Does anyone know till when Columbia will offer interview invites??

Applications will remain open until the end of the interview season (mid february currently). Last minute interviews invites have happened, especially if there have been recent updates.

what would be considered recent updates? Any grades of last year? Or any new research or volunteering position?

So I spoke with the office and to their knowledge offers for basset haven't gone out, but they are being considered currently.

For thos seriously desiring to come to Columbia, I definitely encourage that you send a letter of intent or interest if you so like. This is especially useful after decisions have been made if you were waitlisted. Many students may have not withdrawn but have made decisions elsewhere, and a letter after waitlist let's them know you are still interested. Also, dr nicholas has been known to agree to second interviews for waitlisters. If you aren't in the area, they do them by phone.

Thanks so much for looking into the Bassett situation. I guess I'll wait a few weeks before sending in a letter.

Yes, what about pre-interview letters of interest? Has anyone sent one?

Does anyone know if the admissions committee has been meeting already to make post-interview decisions in preparation for March? Or does this happen later in February/early March.

I sent one and they added it to my file. Haven't heard anything since then though

They are focused on Bassett mostly. They try to wait until the end of all normal interviews before making decisions.

I just submitted my update to the office of admissions... is it suggested that we send this update to our interviewer as well (post-interview update)?

i spoke with a current bassett student recently and he/she told me that decisions for the bassett program for this year have already been sent out. could anyone confirm this?

i want to send a letter of interest/update letter soon but i'm just not sure whether or not to include bassett as part of my letter if those decisions have already been sent out.

thanks!! 🙂

I will check tomorrow if I can, but I would encourage you to send the letter anyways. Include Bassett in your letter, but emphasize that you would also be interested in attending the normal MD program if that is the case for you.

I'm definitely excited to turn the calendar to February. I think see a light at the end of the tunnel, though!

Or an incoming freight train....we shall see.

A few Bassett acceptances have been sent out, but most are still pending. Mdphd by the end of february and normal MD at the usual march date.

Mmmcdowe, you were totally my tour guide on Monday! It's weird when SDN and real life intersect...

Hopefully for the better 🙂
I was wondering...do you end up taking the train a lot? Does it get expensive? The monthly passes are ridiculous, I think I would just have to learn how to bike in traffic

Hey, I was wondering if anyone else had a similar interview experience. During my interview, I wasn't given much of an opportunity to talk. My interviewer was really nice, but it felt a bit like an information session. Not that I mind particularly, I'm just a bit concerned about whether they have enough to evaluate me on.

There were a couple of girls on my interview date who were freaking out about this. Mine was a little more balanced, but admittedly difficult to evaluate how I did--which has so far been the best predictor of my post-interview decisions. I still found the conversation to be lively, enjoyable.

Hey, but if your interviewer gave you an impromptu info session, perhaps s/he had already made up his/er mind about you and really wanted to let you know why you should come!

I take it less than a monthly pass would make worthwhile. There is a free shuttle to the undergrad as well. That is my primary destination off campus in a given week, especially since one of columbias affiliate hospitals is there and I have rotated there a couple times for various reasons.

Super common, probably more common than not. It is not an indicator on your chances in either direction.

I have interviewed today at Columbia, but I think my interview was a bit strange.

The interview ran for about 20-25 minutes, while the admissions committee told us that the interviews would typically last for 30-45 minutes.

During my 20-25 minute interview, the doctor talked for about 20 minutes why Columbia is a better place than other places; he went on to say that, whatever interest one might have in choosing a career path, Columbia will do its best to accommodate each and every student.

I literally talked for about 5 minutes about myself. When I showed some concern about this, he told me he has thoroughly read my application and letters of recommendations. At the end of the interview, he told me that he hoped that I have a good time today.

How was the interview for you guys? I am little bit worried how I did not get to talk a lot about myself.

Does anyone know when in March we'll hear? Is it early March or mid March... Are there any acceptances in February?

Also, does anyone know when second look weekend is?

Yeah I'd really like to know that as well. I'm living out of the country, and trying to figure out the dates I can fly back for. They're usually in April, right? Have there ever been ones in early May before?

and the same as vanderbilt. is there a list of the 2012 second look weekend dates somewhere on sdn? i know someone made one for 2011.
