So if I interviewed on 10/24... Should I be hearing my decision today?

no email for me...i guess it will be next monday

interviewed early to mid october

Ive got an interview here on Thursday. I know its a little late in the cycle but Im really excited. Any advice? Any interviewers I should look out for?

I've had to put off my interview until January due to scheduling conflicts. I'm worried this is going to put me at a distinct disadvantage. Does Georgetown have its class mostly selected by mid-January?

Do we upload photos only after the interview invitation, or can we upload one whenever? On the secondary website, the photo submission is under the heading "Interview" in the Post-submissions Updates.

Also, does Georgetown prefer update letters to be sent to [email protected], or uploaded on the secondary website?

Thanks!

I uploaded the photo after II. Idk if you can prior.

I havent received an II invitation yet but I was able to upload a photo

just listened to a voicemail from my interviewer congratulating me on my accceptance to Georgetown! Haven't received an official email/letter from the office of admissions yet but he said that he received an email from the office of admissions letting him know the news. Interviewed early October. hope this is helpful info for those of you waiting to hear back. Good luck to everyone!

FYI: my interviewer was Dr. Holt.

I think you will be alright. They don't accept many people upfront, they tend to waitlist 50% from each interview group. They accept maybe two from each interview day, so even if they had offered 200 or so slots by that time, I think they would adhere to the same policy. Accept 2, waitlist 4, reject 2...your chances for straight up acceptance will most likely be the same, and the waitlist is unranked, so if you are waitlisted you are in no worse a position than anyone else on the waitlist, and 50-60% of the class comes from the waitlist. I did the math, and roughly 20% of those waitlisted will eventually get an acceptance. Best of luck!

I thought the interview was very relaxed- but it depends on your interviewer, of course. My interviewer read my application (everything but stats)- but it appears that some interviewers don't want to/don't bother to read your app. I hope you have the chance to meet Mrs. Sullivan- The Assistant Director of Admissions- she gave us a lot of straightforward, helpful information.
Good luck!

When did you interview? I was at the end of October, so I'm trying to estimate when I'll hear back. Thanks!

I was at the end of October, and I have yet to here anything as well. I am guessing that they have only finished early October. That means they will probably decide our apps at the next meeting (December 15th?). I bet they will only send out acceptances that close to the holidays though (as in waitlists and rejections from our group will go out in January).

Hi, is there anyone accepted or any designated personal statement readers on this thread that could go over my secondary essay (to be complete soon) ?

I'm not sure how the process works with giving people documents because of possible plagiarism problems, etc., but I know on the personal statement thread there were designated readers so if there is anyone like that on this thread that would be great!

Thanks!

I was complete 9/6 and still haven't heard anything? Sent a letter or interest and an update to the GU post submition section the on the application this week. Should I call admissions to ask about my file or just wait?

I just got complete today, but GU is my #1 choice for sure. Since I am way late in the game, what type of things can I do to increase my chances? Im a CDN with a 3.76 gpa, 3.69cgpa, and a 31Q mcat

I know people say GU is open to update letters and letters of intent but what do these letters really consist of? and is it to soon to send such a letter?

Thank you!

Every person I know over the past 10 years who has gotten into GT off the waitlist sent a letter telling them it was their number one choice.

Got the rejection today. Good luck to those still in the running!

Every person I know over the past 10 years who has gotten into GT off the waitlist sent a letter telling them it was their number one choice.

To be fair, the admissions office specifically tells you at the interview (at least they told my group) that if you want to get off the waitlist you HAVE to send them a letter of interest. They waitlist something like 600 applicants but do take a lot of people off the waitlist since it's a backup school for so many. It makes sense that they want a LOI--why would they accept someone off the waitlist unless they knew that person really wanted to attend GT and wasn't just holding a spot there for kicks? Admissions doesn't hide the fact that they want a letter.

I just got complete yesterday and submitted my secondary Wednesday though, is it to soon to send such a letter in order to better my chances for an interview?

To be fair, that is why every person should write a letter of intent to go to Georgetown. I don't think it is fair to have so many people interview for spots and not get an acceptance that they might deserve, even if they are going to turn down GT for another school, so that GT can pick only the people who really really want to be there. People spent $500-600 to go on the interview and that should be enough to get a response without requiring an actual letter of intent. That way they wouldn't have to spend $2,000 interviewing at other places they know they wouldn't go to over GT.

No one "deserves" a med school acceptance, they are offered one, and every school has different expectations of the applicants they accept. GT wants people to be genuinely interested in their program and not just the name. Why is it unfair that GT preferentially accept students who are interested enough to send a letter? That seems not only fair but logical to me.

Also rejected via e-mail. Complete mid-September. Good luck to everyone else still in the running.

Things might have changed over the last decade, but out of all schools, Georgetown treats the interview process as if the people are numbers. Interview a ton of people, and accept only the people who write letters of intents. If you don't do a lot of research on SDN, you would never knew that. It's almost a fund raising tool for the admissions department.

Sure, a lot of other schools might take their last 20 students based on letters of rec, but find another place that has an "acceptable pool" GT seems to take the majority of their matriculated class off their acceptable pool applicants who wrote LOR. Sure, they can admit people however they want. It's their school. I just know that as an applicant, I wouldn't want to spend $600 to go interview, do a good interview, and then find out the only way I get an acceptance is if I commit to the school.

Honestly, I feel that their admissions committee does a really good job. They actually responded to my in the area email, which is more than I can say for other schools. They basically moved my interview up a week so that I would not have to travel to DC twice in two weeks which would have been really expensive. The letter of intent is a pretty smart way for them to figure out who really wants to go there. Last week, I went to an interview at a different school where the admissions director basically told us that applicants today hold on to multiple acceptances for way too long. This causes a ton of problems for the admissions committee. Georgetown's method helps alleviate this issue by removing a large pool of acceptances that weren't really interested in attending.
It may be annoying, but I think a certain degree of persistence should be rewarded. Out of 11,000 applicants, how can they tell who really wants to go to their school? Well if the applicant persistently says that they want to go there, chances are they are telling the truth. By the way, there is a massive difference between a letter of recommendation, a letter of interest, and a letter of intent. A letter of intent takes maybe half an hour to prepare, and anyone can do it on their own. Therefore, it is not unfair to write one because if you haven't written one, chances are the school in question is not your top choice. Why should you be given an acceptance before someone who really wants to go to that school? Chances are you will not get rid of this acceptance until May 15th, and then someone who was planning on going somewhere else will have to change plans because they have been accepted by their top choice late in the game.

I think we should make medical school admissions into a match program akin to the Texas application process; this would eliminate all of the nonsense and waiting.

If you simply want to express that Georgetown is one of your top choices, I think it may be reasonable, but they take 5-6 weeks, so you may want to send another one in a month.

Thanks for the response man, I pretty much put in my secondary letter that GU is my top choice overall, but I am thinking to write letters expressing my interest further, other aspects I like about the program, etc., etc. Good luck to all of you guys!

think there's any chance of hearing back re: post-interview decisions today? Interviewed 10/26, dying to hear back!!! :xf::xf:

Decisions were released last monday, so if they skip a week then next time they rrlease decisions will be week of xmas. From last years thread only acceptancees were notified before xmas.

Just curious, are you referring to 5-6 weeks to review my application for II? I am debating whether or not to send a letter also. Complete 11/10. Thanks!

Sorry for the confusion; Yes I believe it generally takes 5-6 weeks to hear about an interview invitation. I think I heard back in 6 weeks, but it can take up to 8 weeks depending on the time you apply. I highly recommend sending updates as the admissions committee considers the application process to be a conversation. In other words, if you stop talking they assume you have lost interest. Therefore, you want to send information about once a month. I wouldn't be too frequent or you might come off as desperate, but I think once a month is just about right. Good luck!

FYI, it took me 3 months to receive an interview invite and I didn't send a letter.

When I asked recently, the admissions office said initial reviews are running 10-12 weeks. Don't worry yet--just be patient. It never hurts to send an update though. 🙂

This makes sense as it generally takes longer and longer as the process moves along. Sorry for the misinformation. I know it was 6-8 weeks in the early-middle season.

Does anyone know how responsive G-town is about post-interview decisions? Are they one of those schools that sticks to the 6-8 week review time and lets you know if you were rejected/waitlisted no matter what, or do they not let you know for a while and give you the "silent" rejection/waitlist like some schools do? Just getting worried because I interviewed 10/19 and it seems like its been a while.

based on the rejection posts above, it seems like they are approximately at the apps that were complete mid-september to maybe late september stage right now. (just guessing) so i guess the review right now is at ~12 weeks?

for pre-interview decisions, that is 🙂 (i posted this after the above user posted about post-interview decisions so i didn't want to confuse anyone!)

For mid to late October, it looks like they will send out acceptances next Monday. They probably won't send waitlists or rejections from the late October group until early January, but that is just based on last year; they may do things a little differently this year. I have my fingers crossed for an early Christmas present.

I wasn't quite sure on the "etiquette" per se of sending letters. It's only been 4 weeks so I definitely understand that it would take a while now that they are in full interview mode. I have several updates in community service and research publications, so I think I will send a letter in 2-3 weeks detailing these. It definitely can't hurt. Thanks again!

hopefully, calls/notifications will be made. I hope I get a call from someone not in my contacts next week!! Although highly unlikely..

Just think, after getting into medical school - you still have all this to worry about! Don't sweat it...you guys will all do fine.

Is it highly unlikely because you do not think decisions will come out next week? Or is it highly unlikely because you do not think you will be accepted? 25% isn't highly unlikely...

Flip a coin twice, land on heads both times, and BAM you are into Georgetown! :luck:
