That's funny. You're supposed to start applying for financial aid before knowing if you're even accepted?

Should I even bother filling the forms out if my parents combine to make 250K a year?

This really seems like it's made for current students. I can't imagine a school expecting you to fill out school-specific financial aid forms before a final decision has been made on your application.

When I was at Yale, they told us to go ahead and do them so that they could get you your aid package right away if you're accepted.

Well then, thank you sir. I guess I'll get on top of that.

They told me the same thing as well.

Ditto.

The fin aid lady said fill it out even if your parents are rich and see what you get. It might be a little bit, but it's better than nothing. The forms are really long and in depth and annoying though, so you might want to stop once you've started if you don't think it's worth it.

are there any current yale som students on this thread w/mediocre-feeling interviews but were accepted? care to share some relief??? i had one pretty good (but not amazing) interview, but the only one i don't know if it was okay or just bad (but definitely NOT good). i want to go here sooo bad, and waiting until march 15 is killing me! :scared:

Maybe it's relief to know that Richard Silverman reiterated to my group that interviews are just one aspect of your file, not the end-all-be-all of getting accepted?

The waiting and radio silence is killing me here. Of all the Ivies, I definitely would want to go to Yale the most.

Worst part is I don't even know what my chances are post-interview, and how big the group I stand in is much less where it is I stand in it. 🙁

You and me both. It is better than rolling schools though. At least there's a specific date (or week) on which you can start freaking out.

As applicants for the MD/PhD program, if we don't get in to the MD/PhD Program but get into the MD only program, do we need to file financial aid before acceptance?

Sounds like you need to call 'em!

But.. thinking about it logically. I don't see them setting aside funds or rushing to take care of people in that situation, when you could just put the papers in now - just in case.

NeuroE your logical thinking is correct. They told me that I should just file the papers anyways. It can't hurt. Thanks.

Woo! And another woo! for filling out forms! You're gonna have a blast. I suggest giving your parent(s) a heads up that you're going to have a boatload of questions for them/him/her.

In a few hours, the real wait begins. This is my #1. Good luck to everyone.

Anyone hear of a notification date? And how they notify?

Don't know how they notify, but Silverman said at my interview that they were aiming for the week of March 14-18.

So the real wait begins in 2 weeks.

I believe it's via email. I don't think all acceptances are sent out at once either. I gather this from last year's Yale thread. Also, on the yale website it states ALL correspondance is through email.

That's good to hear 🙂

haven't heard anything since finishing my secondary in July.. so I thought I'd call in.. Found out that interviews are over and decisions are mailed in march. Basically meaning I'm rejected. Good to know.

Good luck to everyone still in the running :luck:

Hey,
Has anyone tried sending/ emailing Yale an update letter? Do they typically accept these?

Thanks

I sent a letter of interest/commitment/whatever, and yes they accepted it and confirmed that they had received it. I sent it as a pdf via email. I'm sure they'll do the same for an update letter since updates are a more valid reason to communicate than to say I love you.

I called yesterday and was told that final decisions were being made this week and next and that an update may not have any bearing at this point (probably if they already got to your file). I just updated my address and hoped my interviewers took good notes on the update I gave during my interview.

Very helpful Pliosaur, thanks!

Yikes, neither of my interviewers took any notes. I hope doctors have good memories!

The wait is excruciating.

It seems crazy to me that I've been waiting since october for this, and now that it's two weeks away it feels like it's months away. I have to admit though, when I started this I wasn't even expecting to be invited for an interview here.

Word. Interviewed back in early September and, after replaying my interviews over in my head countless times and going back and forth between whether they were excellent or terrible, not sure what to expect.

Just the name of the game I suppose.

Same here. I barely even remember what my interview was like since it was about 4 months ago but I hope it was good enough to give me a fighting chance

This was my second interview back in october but I remember it very well. It felt awesome! I developed a great rapport with my interviewer because he had also graduated from my UG and we were from the same hometown. It was very personal and conversational. I have no idea how this admission process works, so ....who knows? But I am really keeping my fingers crossed because Yale has been one of my top choices all along and I would definitely go to Second Look if accepted. Good luck to everyone!! :luck:

Would you like to trade your excellent interview for my 10 minute long faculty interview?

Yours, was that short? This process is so random that who knows if it makes much of difference. I am keeping my expectations really low anyway. The interview did give me a boost of confidence, especially because it was my second, so I did the rest of them fairly relaxed. I got very lucky with that faculty member! We'll see what happens.

I wonder if we had the same person. mine was 20 minutes late and in the time he did have with me, he grilled me about where else I was applying. not a good experience. (but I still liked the school in spite of him.)
