done and am just waiting for the email so I can submit it.

How's everyone else doing? Anyone get an interview yet?

Pretty sure they don't do anything until september. The secondary says to not even check your status until september.

Woo hoo! I'm finally verified!

Quick question about the math requirement for CU. Their web site says they require 6 semester hours of college-level math (algebra and above)... Do you think statistics would count? AMCAS counted my statistics class as "MATH" for GPA calculation, but I'm not sure whether that class would also help satisfy the CU math requirement.

I'm pretty sure stats counts as above algebra. 🙂

I'm pretty sure stats counts as above algebra.

I hope so, though the only pre-req for that class was high school algebra. I went ahead and emailed CU so hopefully should know soon.:xf:

Hey guys, for those of you applying to CU-UNITE Urban Track, when you wrote your essay, did you separate each section as the prompts were given, like A, B, C, D... or write them all together in one big essay form? Thanks!

I wrote mine in one big essay form. I believe you must answer all parts of the question in the 2,500 character limit.

So September 1st is here.

I was able to check my status. Has anyone heard anything else? I heard the first interview dates were supposed to be late September, so hopefully there will be news soon.

I just got my secondary and the email said it has to be done in one sitting, does that mean as soon as I open it I have to do it or just that there is no "save" option!?

Thanks all! 😉

searchthesky,

I went ahead and separated my sections into A,B,C, D.

Unlike Panda, I answered all four questions in under 2,500 words. The instructions were confusing. In one section is says to limit each essay to 2,500 characters. However, if you read further along in the CU-UNITE application instructions, it mentions completing all 4 essays in less than 2,500 words. I just followed the latter instructions.

Woo hoo! My app is finally complete and I am happy that my relatively late submittal does not seem to be lagging too far behind... I don't think they've granted any interviews yet, though I'm guessing that will be happening very soon.

:xf:

Best of luck everyone... Keep us updated!

Does anyone have any advice for the main essay (the one posted at the beginning of this thread)? I feel that I would probably answer part B, since none of my hardships are really all that significant, but if anyone has advice, I would appreciate it. Perhaps I am reading too much into the question.

Thanks all, and good luck 🙂

Is anyone able to check their status yet, or does it still give the error message? I'm still getting the error message.

Definitely do B. I have heard adcoms from CU say that doing B does not lower your chances. In fact, trying to force an answer for part A would be much, much worse for your chances.

I was able to look at my status. You may want to try again and possibly contact them about that.

Hello all, I wanted to check the status of my application but don't recall being issued a password or creating one...Any help would be appreciated.

NM the password was hiding in the original email. Thanks!

Completed 09/03. Hoping to be included in the first round of interviews. Good luck everyone!

The username and password were in your Secondary Application request (original email). They were imbedded in the paragraph following the link to the secondary application. Username is your AMCAS number and a unique password follows.

Anyone know when interviews start?

Should be any day now, I'm guessing.

Back in July, they said that the first interviews were going to be sent out Sept. 1st.

I'm guessing that did not happen since we have heard nothing on this board.

Hopefully soon, especially if one of the invites is for me!

CU is my one and only school so I'm holding my breath and crossing my :xf:.

Good luck everyone!

There doesn't seem to be a lot of people on this thread but I hope to hear about good news of an interview from someone soon. I really want to know where they are in the process. :xf::xf: Really hoping I get an interview too!

Good luck everyone! CU is an amazing school and has a fantastic program.

I heard that CU would like to start interviewing applicants around Sept. 24 but hasn't started issuing invitations yet because the interviewers have not signed up for all the available slots. The interview slots were made available about a week ago, and the interviewers, some of whom are community physicians, will have to free their schedules and sign up for the slots before CU can invite applicants to interview. CU doesn't want to be in the position of having applicants show up without someone to interview them.

Also, for those of you interested in the Global Health track, it is currently unavailable due to lack of funding. I don't know the nature of the funding shortfall, but Colorado's state government has had to make cuts to higher education, and this may be one of the casualties. It may be offered to incoming students if funding can be secured.

I heard a very similar thing today when I was at the school for a premed event.

First interviews will be Sept. 24th, and the first batch of invites should be sent out within a week.

Interview invite today at 4:45 by email for 9/24, sweet! They kept their word 😉

Congrats jcwhitts! Me too, I'll see you on the 24th then 🙂 I am hoping it won't be any trouble to get work off that day on such short notice. Sooo excited!!!

Just got an interview invitation this morning!!! sweeeeet I am so stoked! I was completed a while back like in august. Good luck to everyone! :luck:

Just got an interview invitation yesterday. Will be interviewing on 10/15.

Interview invite today, though it isn't until November. It's on a Saturday though which is best for me, except I'll be missing a football game.

do any of the lucky few chosen to interview so far care to share stats? Thanks
