If you are on the waitlist, do you need to send anything other than a FAFSA for financial aid? If so does anybody know the deadlines?

Are any of you attending Revisit Day? I'm going to the stuff from 11-4 but unfortunately can't make the reception from 5-7

Anyone know how receptive the admission office is to LOI?

I heard through the grapevine that Associate Dean White said not to... I was also tempted because U of M was my first choice, but I didn't per others' recommendations. Write some nice thank you letters and cross your fingers!

I'm going! Excited for it and meeting some of you! 🙂 I don't think you'll miss much at the reception except cash bar? Lol! See ya soon!

I'm going to even though I'm already 100% sure I'm going to Minnesota. It's going to be awesome visiting Minnesota this time knowing that I'm accepted and not having to stress and wear that horrible suit. I'm super excited! (FREE FOOD!)

Got the call today! Interviewed 1/21. Best wishes to those still waiting to hear.

Has anyone heard about financial aid? or scholarships? I got a very small merit based scholarship with my acceptance letter and have been waiting to hear something more since I sent in the scholarship app.

Ditto. $2000 for you too? Not enough to hold weight in the decision-making process.

How was second look?[/QUOT

Hi, it wasn't really anything too special, imo. A lot of sitting and listening. Student panels and faculty panel, lunch, intro to student organizations, the case study was really fun! Saw the nice frat house. I'm gonna just stay in my apt. Overall, I got a really 'chill campus vibe from faculty and students.

I was told to call the financial aid office in late April. At that point they said they will have a good estimate of your financial package. They won't actually finalize it until after the May 15th decision deadline.

yeah it think it was that or $1800, i'd have to look at the letter again. exactly, not enough to hold much weight, but it would be nice to find out the whole package before I decide :/

Just withdrew my acceptance. Good luck to whoever gets my spot!🙂

Does anyone have an update on when the wait list rankings will be sent for the Duluth campus? This has been such a long, painful wait!

Never mind, the update letters were sent on the 12th!

It's been awhile since any acceptances/waitlists have been posted. Have any March interviewees heard back yet?

Lol, I interviewed in February and they told me I would find out through the mail this week, but I still haven't got it.

Has anyone heard anything re: the wait-list for the TC campus? When are they sending letters, etc??

I interviewed 3/7 and still have not heard anything from U of M!! Hang in there... there are bound to be others in our boat!

I interviewed 3/11 and just got the waitlist letter today 🙁. I loved MN! Here's to hoping for a high rank on the alternate list :xf:.

It's a bummer to see the article because I think it will change student's thoughts about attending the U of M...I still want to go there though. It's a great school regardless of the current financial situation.

Financial troubles and the fact that we are having 30 degree weather in May might make someone think twice about matriculating at UMN.

Sent in a withdrawal e-mail but I have not received a confirmation yet. OOS with a "OOS tuition difference" scholarship. I hope my spot/scholarship (in the event there are any OOSers without one) goes to an SDNer! Good luck!

I spoke to the office of admissions today. Waitlist letters went out yesterday. Good luck everyone!

Thanks! Good to know there's one more spot open for an OOS student like me! 🙂

This probably doesn't help either. Keeps getting better and better.

All U of M staff members received the following e-mail today:Response to Recent Medical School Headlines

May 6, 2011

Dear colleagues,

As we enter a period of time of celebration at the University with students completing degree programs, and moving towards practice in the health professions, I’d like to pause to share with you my concerns over an inaccurate and unfair depiction of our Medical School that appeared in the Sunday newspaper.

I’ve learned in my five months in the role of Vice President for Health Sciences and Dean of the Medical School that we all carry a wide range of perceptions about what is or is not taking place within our complex organization, but I want to assure you that the Medical School remains on solid footing, and is very well positioned to continue its missions of education, research, and patient care as it has for 154 years.

Words matter and the choice of language used in the newspaper included terms that make implications or judgments that are simply wrong and lead to unfair conclusions.

- It states that there’s no search for a new Chair of Medicine because of money. Not true. We’re not searching because we have a Chair of Medicine, one who serves the Department and Medical School admirably.
- The story states there’s a decline in federal research funding—not in the Medical School or the University overall. Simply not true for the U of M.
- The statement that there was an “internal loan” is inaccurate. I can assure you that CFO Pfutzenreuter transferred no funds to the Medical School. Instead, the Dean’s office assumed responsibility to re-allocate up to $2.3M across the school and its 25 departments to balance accounts school wide over the next seven years.
- A $10 million budget gap was called “withering”, when that’s less than 1.75% of the overall $570 million budget, within the $3.5 billion University. Really?
- The Biomedical Discovery District remains a significant priority, with construction proceeding on the Cancer-Cardio building.
- Finally, the “second guessing” of decisions made in the past is off base and unfair. It is fundamentally unfair to criticize solid and rational decisions from 2006 with post-Recession 2011 eyes.

I think we all know how important the health sciences are to the strength and reputation of the University, and that the Medical School plays a key role there.

The Medical School has in the last two years met the financial challenges we have all faced. It is making the critical decisions necessary to ensure that it has the solid financial foundation to continue its important missions of education, research, and patient care.

I believe it’s critically important that we speak up when statements are made that are unfair or simply wrong, and I also know that our community stands up for what’s right. It’s what we expect of the students we are sending off into the professions this month, and it’s what we should expect of each other.

Sincerely,

Aaron Friedman, M.D.
Vice President for Health Sciences and Dean of the Medical School

Okay, so I sent a withdrawal e-mail awhile ago and never received a confirmation. Has anyone who has withdrawn received a confirmation? If so, what email address did you send your withdrawal email to? I'd hate to violate trafficking rules, so thanks!

In off wait list yesterday! I am definitely going. Top choice, top school.

Okay, so I received a confirmation letter today in the mail (along with my voided deposit check). Just in case anyone was wondering how to expect receiving withdrawal confirmation.

Good luck to everyone as the waitlist begins to move! :luck:

Hey Congrats! 🙂 Would you mind sharing what # ranking you were given initially?

I was #2. Good luck to all waiting. I interviewed about 7 months ago and the waiting game does end.

Accepted today! I was 31 on the wait list... things are moving quickly now! Good luck to all the rest of my fellow wait list-ers!

Congratulations!! I'm very happy for you!

Does anyone know what kind of movement there has been for the Duluth campus list?

The U of MN forum is getting so quiet! Any updates or recent acceptances?

The waitlist at the TC campus moved a ton at first, now it's at like #41...

The waitlist at Duluth usually doesn't move much. I talked to Susan C. in April and she said there were only 6 people who hadn't made a definite choice to attend.

I'm going to DMU-COM next year. It was by far my favorite school I interviewed at. I would go to the U if I got in simply because it's closer to home (family, boyfriend, etc.) but I am VERY happy to be attending DMU this Fall. I hope everyone has a place to go. If not, don't be discouraged. I didn't get in my first time! There are MANY benefits to taking a year or more off. It's awesome!

Hey Class of 2015!

Where is everybody living this school year?

I'm an OOS student, and I'm not familiar with the area. So I'd really appreciate any advice on housing. The night before my interview I stayed in one of the medical frats. However, I'm not sure that a frat is for me, so I guess I am looking for off campus arrangements....

Thank you in advance for your help!

There are many nice places to live around campus - it just depends on what you want. Uptown is a nice place to live and you can get to the U of MN easily by bus, but if you want something closer the Seward Neighborhood as well as the Prospect Park neighborhood are also nice places to live that aren't filled with too many undergrads.

A list of housing options can be found here:

Also, other students have been talking about housing options on the facebook group, so you can go there for some help as well:
