Sorry about the bad news. When did you interview?
I interviewed Sept. 20 and the letter was dated Nov. 16. I'm OOS.
Sorry about the bad news. When did you interview?
I got a letter in the mail today from Utah and figured it must be an acceptance since I didn't think they sent out post-interview rejections or waitlists until March. I was wrong 🙂. Oh well, best of luck to all the rest of you!![]()
So Sorry to hear I'm out of state as well and just interviewed yesterday. I was wondering did you get an email in regard to research opportunities like the day after interviewing? Best of luck the rest of the way
I interviewed yesterday and got the research email today. Are you OOS or IS? I'm OOS.
If you go online and check your status, you will see if you were accepted in the first group of applicants. Admissions Committee must have had a review meeting this week.
I believe the U has sent out a couple of waves of rejections already also.

I'm also failing to see where you can see if you were accepted or not. Of course, this probably just means that I was NOT accepted. Curious if that means you were accepted? 👍, but it says you are already a Medical Student, so are you on the Adcom or something? I was under the impression that they weren't giving out acceptances until March?
I was also wondering how do you check this out? I was told as well that March si where everyone would find out. Is it just on the secondary application website? Thanks
You guys mind telling when you interviewed? I don't even know if that's how they do it or not, but it might be interesting to note.
Yeah it's true, I just got accepted! Pretty excited, they told me we wouldn't hear back till after the new year. In-state.
Wow so much activity on this thread all of a sudden.
When I interviewed a week ago, they said that the "majority" of people would not be notified of their acceptance until march. But it seems like that isn't necessarily the case?
Anyone know how often their executive committee meets to decide on applicants? I thought my interviews went pretty well so I'm very very excited to hear back from the U. They have an awesome cancer center.
Only top ranked applicants (~top 15%) or so will be given acceptances outright. The rest of the applicants will have to wait till March to hear.
The U uses a special algorithm to determine who they deem as "must haves" and give out those acceptances almost immediately after they are reviewed. This formula also determines the "no chance" people who are rejected almost immediately.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the insight. When you mean immediately you mean after interview or after committee meets, which could be awhile after the interview?
Ms. Doulis mentioned that the adcom judges you according to the following breakdown: 80%interview, 10%MCAT, 10% GPA.
Is that truly how its done? I feel like unless your interview went really poorly, everyone seems to get about the same type of evaluation from your interviewer.. it might also depend on your interviewer's personality and how passionate or effusive they normally are.. (kind of a luck of the draw thing, don't you think?)
Accepted outright as in, immediately after the admissions committee reviews you and determines you are a top applicant, they offer an acceptance by mailing you and changing your status online within the week (possibly to sway you from considering other schools).
Lccjblu: 80% encompasses all your activities, AMCAS application, secondary application, Letters of Recommendation, and your 2 interviews.
Interviewers, in my opinion, serve to weed out the bad applicants. If you make an interview difficult on them and they are forcing answers out of you, you are very likely going to be rejected. A great interview won't necessarily grant you an admission but it keeps you in contention for one of the seats.
thats great news keeps good spirits up would really love to go here but being oos puts chances against me
If you get an interview from the U and you are OOS, your chances of getting in are probably better than an In-State applicant, post-interview.

I received an acceptance on 12/11 via snail mail. I can answer any questions if anyone has them. Good luck everyone!

congrats 🙂 was it a nice big fat packet or a deceiving thin envelope
Rejections have been "rolling out" over the last month or two. Yes, the acceptance letter was deceiving thin. When I first picked it up I thought it was a rejection but it turned out to be great news.
That sounds like little more than OOS hopefulness ... hehe😀
Why is that? I'm from CA...I thought my kind was a dime a dozen! I'm interviewing this week, and am seriously considering Utah.

Any Idaho applicants out there following this forum? I interviewed at Utah on November 3rd. No news yet, I'm not expecting anything til March though unfortunately...
Rejected by snail mail today. OOS - interviewed Nov. 18. Looks like I'll be re-applying this year. Good luck to everyone else!
All I was saying is that the statement made by Rawls, about OOS having a better chance of being accepted than IS, seemed unfounded. Judging by the numbers in MSAR it seems like the ratios of interviewed:accepted were the same for both IS and OOS.

Fabio, if you dont mind, could you post the ratio for acceptances post interview? Thanks!

and at least 6 of the OOS spots are reserved for Idaho applicants.
I do believe its 8 spots, and I am actually an Idaho resident so I am competing for one of those spots 🙂. However, I am also a Mexican-American applicant, so I also qualify as a URM, so I'm not sure how that is considered - either Idaho or URM spot
