So does anyone else know if they're going to be announcing acceptances this saturday or sunday? My admissions review is complete and I'm anxious to find out their decision...

I just interviewed on Friday and they said they would be sending out texts and/or calling today with the first round of acceptances.

good to know! I checked out the last two cycles' threads, and apparently emails were sent out at 12:30am on 10/15. but since no one has come on here screaming that they got in, i assume this means FIU is doing things differently this year.

i LOVED this school, and will be a little heartbroken with bad news. :xf: and :luck: everyone!

For those who received an invite and attended, what documentation is needed? The email reads,
"You must bring a state driver's license, voter's registration card, and valid passport or greencard."

I'm a reading this correctly in that I need 3 forms of ID? If so, I do not have a voter's registration card because the city in which I live has moved the city council district line multiple times (apparently my apartment is right on the line). I thew out my cards because they were not valid.

Thanks!

I have a simular problem only wiht my passport. I have one but it's expired and it will take longer to get a new passport than I have between now and the interview. Wonder if I can just bring the expired one and a copy of my birth certificate or something. 😕

I showed up with a photocopy of my passport (a rather poor one at that) and they took it. I also had my driver's license and voter registration (and a copy of my birth certificate, which I don't think was one of the ID forms they listed). Granted, mine wasn't expired, but I think they'll be ok with it, worst case theyd ask you to get a new one and send a copy to them as soon as you get a chance.

Can someone comment on transportation? For those who are OOS applicants, how did you get between the airport and campus? Taxi rates seem quite high and public transport by the campus seems poor. Am I overlooking something?

any good news anyone??
Nope... hopefully tomorrow. I would love for some good news.

Taxi - $30-40.

Still "admissions committee scheduled", looks like I'll be in for a long wait :scared:

Anyone think we should be expecting some midnight calls if we're accepted? Or perhaps not until a later hour? :luck:

I think they said they would either call, text, or email us, which makes me think they won't release anything until tomorrow. I doubt anyone in the office would work until this hour. ::anxiously, excitedly waiting!!!:: lol =)

last year they texted people at 12:30am on a saturday morning. guess they're not doing anything on the weekend this time around. good luck everyone!

Ya, I emailed FIU, and they got back to me within an hour. I would just email them with your dilemma and suggest another document that fulfills the requirement. I would think a birth certificate would do. It seems like they are looking for a document that verifies employment authorization in the U.S. (This is just my assumption. I work in HR, and the passport is the ultimate ID for work authorization.)

Hope so! I haven't slept since midnight on the 14th 😵.

Haha jk. Getting anxious though..

I'd seriously love to carpool with anyone coming from Tampa or Orlando the day before the interview if possible. I'd be espcially interested to carpool on the return trip since it is literally 2.5 hrs from Miami back to my home in Fort Myers. Let me know, future clasmates:luck:

I interviewed back in mid Sept. and I'm in state.
So Happy! 🙂🙂🙂

I interviewed mid-September and my application still says "Admissions Committee Scheduled." Should my status have changed by now?

I interviewed August 29th, and mine still says the same status "Admissions Comm Scheduled." God i was really hoping for some good news this weekend or today!!! I NEED ANSWERS AHHHH 😛

I'm in the same boat as you. Interviewed 9/16, status last updated 10/6 to "Admissions Comitee Scheduled." Thought they were gonna look at my app by this past Friday and let me know today, but I guess not yet. Quick! Do 100 more hours of volunteering and send them an update!

From what I understand from what they told us on interview day, the admissions committee met on 9/13 (I wasn't in that in one) and once again at the end of September. They reviewed 25 apps in each. These are the people whose decisions were released today. Clearly, more than 50 people were interviewed before those two dates... so not everyone who interviewed in august and sept would find out today.
My status changed to "Admissions Review Scheduled" the day after my interview and changed to "Admissions Review Completed" around the end of Sept. so I knew that they'd already met and had the decision...it was just waiting around for two weeks.
They meet now 3X every month and review 25 apps each time...so I guess people can find out anytime after this since I am sure they've prob already met at least once this month.

So has anyone received an email saying they were placed on the alternate list or rejected?!?

I'm asking because I interveiwed mid-early Septemember, my status says "Admissions Review Complete", but I haven't heard a thing 😕:scared:😕

yeah maybe someone could call them and ask?? i'm hesitant to do so because i don't want to bother them...

Has long has it said interview review completed? Maybe they reviewed in October.... I think you could call and ask. From what I remember they were really nice and I don't think they'd be annoyed.

My status has been "admission review completed" since 10/4. No email yet so I just want to know if I've been waitlisted or rejected...

Admission Committee Scheduled 10/6... what date in Sept/Oct did AC complete review for those whose status is Adm committee complete? I assume they do it around the same day each month... I interviewed mid september - anyone already accepted from then? I think they only notify acceptances once a month... boo.

Oooooookay. Spoke to the lady at the admissions office. If you're dashboard says "Admissions Review Completed" you have been placed on a ranked list. Emails about rejections or being placed on the alternate list will not go out until February once interviews are over. So for those of us that have "Admissions Review Completed" but did not recieve an acceptance email it's a waiting game. We will either get an acceptance email between now and February or they will inform us that we have been placed on the alternate list or rejected in February...good luck everyone....

Thanks for finding out for the rest of us. Guess all we can do is keep waiting.

First, I'd like to thank the poster and everyone like him who was accepted, but knew he wasn't going there, and PROMPTLY withdrew (opening a spot so other people aren't hanging). Ethical behavior, I think it should be appreciated!

Second, did anyone submit thank-you letters and if so, did you get any sort of response back at all? Curious if they are disposed to reply back quickly, although I am sure it varies depending on who receives it and how much free time they have when they open your letter.

Thanks!

For this "ranked list" do they pull from that all throughout the interview cycle as new higher ranked people submit their applications? Or do they go in order of receipt of applications? I understand rolling admissions, but they do not do rolling review/interviews (first-come first-serve basis?) ??

They talked about this at the interview... they said the sub-committee assigns your file a "numerical score" based on AMCAS, Secondary, LORs and interview. They your score either qualifies you for "acceptance" or "rejection"

The highest scores will be accepted outright, and the rest will be put on the alternate list... the list goes in numerical order, so if someone gets a higher score even though they interviewed way after you, they get placed above you on the "list". So there is NO "first-come, first-serve"

Admission Committee Review completed today.... I have a number now, it's there, and I have no idea.... I hope they notify people more than only once a month because, if not, this is going to be one long month.

dude, sometimes it's hard to decide until financial aid/scholarships are released.

Accepted but also withdrew- good luck and i hope it goes to someone who really wants to be here 🙂

Does that status instantly mean not being accepted now, or is there a time frame after getting that that you can get an acceptance. Like, I just got that status now, so does it instantly mean waitlist/rejection, or could I be accepted within, say a week or 2, but after that it would mean waitlist?

I think their "score" system is complete nonsense. If you look at mdapplicant and the stats of people who got in, it seems like admissions at FIU is like at any other schools.

Above all, they're looking for high MCAT scores. So even you you do poorly on your interview, as long as you were coherent and as long as you have a really high MCAT score, you got +10 pts. If you fit their diversity quota, that's probably +10 pts out of 100. If you're in-state, +10 pts. I almost feel like the interview didn't matter that much.

From what I've seen in the current cycle, it seems like getting into medical school is very formulaic. If you have 3.85+ GPA and 38+ MCAT score, you'll get into a great/good school as long as you have a passing personality and some token EC's to boot.

BTW, were there any out-of-state applicants who interviewed at FIU? What do you think of their "real" tuition for OOS at $70K ($60K + mandatory 10K "fees" that they won't break down).

Just a guess, but I think that the FL government subsidizes tuition for FL residents. So, if you're from Florida, the government is actually paying a portion of your tuition and fees. If you're not, then you are responsible for paying that extra portion. It's like that at most state schools. Also the 10K of fees for non-FL residents isn't much more than the almost 8K that in-state students pay, and they're not obliged to "break it down." All medical schools have fees...

And yes, on my interview day there were a handful of out-of-state applicants. In fact, one of the current FIU students that we met was not a FL resident.

I think about 20-25% of the class is made up of OOS students. Also -- the total "cost of attendance" is pretty mindblowing for OOS -- estimated at $93,444 (compared to $61,944 for IS) last year (with an estimated 15% IS tuition increase next year). The tuition itself is $30,000 more for OOS and $1,500 more in fees.

The financial aid person did a great presentation, however, and said they have a lot of scholarships available (you can't apply until you are accepted) -- but they will cover at the max the IS cost of attendance. I think she said they had ~40 scholarships for the 120 incoming students.

And to answer a previous question -- the scores are assigned POST interview.

To those of you who already got in, when did your status change in relation to when you got your acceptance? And what did it change to say?

Thanks. And congrats to all of you.

Mine still says "Preliminary Review Completed".......Does anyone know if the next status "Admission Committee scheduled"?

The next status is "Invited for Interview"

The "admission committee scheduled" status does not come until after interviewing

Does anybody know when the committee will meet to discuss the next round of applicants?
