Great news man. Looking to here from them, and I am anxious. Similar stats, 38s 3.86 but my interviews went horribly...

OMG! CONGRATS! I interviewed on September 28th as well, but haven't heard anything yet, however your MCAT is higher than mine. 32/3.98

Congrats Boltzmann77!

I got THE call! I saw the 919 area code and was afraid to even believe it...my voice was not shaking, but I was speechless. 😀

Honestly I thought I totally botched my interview, UNC was my first (early September) and I was not prepared (do not let the casual interview style fool you PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE)

I'm IS and my gpa/mcat are below average for Carolina, but it's NOT just about the numbers. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Also NO research experience and by NO I mean not even a little.

To those awaiting secondaries/interviews/acceptances Good Luck to you all 🙂

Congratulations LadyBug 🙂!! When did you get the call?? Is it already too late at night to get the call?? I bet you will sleep well tonight. My stats aren't super hot, some good, some not so good but I thought that since I got an interview that they at least liked something about me.
Enjoy the moment and more  Wish I were in your shoes :xf:

Gracias! I got the call around 8pm. Two of my friends last year got calls on NOT a Monday (one got called on Weds and the other on a Friday) both are current students at UNC. Lol I'm so excited idk if I'll be able to sleep.

Thanks for those words of encouragement to those of us who did not get the call. :luck:

Just to clarify: I am one of those who did not get the call 🙁

But I'm trying to keep busy so I'm not totally consumed by this process.

Got a call last night from a 919 area code.

But it was just my doctor confirming an appointment I have in 3 weeks.

Hoping to hear some good news, got the axe dropped from Pitt yesterday, made a nice little ding in my confidence.

Oh my, you made my heart race for a moment when I started reading your post
I can only imagine how your heart must have been racing when you got a 919 call!!! 🤣🤣

Wow congratulations ladybug and boltzmann!!

I interview at UNC in a few weeks and am really nervous. What is the interview day like?

Ladybug, you mentioned that you think you botched your interview...could you recommend a few things I could do to be better prepared?

Thanks!

Do you think they will call anyone today??? I swear this process could make any sane person go crazy! 😀

So, I'm IS and haven't even gotten a supplemental yet. I submitted it a while ago (early September I think), and I know UNC only gives supplementals to IS people they are considering for interviews.

Should I be bracing myself for disappointment, or is there still a glimmer of hope?

Here is my recommendation. I'm not the type who thinks you can really... "prepare" necessarily, but do have certain expectations when you go in.

The interviews are casual and conversational, but that doesn't mean that you aren't going to have to answer some tough questions. So do be prepared to talk about your weaknesses. I also feel like I semi-botched my interview because I had a tough time answering some of the questions that I was asked. Hopefully that was not the case.

I'm in the same boat as Ladybug, I was so gung-ho about UNC and interviewing there that I scheduled my interview too early and whilst in a giant craze of secondaries did not have a lot of time to really "prepare."

Thanks for the reply UnclePhil.

I apologize if these are silly questions: I know the committee "prefers" no more than 3 letters of recommendation; does this mean that it wouldn't be bad if an additional letter is sent i.e. (2 science, 1 non sci, 1 research)?? Also, since the deadlines for the letters are the interview day, do you know if the letters are usually evaluated after the interview along with the entire file? Thanks again!

I'm a current MS1 at UNC and just thought I'd stick my head in to give some advice/words of encouragement. I'd say the most important thing about your interview is to relax and just be yourself. Don't tell them what you think they want to hear, be honest. Having said that, it is easier to be yourself if you have prepared a bit and aren't quite as nervous. Definitely read through the interview forums on SDN to see what types of questions UNC likes to ask and come up with some answers in advance. Don't stress out over rehearsing your answers, just use this "practice" as a way to make yourself more comfortable going into the interview.

As you probably know, you will interview with two people on interview day. What you may not know is that between interviews, you will be sitting in a room in Bondurant Hall (the admissions building) and students and sometimes even faculty will come in and sit and talk with you. Definitely utilize this opportunity to pick the brains of us current students who will be more than happy to tell you what we like (and dislike) about UNC SOM. None of what you say in that room will count for/against you in terms of admissions, so feel free to ask whatever you want. For me, that was another great way to help me relax on interview day. Just talking to other people your age without worrying about "am I saying the right thing" will help build some confidence and relax you so don't just sit in your corner and stress out the whole time. Enjoy the experience, they really do try to make your interview day as enjoyable as it can be given the circumstances.

My two interviewers were completely different. My first one was very informal and conversational and the interviewer was really looking to see how I cope with stress. Dr. Bashford (Dean of Admissions) came into one of our Advisory College lunches last month where we were talking about coping with the stresses of being MS1s and he said that one of the things they look for on the Admissions Committee is people who will transition well and be able to handle the intense workload of med school so perhaps be prepared to talk about that. My second interview was much more the traditional interview style, but that was partially due to an issue with them having to find a substitute interviewer so the guy who interviewed me had never seen my application before. The question he asked that most sticks out in my mind was "What 3 adjectives would your friends use to describe you and why?" I was completely unprepared for that one and ended up using pretty weak adjectives and left the interview feeling like I had completely botched it, but as others have said on this forum already, just because you feel that way doesn't mean it's true.

Lastly, for people who haven't heard yet or who are getting discouraged because they've been rejected elsewhere, keep your heads up. You are all way ahead of me from last year because I got my application in about a week before the deadline and interviewed on the last possible UNC interview date. I was rejected from ECU (I had been working at the ECU med school for 2 years at the time so I thought I had a pretty good shot) and got pretty down on myself thinking that if I got rejected at ECU my chances of getting into UNC were pretty much zero, but the next day I got a waitlist letter in the mail from UNC. On May 17th (right after the May 15 deadline for people to withdraw acceptances from all schools but one) I got the phone call. So as they say, no news is good news, it means the committee still sees something in you that they like.

I hope at least something in this long post is helpful to you all. Good luck with your interviews both here in Chapel Hill and elsewhere and hopefully I'll see you wandering the halls of the many UNC SOM buildings next year.

hm...haven't got a secondary yet, but they didn't send me a we got your primary until september 14th.
Whatever happens, happens. No worries over here. I just leave everything in God's hands.

If you haven't been sent a secondary application yet, just send them a quick, polite e-mail. I was concerned that they had not sent me one after a week or so, and they sent a reply e-mail with the supplemental saying that they had a few problems switching to an automated system which may have delayed some applications. (I'm also in-state, that may be a factor in their reply)

I am out of state... I will send them a polite email and see what happens. Thanks!

I just called them today because I was verified in September and haven't heard from them. The lady on the phone said that I "meet the requirements to get a secondary" application and that they would send one to me...anyone know what this means? Do they just give the secondary to people with a certain GPA and MCAT? I'm also in-state..maybe this was what she meant?

Hey. If you guys could help me out I would really appreciate it. I never recieved the secondary email invite, but recieved an email today asking why I didnt submit my secondary, that if I did not reply immediately to their email they would assume I am not interested and will withdraw my AMCAS application from UNC.

Could you Private message me the link to the secondary application website/page, etc.

Does anyone have any kind of statistics on the number of interviews given to reapplicants? Of those reapplicants sent supplementary applications, about what percentage get interviews? Any help is appreciated!

Do they send out their next round of acceptances around the 1st of Nov?

Do they send out their next round of acceptances around the 1st of Nov?

The adcom meets every other week on Monday and generally issues a small number of acceptances from each meeting. So, since the last meeting was Oct. 18, yes, the next round going out should be Nov. 1.

Someone on last year's thread said that UNC is a watched pot that never boils. You WILL drive yourself crazy if you sit there staring at the phone every other Monday, willing it to ring. Try and concentrate on other things and just be pleasantly surprised if you get a call. Good luck to everyone, here's to hoping for an interview invite soon! :luck:

So has anyone received an out-of-state interview invite?

I'm OOS. Secondary received by UNC 8/17. Interview invite today, 10/27.

Hang in there everyone!

Got my interview invite today as well. When will you be interviewing? It's my second round as well.

Thank you! I'm IS, 29R mcat (9 verbal, 10 bs, 11 PS), 3.6 cpga, 3.5 sgpa, i got my bachelors 3 years ago. since then I have gained a good bit of experience with health care (work/volunteer), no research/no papers. this is my first time applying. i'm not an under represented minority. I did apply super early (I mean a week after AMCAS opened the app for submission I submitted).

I applied to 3 schools where my numbers were 'low' one rejected me outright (no secondary offered) and i interviewed @ the other 2, got accepted to unc and am in the 'hold pile' for the other school (OS there).

for me it was just a "You have nothing to lose, but the app $ so why not?" I'm not saying I applied to Harvard w/my #s, but I was realistically hopeful erring on the side of the latter? Idk if that even makes sense. Good luck to you 🙂

Thanks... you give me hope... 🙂 Congrats!

This is driving me crazy! lol.... wonder if anyone will get THE call tonight? :luck:

Got the call at 6:14 this evening! I was so excited all I could say was "thank you." lol

Interviewed Oct 13
In-State, Re-applicant
MCAT: 37
sGPA: 3.57
cGPA: 3.60

Good luck to everyone still waiting! Hopefully I'll see you next year!

So it seems that people who interviewed in late September and even early to mid October are already getting acceptance calls.

I'm a little concerned as I interviewed on September 21st and have yet to hear anything.

Am I paranoid or should I crack open the Stoli?

PS: 37 MCAT, 3.63 cGPA, 3.62 sGPA, Physics BS, In-State

Thanks guys (and gals),
-Zach

I'm pretty much in the same boat. Similar interview time
line (in-state) with basically the same GPA (biology major though) and my MCAT is only a point or two lower. Are we going to have to wait until April or will we even get in at all? I really don't want to start applying to postbacc programs next semester.

exact same position...we'll see

so i guess i'm in the same boat as a lot of you guys....in-state, interviewed early Sept, UNC is my top choice and heard nada so far.

anyone doing the whole update letter thing? i don't really have anything new to add but i wanna show them i'm really interested....i'm contemplating just writing a "i really wanna go to UNC letter" and sending it in. any ideas? 😕

In-state reapplicant interview invite today, complet 10/11

+1 BKnida

I was afraid as a re-applicant whether I had made the requisite improvements on my application in order to garner consideration again for an interview. UNC... I love you holmey.

I was considering that too. Does anyone know if UNC is receptive to letter of intent/update letters? If it's not common practice, then I don't want to send one and seem desperate.

I was wondering the same thing. Does anyone have any advice?
