Grats! Were you on hold status? Has anyone on HOLD status heard anything back yet? They said we would know by 3/15.

Army acceptances left and right.....I need some movement to occur on the Navy waitlist! Congrats to everyone with acceptances!

Hey, when did you interview if you don't mind me asking?

HOLD status has been changed to WAITLIST status as of yesterday.

All people that were hold are now waitlisters? Any idea on the size of the wait list now?

I called them. We should be getting letters in the mail in 3 days if you did not get an acceptance call. The committee has looked at the people on hold. You were assigned either the waitlist, the alternate list, or accepted.

They said you still have a good chance as long as you are on the primary waitlist and cleared both medical and security.

I don't know if they handed out any denials for the people on the waitlist. They would not share that information with me.

Rankings and the size of the waitlist are not published and the admissions committee does not know anything about where we stand on it. All we can do now is wait some more :-\

I think i misunderstood what you posted because apparently my file is still under review as are many files of people who interviewed after Jan 19th i assume. Did you mean that just the people on hold were evaluated and given a decision by now....?

did yall have to do anything after the physicals? i did mine a month ago and i just got an email saying my physical is not under review.

Yes, I am strictly talking about people on HOLD status.

So was "everyone" on HOLD with a decision to be make by 3/15 updated to the wait list?.. I ask because when I called they didn't ask me who I was or any identification, only knew I was a hold applicant and told me now I was wait listed.

Btw is there a "primary" and a secondary wait list?.

We're supposed to be getting letters soon. They didn't tell me if everyone gets put on waitlist. I just know that I was placed on a waitlist. They wouldn't tell me if people could see any other fate than that.

And yes, there are two waitlists: the waitlist and the alternate list. That just goes to show how many people get off the waitlist. In past years, students have made it into the school off the alternate list.

Oh.. So when they told me hold applicants are now wait listed- they meant I was wait listed, just not specifying whether I was primary or secondary. Talk about false sense of hope. Thought they'd use the word alternate instead

Got my letter today. My hold status has been updated to waitlist. Interviewed end of September. You get a separate paper about being open to an acceptance in a different branch.

Got the same letter today dated March 14th. Interviewed December 1st, placed on hold mid February. Anyone know when/if we find out our waitlist ranking and how much movement the waitlist at USUHS has?

Same letter as well. They wouldn't tell me my ranking on the waitlist. Just hoping for the primary one!

Anybody hear back that interviewed on Jan 19th yet?

same boat as you. no word yet. getting pretty anxious though, as I've read on this forum that someone from an earlier January interview already got a decision.

So it sounds like the waitlist letter received by other applicants earlier this application cycle had mention of "being recommended to the dean for selection"... The waitlist letter i recoeved dated march 14th updating me from hold to waitlist mentions nothing of being recommended for selection-- so is this letter an alternate selection letter, even though my letter mentions nothing or the actual word alternate?..

Sounds like people put on the alternate list have received letters in the past actually stating "alternate selection"

Sorry to be reading so much into this!..

Continued best of luck to all of us :luck:

Well, according to the blue sheet given to us on the interview, for wait list:

"you have been recommended for acceptance by the admissions committee, but there are no spaces available in the First-Year class and/or in your service choice at the time."

and for alternate selection:

"The admissions committee has determined that you are capable of success in medical school, but has identified some weak area of your application. However, you may still be offered a position in the first-year class, if the entire wait list has been exhausted."

With this in mind, I think they would make it clear whether you are "wait list" or "alternate list". Hope this helps 🙂

When I called the admissions committee, they assured me that we were on the waitlist and not the alternate list. I was very persistent in this matter because I was worried of the same issues. Don't give up hope!

Well if it happens.. First three rounds are on me 😛

I very much appreciate the full clarification!

Jan 19ers out there with any info? I'm about to break my f5 key...

I'll answer my own question....
got my waitlist letter in the mail today! SWEET

off to vegas =)

this thread is very quiet... its making me nervous. Anyone get off the waitlist recently?

My gut feeling (reinforced by research) is that probably only the absolute top 5% candidates will get off the wait list until they have finished processing all of the applications for the first pass (remember that they have not even made recommendations for many who have interviewed yet). It only makes sense that at this point they would wait until they have considered the whole applicant pool before filling in any slots that may open up, with the only exceptions being candidates who are well above the average for accepted candidates in some or all categories.

Again, purely educated conjecture on my part, but it seems logical.

Historically, there are big moves in April and HUGE movement May 16. On May 15, you have to forfeit all acceptances except for one, so all the acceptance hoarders give up their spots. Also, all those that are not cleared medically/security are dropped from and acceptance and off the waitlist.

That was my understanding too, and part of the basis of my conjecture as to why things are quiet now.

My understanding is that people who are still being considered, if approved by admissions, will actually be added to the waitlist and not accepted outright.
At this point, and actually starting from several months ago, nobody is accepted outright. Meaning, anyone who is accepted will be accepted off the waitlist at this point. Can anyone confirm?

I interviewed January 19th and still haven't heard anything. Is anybody in the same boat? Does anyone know if the letters from admissions come via certified mail?

I think you are correct that all acceptances at this point are from the waitlist. From the materials they gave us at the interview once they fill the initial spots (50Navy 50AF 63Army) than everyone accepted is placed on the waitlist of their top choice of service and gets a letter saying they are on the waitlist and another one saying they can change their choice of service. From what I have gathered for this year, the Navy spots filled up from those who interviewed in Sep and first two weeks of Oct, Air Force spots filled up a few weeks after and Army in early January. This is just from talking to people put on the waitlist so the spots might have filled up a bit earlier.

I got mine as a standard letter

This is good to know! Cause "5 percent" is scary stuff!
Keeping my fingers crossed and knocking on wood... I hear that the waitlist is a great place to be for USUHS!

According to Ms. Mayo, historically, 30% of accepted students turn down their offers. The movement of the waitlist is different every year, but last year they exhausted the whole waitlist and even pulled quite a few people off the alternate list.

Edit: So yeah, the waitlist is a great place to be!

does anyone recall some training that we need to go to in May?

for accepted students - does anyone know if CERTIPHI (the AAMC background stuff) is supposed to contact us about a background check or something for being accepted to USUHS?

My understanding is students will go through the government clearance process. This is different and separate from the CERTIPHI background check. I do not believe CERTIPHI is used to confer security clearance as it is a simple background check. I think the security process starts with the form(s) turned in at the interview day.

sweet thanks. so if my security clearance has gone through and i'm on unconditional acceptance i should be fine and not worry about CERTIPHI then?

That is MY understanding, but you might want to just call the admissions office to erase all doubts.

Does anybody here know how to withdraw your application from this school after interviewing?
