Yep!! Just minutes ago!!!

Trying my best to hold in the tears of joy b/c I'm at work right now.

COngrats. I would give my right arm to be in your position. When did you interview?

Oh and how did you find out? According to last year's thread, seems that people mostly did via email.

Interviewed 10/26. Heard by E-mail, which arrived at exactly 11:49.

CONGRATS!! I'm so happy for you!! So we'll be classmates then? I'm still waiting to hear from a couple other schools, but I've also maybe-kind-of-sort-of started looking at apartments in Worcester online so it's probably a done deal for me...I just love Umass so much and the tuition is fabulous.

Anyway, congrats!

😍

Still waiting to hear from a few schools as well... but an exceptionally low tuition is pretty difficult to turn down. 🙁.

I actually lived in Worcester for a few months for work, it's pretty easy to find a nice apartment for cheap. My uncle lives a few minutes drive away from UMass... maybe I should start kissing up to him to let me stay with him. ^_^

Ditto with the tuition. When I saw the tuition at other schools I almost choked while comparing to UMASS (Most are about 5 times more) so UMASS remains my number one just for this.

Oooo... could I start kissing up to him to let ME stay with him? Lol. Yeah, I've heard its not too hard to find something decent, and hopefully it won't be too hard to find roommates to share the cost with. My parents live about 45 minutes away from Worcester but I don't think I'd want to make that commute every day.

Yea I live an hour away and if I were to go here, there is no way in hell I would commute. I would def move. It seems to me that most students there drive which is a good thing because I will sell my car when hell freezes over.

Alright. I interviewed middle of Nov so I guess i still got some waiting to do. Do you mind sharing your stats?

I PM'ed you my stats but it didn't show up in my "sent items" so if for some reason it didn't go through, let me know. Best of luck!! Just distract yourself for a while and you'll hear good news from them in no time.

I can't say that I have a clear "Number One" right now. My top 3 schools each have their strong and weak points. Before I started interviewing, UMass was my #1 based on tuition, but then I found out that DMS gives pretty good fin aid and that UWashington gives in-state tuition after the 1st year. On top of that, UW is #1 in primary care, which is something I'm certain I want to go into. Having gotten accepted to Umass, it'll hurt a little less if things do not work out for those other schools.

Can't believe this, I have an interview tomorrow and I found out about it last Thursday.
The invite email went straight to my junk mail box and I totally didn't know about it.
So I guess that puts things a bit more into perspective. I was ready to go somewhere a bit warmer for med school but the tuition is too good here in UMass for me to not take the interview

Ditto! Just hit the "Accept" button today on the website.

Congrats Bulldog! I know how much you love this school and nothing is more awesome than getting your top choice! See you next year 🙂

Haha, I remember being glued to the screen when I knew the first batch of interviews were being sent out. When I realized I wasn't selected, I thought my life was over.

Give me a break! That's f'ing stupid.

I like to go with "neurotic". In case you haven't noticed, a lot of premeds, especially SDN'ers, like to exaggerate and be dramatic. I was disappointed, sure, but I was also hopeful that I would get in eventually.

Haha, yeah you are definitely not alone and do not have to justify yourself. And CONGRATS!! I remember you were really passionate about UMass earlier in the season so its great to see everything worked out for you!

Any activity today? It seems like Friday mornings have been the time when people get notified.

Hey Guys, I was complete in mid septebmer and interviewed on 10/26 (the same day as Bulldog) but I have not heard anything back yet. I was thinking about sending an update letter so I can show my enthusiasm for the school and let them know about new information, but I had a couple questions first. Most importantly, I'm not really sure where to send the letter...should the letter be addressed to the lady who assigned the interviews? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I would send it to the lady who assigns the interviews, she seems to handle a lot of the admissions documents (like thank-you letters). I'm just an applicant too, so don't necessarily take my word for it, it's just what I would probably do if I were to send one.

Don't fret about not hearing though -- I interviewed in mid-november and have yet to hear anything. When I went there to interview I talked with a first-year and she told me that she interviewed in September and didn't hear one word from UMass until March.

On a different note, I asked 3 separate first-year students what they liked about UMMS and not one of them could think of something other than "the price"...at every other school I've interviewed at the students go on and on and on about how much they loved their school, but at UMMS the students didn't seem to be thrilled. Hopefully I just got a poor student sample.

GL everyone.

Oh so quiet....

here's to hoping for some news Friday.:xf:

Just got an email. ACCEPTED!!!!!!!. My number one has shown me love.

I got accepted today too. Just got the email although it went out yesterday.

Yay! Congrats! Probably we'll be classmates!!

@everyone

Just out of curiosity how would you rank Umass among other schools in Mass? Is Umass your top choice categorically? I'm asking because I was lucky enough to get accepted into another Mass school just a few days ago and I'm feeling some real doubt, whereas before I got this acceptance I was so sure I was going to Umass. It's driving me a little crazy (not that it was a far trip for me 😀)

wow congrats to those accepted! I interviewed in Sept and am dying to hear back!

me personally, it'd be harvard>bu>umass>tufts

If you're talking about BU, then I think we're in similar shoes. If money wasn't an issue, I'd go to BU over UMass. In any case, I think I'm sending deposits to both schools and slowly make my decision in the upcoming months.

Btw, CONGRATS!!!

I got accepted today too. Just got the email although it went out yesterday.

CONGRATS!!! I Know you were really anxious about hearing back from them. Also, we both interviewed on the same day so you'll be one of the few faces I recognize at their event in the Spring (I'm sure some other from our interview date will get in as well) .

I think the students were kind of joking with you. Umass is the **** - people here are really happy and laid back compared to the other schools I know people at. The price is kind of the equivalent to getting into med school AND winning the lottery so people tend to be pretty excited about it 😛

and...CONGRATS to those accepted!!!

forgot to add that ; )

Umass was my #1 from the start but there are so many great people, so many awesome opportunities- umass really is the ish 😀

oh so jealous!

congrats

Thanks!!!

CONGRATS!!! 🙂. Are you withdrawing everywhere else?

Thanks. I will not be withdrawing from anywhere yet although there are some interviews that I will not be attending. However, UMASS is very tops for me. The only thing that would make me not go there would be if I got into harvard or got some crazy package at another school in MA.
I got accepted today too. Just got the email although it went out yesterday.

Congrats to you my friend.

As a UMMS student, I can tell you there is far more to it than the price. Granted, that's going to be the scripted response from the vast majority of students here because it is a HUGE draw. We're talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars in lifetime savings. It is to be expected that we'd rave about that.

But as other people in here have said, the students are incredibly intelligent, friendly, and down to earth. The curriculum is such that the students genuinely want to help each other and not beat each other. I can't tell you how many times people have sent out study guides, silly mnemonics, helped each other out in the library, etc. When people go to bars, go to boston, go to NYC, go skiing, etc., the email invite is almost always sent out to the whole class to meetup. There are class soccer, hockey, and basketball teams that play in a rec league. The first years had a holiday party at some student's house that the freakin Chancellor showed up at to rub elbows. You won't find that at any other med school. Also the administration/faculty seem to really care about what we students want and our happiness. These are a handful of pro-UMass qualities.

Oh and for people worried about location Boston vs. Worcester or anywhere vs. Worcester: You'll be studying so much that it won't make any difference at all. There are bars/fun places to chill in Worcester. If you really want to go do it big in Boston it really isn't that hard. It's like 45 min away. Plus there is a silver lining as the diversity of patient population is incredible here considering the radius that solely UMMS serves.

I would second this too! The price is freaking amazing for medical school, but it's not just the price, it's what you get for the price. UMass is a very respected medical school, and maybe the reason why some couldn't get a good answer about the best part of UMass is because there's too many to choose from haha. I'm not saying UMass is perfect, but it really fosters a great learning environment, and the students are great. The majority of faculty are also very dedicated to teaching. The new curriculum obviously is a concern for some, but the faculty takes student feedback very seriously, and they definitely try to incorporate changes when they can. Plus there are literally tons of opportunities to shadow, join interest groups, volunteer at the free clinics, learn outside the classroom setting, and get involved with administrative side of the school.

Coming from a ridiculously cut throat undergrad school with a relatively apathetic faculty, I am so relieved and grateful that I'm at UMass. I do understand that UMass may not be for everyone and maybe Tufts or BU has something that UMass doesn't. And a lot of the time these differences may be worth the extra tuition. I think this is why second look days were made and are a great idea to check out. It sucks to have to put down a deposit at multiple schools but the deposit is nothing compared to what you'll be paying for the next four years and it allows you to explore schools without too much stress and make the right decision for what you want and expect out of medical school

I'm an MD/PhD applicant who unfortunately did not finish her application until late November. I haven't heard anything from them at all and was wondering if anyone knows anything about the MD/PhD invites, acceptances, etc?

Thanks!

Yeah I applied to the MD school, but only completed my secondary late October/Novermberish and so far haven't heard a thing... any word on if theyre still accepting students..? I'm starting to discover the hard way that no matter what a school says, theyre really all "rolling" admissions... applying late sucks 🙁

They have yet to accept the great majority of their class. UMMS is notoriously slow in selecting who they would like, partly to thats just how they work and partly to having their hands tied by massachusetts law. Applying late does put somebody at a disadvantage, but you will definitely be reviewed and given consideration. Welcome to the wonderful world of waiting.

Oh well that makes me feel better 🙂 thanks! I applied to like 10 schools - late - and have 1 interview so far haha... Fun

interview invite today!

I'm a reapp who was complete back in July but had an interview last year. I was thinking they must have really hated me last time to not give me another interview but I guess I wasn't that bad.

My interview is for 2/2 in the afternoon. I'm so excited. Now I just need to get back into interview mindset after being out of it for awhile.

Congrats. Good luck on your interview. Supposedly we met at Drexel but I'm not certain I figured out who you were.

Rejected pre-interview.

3.35/31S, complete sometime in July or August.

Hey guys, I have a question about the pre-requisite courses for UMass. I was recently accepted and sent my transcript to the office the other day. I figured since I had made it this far in the process I must have completed the pre-reqs, but when I checked online about what they were, the website said that "Course work in these areas must be completed within the last six years". I am a non-traditional applicant and I graduated in 2007, which means that many of the courses that satisfy the pre-reqs were taken more than 6 years ago. Is it a possibility that I will have to re-take classes or not be allowed to attend?

Thanks!
