Man GS Mikami is a beast.. you got pretty much every interview available right now lol

An international beast... kind of like a spanish speaking beast with rabies... refer to El Chupacabra for more info.😀

The truth is that I really want to stay for med school and even work in texas. There is something about the people here that just makes it a great place

Per the MSAR, tuition for OOS is right under $30,000, which is really not bad for OOS. IS is around $16,000

On another unrelated note though, our seasons seem to be progressing similarly. Best of luck to you and maybe we'll even run into each other somewhere

Yeah you are right 😀

How are you dealing with the International status and schools? Wont some not even look at them?

I only applied to schools that accept international students (I'm an F1 visa -non resident).

Im guessing that the interviews mean that they can look beyond that

Gotcha that makes sense after looking at your MD apps. Best of luck. Mind i ask which country?

I'll let you know at the UTMB social tomorrow, how 'bout that?

congrats to everyone who has received an interview!

My application status changed from "Your application is complete and has been reviewed. BCM interviews from September to February, you are eligible...bla bla bla" to:

  • Your application is complete and is being reviewed by the committee. We will let you know as soon as further information is available.

Please email the Admissions Office if you have any questions.

What's up?

I've got the same thing. Hmmmm. I'm getting a little anxious. :scared:

lol I just checked cause of this thread.. Maybe that means we'll all get an interview invite? :xf:

Yep, happened to the people who got the first wave of interviews.

Yay! I'm excited, then. I know the first wave got invited for September 2nd; does anyone know when the second interview day will be? I'm just wondering because I've already scheduled an interview with UVA for the 7th, and I'm hoping not to experience conflicts.

Mine also says this

Your application is complete and has been reviewed by the committee.
We will let you know something as soon as we are able.

Baylor College of Medicine interviews from September through February.
You are eligible for interview consideration through February.

Congrats on the interviews...me feels like things are heating up!!:xf:

Just checked mine has not changed *sigh*

i don't think you can read much into what the status is. it's a stupid guessing game. i got an interview but my status hasn't changed at all....

Mine never changed for about 2-3 weeks and I got the first interview. Don't be worried about status changes or lack thereof.

Yay! Congrats for the interview invite!

I'm going to be a student host for you all. Can't wait to meet you guys, totally excited.

BCM has been absolutely AMAZING. The students, faculty, staff...everyone is great. I hope you all are STOKED to be visiting 😀😀

anyone thinking about flying in the morning of since interviews dont start till noon?

Bad idea. I would NOT recommend this.

Edit: Several reasons: flight delays will ruin you. transportation delays will also ruin you. you want to be here around 10-11 just to check the place out. The TMC is amazing and you want to spend as much time here as possible. Also, flying is tiring, man. Even if its just a short flight. Just come stay with one of the student hosts 🙂

so do you think most students will be okay with my staying thurs and fri night? i want to go to the social after the interviews. I def know about flight delays. I've been late to things before because of delays. I originally wanted to take a 6:30 flight to houston. arrive around 7:30. but you're right, flying is tiring.

i stayed for two nights with my student host. there isn't a problem staying with two nights. baylor tries to match your needs (staying thur/fri night) with a student who has compatible availability (i.e., can offer their place thur/fri night)

For anyone familiar with the admissions process at BCM, how much will a late secondary (submitted towards end of august/beginning of September) impact admissions chances? Or is Baylor like UTSW in the fact that applying early doesn't really have much of an advantage?

I submitted mine in November and here I am. lol.

That being said, on interview day, you are told that enough spots will be open on the very last interview day (sometime in february) to hypothetically accept everyone there (which is like 50-ish) IIRC.

and to be completely honest, even when a school says it doesn't have rolling admissions...it's lying. they are all at least somewhat rolling, so apply as early as possible.

Congrats to everyone who has already received their interview! I am little bit slower in the process (hopefully not too far behind!) but am getting ready to send my secondary in within the next 3-4 days.

I had a question how I plan on answering the essay question that I would love to get thoughts on. I am a non-trad applicant who graduated in 2008 with a 3.45sci/3.48 overall GPA. I have been working in a healthcare investing role in VC since then. I was a dual degree student (Engineering/Business) and completed 59.5 credits, whereas most students/premeds graduate with about 36 credits (Penn is on a credits system, not hours, i.e. one course is 1 credit, course with lab is 1.5 credits). Through college I didn't really make an attempt to optimize my grades by doing things like taking Orgo the same semester as a set of easier classes, etc. It was a fairly rigorous curriculum and am sure played a part in me doing well on the MCAT (40).

I hope my committee letter will do a good job credibly addressing this but I thought the "Special Experiences" essay would be a good venue to discuss my lower GPA in an effort to have adcoms consider it with a bit of an asterisk. What are thoughts on doing this? Will they already have a good sense of the curriculum based on the AMCAS/Committee letter? Is it better to focus on a different sort of experience right now rather than use the space to "make excuses" for not having as high of a GPA as others.

I am considering answering similar questions from other schools in the same way so, again, I would love to get thoughts here.

Thanks so much and good luck to everybody!

EDIT: If I'm asking in the wrong place, can someone please tell me the right place to ask? Thank you kindly 🙂
The committee wants to get to know you better. Tell them something that the rest of your app doesn't speak to. Your MCAT shows that you are capable, and a 3.4 engineering does as well. Show them a new side with your special experiences.

+1

az007: if it is something that you still wish to address after discussing your special experiences, you are always welcome to email/mail an additional letter addressing that.

Baylor is one of the four schools I applied to this cycle. I took the MCAT 7/16 and will get the results back next Tuesday. I am finding it hard to get motivated to finish my secondary. I keep thinking theres no way I will get an MCAT score that is Baylor material.... I know, not very positive attitude! According to MSAR, the MCAT range for Baylor is 31-39. If I score in the 27-30 range should I even bother? Sorry to sound like a whinny baby 😀

My MCAT is only 30 and I applied to Baylor anyways. It would not hurt to try :xf:
