Does this pretty much mean that if we didn't get a call last night, and interview was a few weeks ago, that we didn't get accepted?

Yes, that means you are pretty much just toast now. You should go ahead and withdraw before its official 🙄

Nah, I'm just messin' with you , they probably have not even reviewed you yet. Hang in there 👍

Sorry to break the silence guys, but I got THE call last night! Good luck to everyone waiting. FWIW, I'm a reapp, IS (this year -- OOS last year), 33, 3.9, interviewed mid November.

:luck::luck::luck::luck::luck: Everyone!:luck::luck::luck::luck::luck:

Congratulations, TeddyBear! See you at second-look day? (speaking of, is there a date set for that yet?)

@ Nessy: Thank you! I've still got my fingers crossed for you and for everyone else, too.

@ goldenstar: From what little I know of the admissions process, not hearing anything by now doesn't mean, well, anything. I think everyone is still in the game until final rejections and waitlists are sent out in April.

Good luck everyone and merry christmakwanzakuh (pick your poison). :luck::luck::luck:

Also, @ jagonzo: of course! No idea on a date yet, though. March-ish I think?

Congrats!

I just interviewed 11/30 so hearing back so soon wasn't very realistic.

It seems your persistence and patience paid off!

Congrats on your acceptance! 🙂

I called today and spoke to Eric. I interviewed Nov 3rd ... and he said that no final decision has been made. I asked him if my file has been reviewed and he seemed kinda hesitant and said probably, but they havent made a final decision. So I'm assuming, I'm still in the maybe pile after an initial review.

Good luck everybody!! :luck: :luck: :luck:

Correct. Each subcommittee can only nominate so many applicants for each full committee review. As a result, there is a natural backlog of highly-regarded applicants as the SOM (most likely) interviews more people in two weeks than the committee reviews in one adcom meeting.

UNC is not known for their speed and no news is truly good news. The last interviews are held Feb 28, so the committee basically has all of March and some of April to catch up.

What if they said, "you'll know by Christmas."??

I'm wondering how the adcom will work around the holidays. Two weeks from yesterday is Monday, December 27 - right in the middle of the Christmas/New Year stretch. I'm going to assume they will not meet that week.

So, do they move up to Monday, January 3? Do they actually meet during the break?

Anyone in the know?

Good question. I interviewed at the very end of November and I wasn't told the same thing.

At my interview they indicated most students hear 6-8 weeks from their interview date. If you were to hear the first week of January, that would be at the far end of that general range (within what is "normal").

Then again, you'd think they wouldn't tell you to expect notification at a certain time if the possibility existed that would not happen. Who knows, maybe they are meeting, again, next week? That or, as most admission offices do, they fell behind.

Also, if you're put back in the 'maybe' pile to be reconsidered at a later date, do they notify you about that status change?

Am I just imagining it or does it seem like they have just been letting in stellar first time applicants and good re-applicants so far?

No, you are not imagining it, I've been noticing that too. Obviously, we only have the sdn slant on matters, but you aren't the only one noticing this trend.

I don't think this is particularly surprising but I've noticed a pretty decent range of applicants (in terms of stats, experiences, etc) post acceptances.

yeah i was feeling similarly. maybe we can just hope that the 4.0/37MCATers and the good reapps are the first acceptances issued....and the rest of us will get our calls later in the season?!

For what it's worth, when I interviewed for fall 2009 admission at UNC, I was in the last interview group for December (10 days or so before Christmas), and one of the things Ms. Reid made abundantly clear to us at the end of the day was that we had/were going to miss the last committee review before the new year. She said that even if we knocked the interview out of the park, the earliest we'd get looked at would be the committee's first meeting in Jan (I think she said somewhere around Jan 10th).

So, at least 2 years ago, they definitely didn't meet during break, and if I had to hazard a guess, that probably hasn't changed. Hope that helps a little.

Bah! Humbug!

But this makes complete sense. Prolonging the agony...... Thanks for your insight.

Got the call last night! Interview early December.

Accepted!! Just got the call today. Interviewed on 11/8. Really excited especially since I LOVED my visit day. Stats: 3.9/36R OOS

Congrats to all those accepted this week!

Interesting that calls have been going out Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, AND Thursday -- as opposed to the normally reported Monday/Tuesday window.

So, when will they start getting around scraping the bottom of the barrel? XDDD

Does anyone know if there is a housing thread or any way to find out about potential roommates/apartments in Chapel Hill? I got in a couple of months ago and wanted to start getting housing figured out.

Good luck to all you guys!!

same question as lileo13...also, does anyone know when second look weekend might be?

good luck to everyone!!

OOS Interview invite on Friday! I'm really excited, friends who applied last cycle had nothing but awesome things to say about UNC. Was complete Sep 20 if anyone is wondering.

Are the adcoms meeting this week? I thought maybe they were all off this week. Anyone know?

As soon as I lose hope in a school, someone proves me wrong 🙂

Congrats!

I still haven't even gotten a secondary application from UNC. The last I heard from them was just before Thanksgiving, when they told me that they were taking a break, would be back in December, and that I would hear from them soon. Anybody else in this boat? I'm beginning to think that my chances of getting a secondary here are not that great, let alone an interview.🙁

In the same boat here.

Edit: Got the boot today, 12/21. Been complete for ages!

Does anyone know if the merit scholarships listed on the UNC SOM website are for OOS students as well as those from North Carolina? Also- any idea when admitted students are notified?

Congrats on your acceptance! some sites to check out:

chapelhillrent.com

trulia.com

As for roommates check the housing link @ dailytarheel.com. Also I have heard that 2nd look is a good time to meet potential roommates.

Anybody received the "app reviewed but no decision made" e-mail yet? Does that mean waitlist, or just the maybe pile? Have they started to make the wait list yet?

Has anyone recently been offered an interview? I am a reapplicant and submitted my secondary in late November. I have not yet heard anything. I know no news is supposed to be good news, but I'm afraid the interview spots may be filling up? Do they have separate interview slots for reapps vs. newbies?
Thanks for the info guys....😕

Just to be clear, this is a post-interview email, correct?

Interview slots - to my knowledge - are only categorized as in-state and out-of-state.

Though re-applicants go through a more detailed review process, I've never heard of only a certain number of interview slots being 'reserved' for re-applicants. It would seem the more rigorous review process for re-applicants is simply self-limiting.

As for interview spots remaining, there appear to be many remaining between Jan and Feb. I wouldn't sweat it just yet. It seems December was a pretty busy month for UNC.

dont even ask what I'm doing on SDN during the holidays...its pretty sad.

Sorry if this question is redundant.. but I couldn't get a clear answer from the earlier discussions. Is the admissions committee meeting today?

Ha, many of us are in the same boat - no worries.

I don't think they did - I have a feeling they've called off all work until January.

Yes, post interview. Interview was early November.

I don't think they met today. I called this morning just to check if the office is open and nobody answered. Maybe tomorrow, or next Monday?

Got rejected today 🙁

OOS/post-secondary/complete 9/15

gl to the rest!

Same here,

oos, post secondary, complete somewhere in mid september.

I knew my out of state chances were slim, but figured I'd give it a shot. A great school! congrats to everyone who was accepted/interviewed.

best of luck 🙂

Sorry to hear that.. but I was just curious. Did they call you to tell you that you didn't get in?

Anyone know what the next meeting date is for the admissions committee?

Anyone know what the next meeting date is for the admissions committee?

The last meeting was supposed to be on 12/27 (canceled due to holiday) ... so if they follow the 2 week schedule it should be on 1/10. Hopefully they wont ... which would mean on 1/3. According to last years thread, it seems as though they followed the 2 week schedule ... which means 1/10. Sad.

Does anyone know when US News reranks the medical schools for the new year? I'm curious because UNC is tied with some other schools, and I'm curious to see if UNC is going to pull ahead.

Not sure. UNC was recently ranked 18, ahead of Emory and UT-SW.

These rankings tend to fluctuate.

You concerned with UNC's ranking?

Anyone able to confirm the first adcom meeting of 2011?

Anyone able to confirm the first adcom meeting of 2011?

I was tempted to call and ask them but then again they instructed us not to call them about status/meeting dates so I didn't end up calling them. I'm guessing since no one posted their acceptance yesterday, they are following regular schedule and the next meeting date is next monday- 1/10 as girl000 posted.
