Interview invite! I guess you schedule it after they send you everything by mail??

Interview invite! I guess you schedule it after they send you everything by mail??

I think they gave you a number you could call to schedule an interview. I did that rather than waiting to get something in the mail.

Accepted too! 😀😀😀😀😀😀

Not enough smilies, I don't think.

I received the letter yesterday 🙂

Good luck to everyone else!

"You have included 18 images in your message. You are limited to using 10 images so please go back and correct the problem and then continue again."

Bwahaha, guess I have to delete some smilies.

It is definitely to your advantage to call the phone number in the e-mail and schedule your interview over the phone rather than waiting for the information via snail mail.

What a relief...

Congratulations to both of you. Hope to see you in the fall.

Does anyone know what how to qualify for instate tuition if you're out of state in ohio?

Does anyone know what how to qualify for instate tuition if you're out of state in ohio?

You can qualify for in-state tuition after 1 year (or sooner if you have a spouse who gains full time employment in the state of Ohio). There are various requirements that you have to meet in order to do so, including

-getting an ohio's driver's license
-living in ohio for 12 months
-and several others, but I'm not sure what exactly they are.

you can contact probably contact the registrar's office to find out the details.

Totally should be paying attention in class right now, but I just picked up my mail on my way to class and opened it! Had to turn on my wireless to post this:

Accepted! 😀

FWIW:

9/28 Secondary Submitted
11/19 Interview Invite
1/3 Interviewed
1/26 Postmark of Acceptance Letter

Did your status on Toledo's website change from "complete awaiting decision" after you got your invite? And has anyone gotten a snail mail invite (I got the impression that there were snail and email invites)? Or am I wrong?

That status has been up for me forever. I checked today and that is still the status so I assume that after the secondary, all communication is done via US mail/email.

email first followed by snail mail a few days later. i didn't wait for the snail mail to call and schedule my interview date, though.

Good idea here-the office staff is very friendly and it's better to call and "haggle" (I don't have this date, do you have that date?) than to use the paper form and rank your choices.

Finally, I was pretty upset about the interview day after I left Toledo, and thought I had blew it with a bad second interview, but it turns out it was a good thing. Maybe some of you can learn from my experiences. Here is an excerpt from my blog:

The first interview was pretty casual. We talked about Obama's healthcare plan for a good 40 minutes (the interview went 1:20 even though it was only supposed to be 40-50 min). Discussed some of my ECs, experiences, etc. Pretty typical interview stuff except for the extended question on the new healthcare plan.

The second interview was nuckin' futs! I went in and he seemed very disinterested in me and my application. He immediately started grilling me on my C in organic chem, and wouldn't relent. He started picking apart my application and attacks were coming from all sides! He talked about my letters and quoted some lines and asked me to explain (I had no idea of the context!). He then asked me some ethical and moral issues but I only got a few sentences to answer before he cut me off and moved on to the next one. Then he asked me about some medical and public health facts. And then, he saw that I am a licensed EMT and ran through some scenarios with me. He even quizzed me on ACLS protocol! Even though I got the ACLS stuff right, just by his demeanor, at this point, I was thinking "Dude, you blew it!" At about 30 minutes in, he started to grill me again on my Organic Chem grade, and asking how I thought I stood a chance to get into med school when everyone else had A's in Orgo! Finally, in the last 3-5 minutes, he finally told me that he was just giving me a hard time about my orgo grade and that he actually really liked me; he said he hoped to see me in the fall!

This is good, i guess?

Time to get back to paying attention in class! See you all around!

Interview invite email today! Very excited! Ohio resident with a 29, 3.9sci undergrad and 3.5 grad. Calling Monday to schedule interview! Any advice?

anyone know how much the interview is weighed?

I felt like a nailed the interview but ended up getting waitlisted zz

I've talked to some UTCOM students about apartments. When did you current students reserve an apartment?

Just a suggestion, but I think you would reach more of the students if you posted this question on the wall of the Facebook group for UTCOM class of 2014 (or 2013, 2012).😉

Just received this today. Anyone else? Opinions on if this is good/bad/neutral?

Thank you for your continued interest in the University of Toledo College of Medicine. Your application is still under review. We expect to have most decisions made by early March so it could be a few more weeks before you hear from us. We will notify you as soon as a decision is made by email and by regular mail. Please let us know if you are no longer interested in UT. Simply reply to this email and we will withdraw your application. Otherwise, please do not respond.

I received the same thing at 3:22pm. In my opinion, it's a good thing. That probably means that they've already sent out rejections to people they know for sure won't be getting interviews. So you're still in the running. The fact that they're bothering to keep you updated at all is usually a good sign 🙂

I received this today as well... have been complete since early Sept. and received this exact email 2 months ago to... Im assuming its neutral?

Interview invite today! So excited! 🙂 Going to call tomorrow morn to schedule.

For those interested, 29Q 3.5 in state...pretty generic ECs.

Scheduled interview 4/18. Sooooooo late! Anyone know if I'm really just interviewing for a waitlist spot or if they will actually still accept this late? Opinions please..

No, I wouldn't say that. I know current students who were accepted later in May without being waitlisted first.

There are certainly individuals that get outright accepted late into the interview season. If you live within a reasonable distance of UTCOM you could try calling the admissions office to see if you can be contacted in case someone cancels their interview at the last minute. Most schools hate to see interview spots go unfilled and are annoyed w/ last minute cancellation so they're usually eager to find someone to fill these spots. Plus, think positive, late is ALWAYS better than never!

I've talked to some UTCOM students about apartments. When did you current students reserve an apartment?

I viewed and reserved my apartment in mid-late June for an early August move-in. If you're interested in a unit that is already vacated, most apartment complexes (around here) don't want to "hold" it for you, without you paying rent or another tenant living there, in preparation for you moving in on X date for more than a month. If you're interested in an apartment that is going to be vacated around the anticipated time of your move-in, then there is obviously no such holding period and you can usually reserve it at any time. Many students move in (or at least move their stuff in) 1 or 2 weeks before orientation starts.

Hi,

I have an interview on April 7th. I was wondering if anyone else did, and would want to split a cab from the airport and hotel?

PM me please if interested!

If you are staying at the Hilton on the Health Science Campus I believe there is a complimentary shuttle to and from TOL. You could also probably walk from the hotel to your interview if there is no shuttle to the hospital.

i have an interview here on April 21, the last interview day. is this definitely an interview for the waitlist?

Is there a facebook group for the class of 2015 yet?

Hey all,

So I just checked my email and I got the acceptance into the Toledo Medstart Program. Here were the important dates:

Interview Invite: 12/7
Interview Date: 1/13
Acceptance: 2/17

I am absolutely amazed and so excited to go there. Everyone was so polite there when I went for the interview.

Go class of 2016!!!

Has anyone with February interviews heard back about a decision yet? I interviewed the 10th and am getting kind of anxious as I really liked the school and the program

You'll probably have a little while to wait. It's been taking at least a month, if not more, for them to notify people after interviews.

i had to wait 26 days. if i remember correctly, they have adcom meetings on tuesdays and acceptance emails are sent out afterwards. needless to say i was very anxious every tuesday after my interview, even though i knew it would take about a month.

Thanks for the info. Now i'll only be incessantly refreshing my email tuesdays instead of every weekday

I wouldn't count on them sending an email. I was really discouraged when I didn't get an email the day that I thought I would, but then I got an acceptance letter in the mail the next Monday.

wow, i'm really glad i got an email. i moved after my interview and forgot to update my address with UTCOM. if they hadn't sent me an acceptance email i would have missed the snail mail letter entirely, or at best, would have had to wait for USPS to forward to my new address. are they exclusively doing snail mail now?

I had heard that unless it was a rejection, they notified you of your status via email AND snail mail. I'm not sure how true this is though.

In the past, previous to the advent of the online application system, this has been how the admissions office has notified applicants that have been accepted.

I was accepted with a snail mail letter, and received no email from them. This might not be the norm, but it definitely can happen.

Any current students know that if I send thank you letters to the office of admissions with ATTN :" Interviewer's Name" they would actually get them? thanks

I'm not sure - this is probably a question that the admissions office is best suited to answer.

Rejected. Letter came in the mail today, OOS. Ha that was nice to send a letter. Kinda sucks I heard Toledo is a great school especially at preparing you for boards.

Anyone else have to decide between here and Wright State? Just curious as to what is swaying you one way or the other...any significant differences people are noticing?

Obviously, UTCOM has its own hospital (which is great) and WSU does not...but I don't know how much this matters.?

I really liked the facilities at WSU and the whole vibe of the place...felt more at home.

thoughts?

I think it's important to go where u r comfortable...medical school is a tough journey n u need a place that feels like a home...a community to u. Both Toledo and Dayton have similar stats so my opinion is to go where u feel more comfortable...it will be one less thing to have to adjust to or deal with when u actually need to be focusing on studying.

I've been cautioned at several interviews by current medical students to go to a school that has its own hospital. Their reasoning is that the hospital will be much more willing to meet your needs as a student, and will feel a responsibility to do that. Just what I've heard.
