Just got in!!!! Yay! I started a Facebook group for all those planning to attend UT Southwestern in the fall. Search for "UT Southwestern Class of 2015."

Best of luck to everyone still waiting to hear back from admissions.

Did you get an email today?

Also interviewing here 1/8. Checked my email just for kicks at 4am after a long night out -- best surprise ever 😀

Congrats and thanks for starting the group.

Everyone should join! It makes finding roommates easier.. 😛

I have an interview on 1/8 - the TMDSAS rankings are supposed to be in by 1/10. From the other schools I have seen, it generally took at least a week before the school showed up in your list to rank.

What happens if we cannot rank UTSW by 1/10?

You should definitely call/message the TMDSAS office or maybe even the admissions office at UTSW to find out. I would contact them before Jan. 10 to find out what to do...

Just thought that I'd share here what they told us this past weekend. They are planning on offering 0-2 match spots on Feb 1 but are expecting to make ~100 more offers as others decline positions.

didn't they say they had 0 spots for the match? so that basically everyone would be on the alternate list unless rejected?

Yeah that's what I posted?

As long as it's higher ranked on your list than wherever you matched to you'll stay on the alternate list. They made it sound like they don't really send out rejections all that often so I'm guessing virtually everyone stays on the alternate list unless they choose to be removed (via rank or request).

haha yeah, just double checking. well, match ranking submitted so no way to change it now anyway! best of luck, everyone!

wow.. offering 0-2 seats for the match? i can't help feeling fortunate right now. but considering that they usually end up offering around 100 more acceptances after the match, there's still hope for the others. 👍

Does anybody know when further instruction/information will be given for the accepted people? I'm guessing it's going to be sometime after match day (although I guess UTSW doesn't really even do match for all intents and purposes). Just kinda feel like I'm hanging around here waiting for the next step, hm.

If I remember correctly, the next step should be MS0 (second look) weekend. Last year this was sometime in mid-February so you should be getting some information on this sometime soon.

This weekend was a lot of fun and I personally know a lot of people whose decisions were influenced by it, so I would strongly recommend coming if you can. 😀

Hope that helps!

I think you can be filling out FASFA too, but if you don't have your info yet don't stress about it. Sooner the better though.

Also go to MS0 if you can. It was the weekend I decided on Southwestern :-D

I thought the second look weekend was only for the MD/PhD students? It'd be nice if the MD students get to have the second look too!

Also, I am currently doing a master's program right now and have been wondering if my acceptance to SW is contingent with the receival of my degree. Do you remember the school said anything about it when you were accepted?

Not sure if the mstp kids have a separate wknd, but there is def a second look weekend for everyone. We call it MS0 wknd.

You probably don't have to finish your masters but I would call the school and make double sure before you drop out.

Matched here as well!

Congrats! And congratulations to everybody else who matched!

For those who didn't don't despair, UTSW traditionally has a lot of waitlist movement (75-100 ppl I'm told). There's definitely some truth in this because I know a lot of my classmates here were accepted after match day.

Again, congratulations!

congrats to all the matchers! join the party over on the facebook group and join the discussion on UTSW college system = Harry Potter

see y'all in August !

Does anybody have insight into the scholarship criteria for UTSW? I'm applying this coming cycle and just wanted to get an idea, couldn't find anything on their site.

Found out that everyone is on the waitlist and that they don't rank students specifically in terms of a number.

For those of you who pre-matched and then ultimately "matched" with UTSW, have ya'll heard anything from the school since match day? Also, does anyone know anything about this MS0 day I keep hearing about?
Thanks!

Does anyone know when should we start filling the FAFSA? Sorry if this question has been asked before. Thanks. =)

Hey you can actually already start filling out the FAFSA (starting Jan 1 I believe), in fact, I think it would be best if you got started on it.

Hey I'm not sure, but as far as I can tell, you are automatically considered for scholarships when you are accepted and there's no other application you have to do. I would agree w/ Cole and it's probably the same things every med school looks for. Just incentive for the top students that they believe will be "courted" by other schools.

You guys get an email for the MS0 program in early April? It'll be great to see the campus and students again as an incoming student rather than a nervous guy at his first interview. 👍

Did UTSW Admissions tell you this? When I called them, all they said was that a waiting list would be sent out "soon." Has anyone received any correspondence from UTSW about the waiting list by chance? 😕

Thanks

UTSW has been awfully quiet compared to last year around this time 🙁

Just received the mass email from Anne McLane; she indicates that everyone who interviewed is on their waitlist:
Are you on the UT Southwestern alternate list? As an interviewed applicant, as
long as you do not withdraw from UT Southwestern consideration, you are on the
alternate list. Receiving this email confirms you are currently on our alternate
list.

Update letters?

There is nothing more you can do to alter, supplement, or improve your application.
We have your academic credentials, letters, evaluations, course reports.

Ranking?
What is your place on the list? UT Southwestern does not rank the alternate
list and will resume 'rolling' admissions as places in the class become available.

I got this email just now on my phone and the subject line was cut off: "UT Southwestern A..." I was abt to start jumping up and down only to discover that the rest of it said "Alternate List" not "Acceptance" 🙁

so i know the alternate list email said that there was nothing we could do in terms of follow up or letters of intent at this point. but...would it be SO horrible to try and send a letter in anyways? southwestern is my number 1 choice, and i'm one of the unfortunate ones who's currently matched to and stuck in the A&M fiasco. =\

...or would it just be safe to not send any letters in, since they (sort of) told us not to? haha

thats weird that they dont rank the list

Not that weird, Tech does this also... It's actually quite awesome for those of us that have crappy stats...

I would do it... What do you have to lose? They are not going to reject you for showing extra interest... You want to end this cycle knowing that you did everything you could. Have no regrets, send the letter. 🙂

They kind of made it sound like the files were solid at this point so I don't even know if it would get considered. That being said, if you have an update letter with something significant that has changed I'd send. If all you're going go say is that they are your first choice I wouldn't because as you said they basically told us they assume we are still interested.

so people coming off the waitlist is random? lol

I think "we don't rank" is simply a way of keeping people from calling to ask "OMG WHAT NUMBER AM I." Cause then waitlisted applicants would know *exactly* how many people they have to kill. And that's cheating.

Hi guys! I just registered to SDN today (but I've been browsing it ever since last October). I wanted to share the email I sent to UTSW regarding the alternate list and their response to my question. I hope this helps clear up some questions:

Me:

Thank you for keeping us updated. Can I infer from this information that admissions from this period on will function in a lottery-like format (applicant will be randomly drawn from an unranked pool if a spot opens up)? Thanks for your time.

UTSW Response:

Thank you for writing. The term ‘lottery’ is incorrect. As seats need to be filled a dynamic review of the alternate list is conducted. Decisions are not made at random. The alternate list is fluid. Many medical schools continue to hold interview dates (some into March) and applicants will receive offers and remove themselves from Southwestern consideration. I will keep you posted to any changes.

Is anyone on here applying as OOS? I'm wondering if any OOS spots have been granted since December.
