I'm in VA and still no call, letter, or email. Starting to think it's not going to happen, but it's okay, I have other acceptances. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Shadeofgreen may I ask where you are going to? We interviewed at a lot of the same schools (Columbia, Harvard, WashU, Dartmouth...etc) . I am the same thing haha I am heading for UToronto this weekend 🙂

Medhopefuls, if you're doing sunday, I'll see you there! I'm doing Western tomorrow. Will try to not be thinking about Columbia the whole time though :S

Awesome man me too I have been wanting to meet you and some of the long-time Canadian SDNer's actually (Candav, Filius, Tsiana, you...etc). Check your PM message 😀

And yes...trying not to thinking about Columbia at the moment or any other U.S acceptance news updates

Assuming that those of us who haven't heard anything did not get accepted, and hoping that we've been waitlisted instead of rejected, does anyone know how heavily Columbia uses the waitlist?

From past threads it seems that 53% of people accepted choose to go to Columbia. Assuming an initial wave of 200 acceptances, that leaves 54 spots to fill from the waitlist. This is fairly accurate as people report around 1/3 of the final class getting in off the waitlist.

I've also read that Columbia takes around 600 people for the waitlist (not as sure about that number). Either way, there will be some waitlist movement, but not a huge amount.

Received an acceptance call and letter this evening! So excited!!! 🙂

my parents received the packet at my permanent address in virginia

Was that set as your preferred address? I hope letters from Columbia didn't get sent to my parent's house instead (I guess in terms of timing, I hope they did?).

FWIW, my Columbia letter was sent to my preferred address.

Here is the full email for those that have not had the pleasure of being rejected ;-)

Dear Applicant:

The Committee on Admissions and I regret to inform you that we will not be able to act favorably on your application for admission to our next entering class.

This letter most emphatically does not mean that the Committee regards you as unsuited to the practice of medicine or even that it feels you could not meet the demands of our curriculum. It is the result primarily of having thousands of well qualified applicants and only 165 places in our next entering class.[/

I hope that you have gained admission to another medical school. The Committee joins me in wishing you well in your future medical career.

Oh thank goodness, they fixed it from last year.

So in review...

At least one person has received a phone call but no letter, a letter but no phone call, an acceptance letter in Colorado, and a wailtlist letter in NY. No one who actually interviewed has received a rejection yet?

I think there are still a few more golden tickets out there..

Nothing in the mail again. No call either. Officially giving up on hope of an acceptance. Crossing fingers for wait list. I hope those weren't sent by priority mail too.

+1

Nothing in the mail here either. 🙁

No mail. I really hope I at least got waitlisted...Why can't they just email us?

Just got a waitlist letter. I'm in NYC and the letter was postmarked March 2nd.

Anyone get a personal message from the Dean on their letter? Last year's thread showed some people with written notes

Nothing in the mail today and no call either. Officially giving up hope for an acceptance and hoping for a wait list spot. I'm disappointed because columbia was my favorite school after interviewing, felt such a great vibe while I was there.

I felt the same way about Columbia. Still, the Admissions Office clearly stated there were still acceptances that would arrive next week. . . let's not lose hope 🙂

May I ask when they said that? So you don't think that they mailed out all the acceptance letters at once?

I called on Friday morning. They didn't specify the details, but they made it very clear that I shouldn't give up if I didn't hear back this week.

For the sake of complete records: I was finally rejected pre-interview yesterday (March 2nd).

It looks like no one has been rejected post interview yet....does that just mean Columbia keeps a huge waitlist?

I'm so confused... I thought everything was sent out and should have been post marked on March 1st?

The letter was dated March 1st, but it seems that the mail office didn't add postage to the envelopes until March 2nd (and I'm assuming that's when they got sent out). That means some priority mail envelopes (if they were sent the same day as the waitlist letters were) might still be in transit.

No letter today in Atlanta. :-(

Not gonna lose hope in Columbia until I am officially rejected but time to focus on other schools it seems.

Waitlist letter arrived today. Letter dated March 1st...postmarked on March 2nd.

For folks who are wondering... if you are wait listed you have to confirm whether or not you want to keep your spot on the list by March 22nd...

Not sure how I feel about being on a 500 person wait list (basically, not sure if there's any hope of getting off the wait list or how to get off the wait list).... =/

Good luck to everyone else still waiting to hear and my heartfelt congratulations to those accepted!

Location?

Ohh I see. Makes sense, I guess. Columbia interviews ~1,250 and I bet the USPS wasn't prepared to send out that many letters in one shot, lol.

People who receive letters on Monday... can you indicate when your letters were postmarked? Just asking in advance 🙂

On a side note, this has been the longest week ever. So much waiting and hoping...

Did anyone with waitlist letters get personal notes from the Dean?
