Thanks for being so helpful so far guys! Another quick question: So I started a master's program this year which I hope to finish this year. Do you guys know if Mayo actually requires that I finish the Master's program before I can matriculate? I know some schools don't allow you unless you finish the current program you are in. Anybody know Mayo's policy? thanks again!

No idea; I don't think that's come up here before. Call and ask.

Is it too early to start anticipating the next round of calls? I'll be on edge either way . . . was ranked last week

Way too early - I'm going to resist being on edge at least until the weekend. The next round of calls could come any day next week.

I was curious how long it takes after MAYO has received your LOR does it take to either receive an interview or be rejected???

Does anyone have any advice or a general timeline they experienced after their letters of recommendation were received. I know I am a late applicant, but is it entirely to late for me?

ANY help would be amazing!!!!

I paid the fee on 9/17. No word yet.

I designated Mayo to receive my letters on AMCAS. If they decide to look at them, would they still email me to let me know that? Or could they have already looked at them without me knowing?

Just wondering if "LOR Request" happens even if you already sent them the letters.

Yes it does they will still send you an email notifying you that they are retrieving your letters from AAMCAS

Hello Friends! My first time registering on this forum. I have a question. I sent in my app on Sep 29th and LOR received on Oct 18th. I'm really late in the game, but do you guys think they still offer new interviews? I read earlier that they may be meeting every week on tuesdays.

They probably wouldn't have requested/processed your letters if there was no shot at getting an interview. You probably still have a shot at an interview.

I am in the same boat lets hope that they still grant us both an interview!

Hey Mission, when did you complete and all that?

I was creeping through some of the old threads, i might be wrong but i thought they meet ever tuesday and then look at applicants. I feel like if they look at stuff everyweek, then we're bound to hear something this week. no idea man. Good luck!

I think the Tuesday meetings have to do with acceptance decisions after interviews, but from last year's thread, it seems like they stop offering interviews at the end of October. Maybe someone wants to call and ask?

I am super frustrated. I go to a small liberal arts college in the south that has no true pre-medical committee or advising. I wish I had known the importance of having my application submitted early. I feel I might should have just waited until the next cycle to apply.

I think Mayo does things earlier than other schools. Although applying early is always a good thing, I don't think you should lose hope yet. Most schools interview in January and later.
I go to a school that has a pre-med advisor that gives out the same generic advice for everyone, which was not at all helpful. Also, while SDN is helpful, I think that it fosters neuroticism, so don't base everything on what is being said on these forums.
Stay hopeful🙂

I was complete at Mayo on October the 18th.

Interviewed and awed. All I can do now is curb my hopes and pray. Truly one of the best medical schools in the country, screw rankings.

👍 Congrats on the interview! The hard part is curbing your hopes 🙂

I've been ignoring this thread since being put on hold... at this point I'm assuming I won't get in and if I do it will be a very happy surprise.

Best of luck :luck:

I didn't realize this. That makes me sad 🙁

Been complete for ~month, so maybe I can still get an interview :xf: We'll see though..

I was sitting next to you during our Mayo interview - don't fret, half the class comes in off of the hold list.

My LORs were invalid because it lacked a letterhead! Argh!
Does anyone know if I can get my referees to re-submit to the same letter ID?

BTW, doesnt Mayo send out LOR to everyone? I was under the impression that they only send it to selected people, but it seems that everyone on this forum has gotten a LOR request.

No. The numbers are posted somewhere, but of the 4000 applicants, 1600 receive lor requests, then they will choose 300 to interview.

Our perception is skewed, since a disproportionate amount of us have received requests and invites, and people are more likely to post if they have success than failure.

Don't worry about it. You can still get a referral to re-submit, they will not consider your application until you do though.

Same thing happened to me. They e-mailed me and said one of my letters from Professor X lacked letterhead, so I forwarded a different one from my AMCAS database (I had 12 letters total so this was pretty quick), and got an interview offer about a week later.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I am wondering if submitting 3 (good) letters is okay? Or should I submit more than 3?

I had the same thing happen after I had already submitted the primary. Have your LOR writers resubmit using the same ID. I used Interfolio, so I had them upload them again ( if you are also using Interfolio, you will probably need to create a new letter request). Then, send them to AMCAS with the same Letter ID. The school will then have access to both letters (they won't replace the previous letters). You can call the school to explain why they have double although it seems it would be obvious.
It's a pain to do but it really should not take too long if your LOR writers can fix it quickly.

My letter writer is re-mailing a letter as she has trouble creating a AMCAS writer's account and we have no idea what Interfolio is 😕
I guess I have to wait even longer now 🙁

Interfolio is an online service to store letters and then you can have them electronically deliver the letters. It costs some money but I would guess it would be faster than mailing if you wanted to try it. I don't know how long it would take but in my case, my LOR writer uploaded her letter and I had it delievered on the same day. AMCAS received it two or three days later. Good luck:luck:

the way the admissions officer at UC san diego (i know its not mayo, but just to give you a reference of what one top school says) is that letters are like grades. getting 1 "A" letter is better than 1 B letter, getting 2 A letters is better than 1 B letter and 1 A letter. Getting 3 A letters is better than 2 B and 1 A letter etc etc

so yea, if you KNOW you'd have more than 3 strong letters, go ahead, but otherwise keep your 3 strong ones

Just got rejected (my first). I'm not too surprised, since my stats are unimpressive by Mayo standards, but thought it was worth a shot as my thesis adviser did his post-doc there and he wrote me what I presume is a pretty good letter.

Complete: 10/11
Rejected: 10/25 (at 23:37...weird)

Was this before the LOR request or after?

They never read the letter, if it was before the LOR request. That's just how Mayo does it. Good luck elsewhere.

Yep.

Dear Mayo Medical School Applicant,

Thank you for your application and interest in Mayo Medical School. The medical school admissions committee has recently concluded a thorough review of a large number of applications received from interested individuals. The committee was very impressed with the high quality of the applicant pool. However, we have received many more competitive applications than we can recommend for an interview and/or a position at Mayo Medical School for 2012. We believe that this reflects the depth and quality of the applicant pool and the accompanying intensity of the competition for the number of positions in our medical school.

Unfortunately, your application was not among those selected for an invitation to interview. We appreciate your serious interest in Mayo Medical School as well as the time and effort you have devoted to preparing your application. Please give our thanks to those faculty and any other individuals who wrote letters of support for you.

We wish you well in your future pursuits and offer you our best wishes for success in your career. Once again, thank you for your interest in Mayo Medical School.

Sincerely,

Susan A. Romanski, M.D.
Assistant Dean for Admissions
Mayo Medical School

I'm trying very hard to ignore that Monday is only 5 days away 😱On the other hand, I'll be so tired from running a marathon Sunday maybe I'll be distracted

Just to increase your neuroticism, it might not be Monday. It could be Friday, or any day in between. The days they send out acceptances are not fixed.

But I do agree that being very busy the weekend before is the best thing you can do.

Ever since July, weekends have been the worst.

Yeah, I thought about the fact it could be any day. I'd rather not think about it 😀 either way, just getting to interview was an awesome experience!

I feel the same. Just getting the opportunity was an honor. Getting an acceptance would be even more of an honor, but that's out of my control! Once the interview is done, it's out of our hands, and if we aren't what they are looking for, then that's that. I'm thrilled to be considered.

Super excited for next week 🙂 Come on Mayo, show us prospective classmates some good news :luck:

i thought my crazy would come down a notch because i have an acceptance in the bag, but i can't stop thinking about mayo.

paaaaaaaatience sigh

Hey guys, so I submitted my fee mid September (~20th) and still have not received any news since (e.g. no LOR request). Should I contact the office, or still sit tight?

Thanks for the replies guys.

That's up to you. Think of it from the committee's review point: Candidate A submitted 3 good letters, and Candidate B submitted 5 good letters. Which one has more information? I submitted 5. I don't know what their policy is though, so I can't for sure let you know if they will read all 4,5,6,etc...
