Hey everyone! I was also accepted at 8am this morning!

GPA: 4.0

MCAT: 31Q

Looking forward to meeting future classmates!

Also accepted! You gotta love the personalized acceptance video 🙂

Me too -- I'm DYING for a UTSW acceptance!!
Congrats everyone!

Me too. I never new I wanted UTSW acceptance this badly until I didn't get one today. Is this all the prematches for UTSW? Does anyone know if there are anymore coming?

Thanks Cole. But I just checked last year's thread, and if this cycle is like last year's, it seems like they already offered 230 some spots. And if somebody from these spots decline (like 2 people did last year), then those next in line will get the spots during prematch. Any other movement will have to wait till Feb match day when somemore will leave the spots.

Just leaving this post so waiting people like me don't get their hopes up.

And they offered zero spots through the match system last year. ;_;

Most of the people prematched to UTSW also apply OOS, so there will be some attrition as they go to what they think are better schools for them. Of course, this means they don't begin to give up spots until march or later, when OOS schools' offers really get rolling. Keep expectations down but don't lose hope completely. Que Cera, Cera... What will be, will be😳.

Officially it says that, but I had a friend who got in Feb. 2nd. So I guess that technically wasn't "Match" but the day after. I think they said that we ended up accepting a total of about 330-350 students last year, so from pre-match to school starting there were about 100 more spots opened up.

Keep your hopes up guys!

If I were to write a LOI after 12/31 (assuming I don't get a pre-match offer between now and then), would it be more feasible to send it in before match day or after match day? Just wondering in case it comes to that 🙂

I was just thinking this today... I was going to write one for both Techs. I am going to do it before the match I think since Tech gives a lot of matches. Though, I wonder if it would be more effective after the match... I think for UTSW, before the match would be good since a chance of getting off a waitlist is low...

Thanks for your input! Actually now I'm considering sending one in before pre-match season (?) is over with, since SW doesn't seem to match many. ARGH. I'm so confused as to what to do!! Haha. Anyone else have any advice?

If you really want to go to SW you should just draft a letter and send it. They will probably stick it in your file and look at it next time they are deciding who to take. It might not help but I can't imagine it will hurt. I vaguely recall SW telling people last year not to send in anything extra (maybe around match time, not sure) so if you are gonna send something better to do it sooner rather than later.

Any idea to whom we would address the letter, and where we should sent it?

ACCEPTED! UTSW class of 2015! I can't find a facebook group for the class of 2015, anybody knows if there's one up already? And yeah, the video is completely priceless. Nice to see more acceptees!

Dr. Wagner would be my choice, but he might be too busy right now to give it his full attention.

I'm getting a lot of mixed messages as to when/what to send an update letter/letter of interest. Can more people chime in on this?

Thanks!

I really don't think it's going to make that big of a difference. Just send in the letter, do what you think makes the most sense, and see what happens.

anyone know if ut southwestern gives out multiple batches of prematch acceptances??

Anyone know the number of pre-match acceptances given out so far?

Looking at Spaceman's post above, my guess is around 230? I find that a little high it may be closer to 200 since at the interview they were pretty explicit that they left spots open for people with post-match interviews, and there are a significant amout of spots that will be opened up via the waitlist as people resolve multiple acceptances. Best wishes!

Has anyone received their formal letter of acceptance in the mail yet? I got an email notification on the 17th about the letter being sent out but haven't received it yet. I know there's usually a two week timeframe to claim acceptances so I don't want to miss out.

I was just about to ask the very same question myself; nope, haven't received my letter yet either. I got the email as well (about address updates, right?) but didn't respond seeing as my address hasn't changed...not sure if I was supposed to have replied nonetheless for confirmation.

Got my letter today, you should get yours soon as well!

Thanks for the heads up...I just checked my mail, and there it was!

I was poking around on last year's UTSW thread, and it seems like a lot of people got scholarship offers as well in their acceptance letters; anyone have luck with that yet?

I did receive a very generous scholarship in my letter 🙂

I just got my formal letter of acceptance today!! I also got a very generous scholarship. 😀 This changes everything.

Also received my letter of acceptance. I'm OOS and my letter indicated that they would charge me IS tuition $13,100/yr plus give me an additional $1000/yr. Is this what others are OOS people are receiving? What about IS people?
Also, does the amount listed include fees? I know some schools, like Baylor have some $9000/yr in fees on top of their tuition cost.
I've been accepted here and at Baylor and am trying to get a good idea of the bottom line. Any help from current students or applicants would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Also, any comments to compare UTSW and Baylor would be appreciated. Let's get a good dialogue going.

As far as I remember, our total for tuition and fees was a little over 15,000...so I guess we have about 2k/year worth of fees.

As far as UTSW and Baylor go, it really is a matter of personality and fit. Different schools will have slightly different sets of students and it just depends where you felt more at home. Personally, I was fairly sure I wanted to go to UTSW after interviewing at both schools, and the 2nd look at UTSW confirmed it for me.

I have more to say...but just PM me and I'll tell you about it for fear of starting a hatefest on this thread.

According to my 2009-2010 MSAR, the total cost of tuition and fees (but not living expenses) is about $13k for residents. The $1,000 is given to you to qualify you for IS tuition (under Texas law non-residents can be provided IS tuition if they receive a scholarship of $1,000). You may just want to call the school or financial aid office and ask.

Just curious, what scholarships have people received?

i think the truth is that no one knows

Ah yes, but isn't conjecture fun? It gives us a sense of control over a process we have zero control over once we hit the submit button (minus, of course, rocking the interviews you're lucky enough to get)

Got nada in terms of scholarships, their really affordable tuition is all the monetary incentive I need to move to Dallas. Like the poster above, I'm just grateful to have an acceptance.

Southwestern is also really great about giving grants (free money) in your financial aid package, even if you already got a scholarship. They told us last year the average MS1 got about $6000 in grants (they give you the most grants your first year and the least your last year so that your loans build less interest). So whether you got a scholarship offer or not you can look forward to getting more money when you financial aid packet comes in in the spring! (unless of course something changes this year with the amount of available money, which is always possible...)

When are UTSW scholarships given out. Are they only at the time of the initial offer or is there the possibility that they may come later?

The letter mentions that an initial scholarship offer doesn't exclude you from future offers, so it seems there's an initial one in the acceptance letter and then potentially more later.

Thanks for the response! do you know if we have to be proactive or just wait. Thanks for the info cole. 👍

I got one quick question. I got email saying that they got my appl. on 11/23 and I got interview invite on the same day by email for 1/8/2011. Is it normal to be invited on the date they got my appl? Do they give interview in January? because I thought December is the last month.(In this case, am i interviewing for waitlist?) Please give me any help on this one. Thanks.

First, the 1 day turnaround IS normal. Mine was turned around in 48 hours.

I don't know about the January interview dates. I know that they will be finishing the listed interviews by next week, and will do the first round of admissions by December 15th. That means that after you interview, you probably won't know until the match process whether or not you got in.

Of course if you are out of state, you are basically applying in a completely different pool and method than everyone else.

quick question, I have my interview on Saturday and will be attending the afternoon program on Friday (I will not be able to attend the rounds in the morning), I was wondering how to dress on Friday. Should I wear a suit then as well? Or will a dress shirt w/tie and slacks suffice? Any suggestions/input would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Most people wore slacks, a button-up shirt, and a tie. A few wore suits, but that wasn't the norm (at least when I went).

On my interview weekend, everyone wore suits on both days. The email says to wear professional attire.
