I received the email too. Maybe it just is their way of saying that they haven't made a final decision on your app yet. Maybe it's their way of saying that they are done with reviewing apps for the year and will contact you in January. I wish all of the schools were this transparent.

I appreciate the added clarity... but I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel like crying when I saw it. It sucks to see any email from your top choice- you get your hopes up... only to have them dashed. Ironically, Toledo did the same thing to me. :meanie:

+1 it is somewhat scary but I guess the worse thing is that they say no but here is hoping for the best :luck:

They haven't sent out any post-secondary rejections, from what I can tell. I can't quite draw any reassurance. UMich, on the other hand, hasn't rejected me. THAT I can draw a teeny bit of hope from. Phx just seems to be a silent rejection, which kind of sucks. I still love you, UA, though! 😀

Does anyone know if the Phoenix campus accepts updates or letters of interest? I know Tucson doesn't, but I'm not sure about Phoenix.

Thanks!

Yes, Phoenix accepts updates. I sent one via email (as did another poster if I remember correctly) and the admissions office replied stating that the letter was added to my file.

Hey all, new to SDN but applying this cycle to both AZ schools. IS, etc. I received and submitted a II, but also got the email. Here's hoping for an interview invite in the next 2.5 weeks!

Here's hoping 2012 brings a med school accept - Phoenix is scheduled to release another group tomorrow. I wonder if they will, though, considering they are closed tomorrow...

:luck:

Today is an acceptance day right? Next one is Jan 20. Did anyone who already interivewed hear anything today 😕😕

A friend received an email at 1:30 today - it was a video announcement of an acceptance offer. So, I guess the good news has been sent for this round ...

Me = :beat:

wow, what's a video offer?

Phoenix sends a cute video when you're accepted. 🙂

thanks for the heads up!

So I know there are 3 more acceptance dates: Jan 30, Feb 6, and Feb 20. Then finally the waitlist is released on March 2.

Does anyonebody know how many acceptances are made each round? How many more interviews are left? How many do they put on the waitlist, is the waitlist ranked? What the overall chances (how many total interviewed, and how many total acceptance offers?) And any other useful info that can give us a clearer understanding of our chances.

Good luck everyone!

Phoenix covers a lot of these questions during the visit day, but for those who haven't interviewed, here's what I recall.

-Each round is approx 10-12 students
-The interview calendar goes out to Feb 13. I think they had over 20 days to choose from, but I might be off considering I interviewed in Sept.
-The waitlist is not ranked - they made it very clear that the list is unranked and somewhat mysterious.
-Clearly the interview invite is the key. If you are invited, then they are interested in you. They didn't talk about the interview pool, per se. But, if they have 20 days and 24 students every day (that was my group), then we're looking at ~500 invites. Last year there were over 2000 app's and about 500 interviewed for the class of 48...they are increasing the class to 80 with the same number of interviews...

Does anyone know if the March 2nd date is only for the rejections/wait list announcements, or does this date include another round of acceptances as well?

Interviewed 12/5 got my email on 12/19.

OOS; 3.4; 34O

good luck to everyone. cant wait until second look.

Also interviewed 12/5 and got my email on 12/19.

OOS; 3.7; 31

best of luck to everyone still waiting!

Hey guys! Looking for a bit of advice here: I was accepted to the phoenix campus a few months ago. I am OOS and I sent Tucson an in the area email back when I interviewed and received no response then. I was however offered an interview today. Would there by any reason for me to take Tucson over Phoenix? I am a little tight on budget and if I could save the money then it would be best. But if if it is worth it for me to go then I will. Thanks guys!

So, you have an acceptance to Phoenix and are trying to decide if you should take an interview at Tucson? I don't think anyone can really answer this for you; the two schools (despite both being under the UA umbrella) are very different, so you have to decide what is best for you and what you are looking for in a school. Good luck. 🙂

It Depends. Before I interviewed in Phoenix, I knew I liked the school. After the interview and talking with students and staff, I fell in love with the school. Research Tucson and trust your instincts. If there are areas of the school that make you pause, then that should be a red flag. If there are a lot of areas that you think would help you have a successful medical education, then you should very much consider interviewing to get a first hand look at the school and the city. Who knows, if you interview at Tucson and like it, you can hope for an acceptance. If you end up not liking it, you can withdraw your application and know that Phoenix is the best place for you. Best of luck.

How about reputation and cost as an OOS. I am assuming the tuition is the same for both schools, how does the reputation compare?

Phoenix is about $67k per year for everything. I don't know what Tucson is since their financial aid site is down. Phoenix is relatively new so their reputation hasn't developed quite yet, but everyone seems to be happy. The main thing you should be concerned about is can you see yourself going to either campus, and will you be happy and successful. It would be terrible to go to a school for four years because it cost a little less but you are unhappy.

Does anyone know if the March 2nd date is only for the rejections/wait list announcements, or does this date include another round of acceptances as well?

I'd like to know this myself. I was under the impression it was, but I'm not too sure now.

Does anybody know the answer? I was under the assumption that it is just the waitlist, but hope I am wrong!

Hey, is UofA-Phx still sending out interview invites?? I really hope so. I sent an update/letter of interest today and I really want to check out this school!

Interview invites are going out until 1/20, apparently.

According to that e-mail we got before Christmas, yes; has anyone gotten an invite in the past few days? I'm wondering if they're going through the process of reviewing the applicant pool and then giving one last mass wave of invites around the 20th.

I got the II today around 2pm 🙂 Sooo happy!

Can any current Phoenix students (or others familiar with the area) comment on housing near the school? Where students live, which places are safe/affordable/close or have easy access to public transportation, etc...

I know it's early, but it never hurts to start checking things out early, especially when they're so far away. 😛

A lot of my classmates live In Camden apartments or Alta, both of which are within a block of campus. They are more pricey but also more convenient. There are a lot of other cheaper options, especially anywhere the light rail services. If you have a car, it may be worth it to save some money and commute from a cheaper area (but stay North of campus for safety reasons).
I commute about 30-45 min depending on traffic. Generally, it's not too bad.
The school will send you more housing information (if I remember correctly it is part of the second look package).

Yeah, as Alby said, Camden and Alta are popular. Many students buy small houses nearby, though the area isn't great. My parents helped my husband and I purchase a condo a few blocks from the school and a few other students live in this complex as well. We got ours on short sale so it was really cheap, and this still seems to be the case with the market down here.

Some students live in the east or west valley or north around Camelback. Pretty much everyone I've talked to has been happy with their situation, whether commuting long distance or not (and some people take the light rail). I like being able to leave five minutes before I have to be there, but sometimes I think it would be awfully nice to be forced to listen to lecture podcasts or NPR during the drive to/from school. It's just whatever you prefer.

for everyone's info, here is where you can get Phoenix crime stats. i put in the school's zip code 85004. zoom in on Van Buren and 5th street.

http://www.azcentral.com/CrimeMaps/...nix&zipcode=85004&location=&days=365&category=

to get other areas, change the zip code. if you don't put in the zip code and search for all of phoenix for full year, it doesn't seem to return all incidents, probably cause there is too many 🙁

One feature I liked about the downtown campus was the safety features of the buildings. Students talked about riding bikes to campus, walking home at night, etc and feeling safe. Our group met the security guard who trolls around on a golf cart and was very helpful to me when I couldn't get into the buidling - interesting note, the entire campus is controlled access, even TGen. The level of research conducted makes it important to keep the buildings secure. I found that interesting, not good or bad.

Does Tucson have a similar map?

What is the most appealing about this school? Also, what is the class size that they are trying to fill for the class of 2016?

When I interviewed last year, I was very impressed with how collegial the atmosphere was. The students were all upbeat and happy and the staff were pleased to see us. The facilities are good, thanks to the new building, and they're expanding their partnership with PCH. The class size is 80 people.

I am scheduled for the Jan. 30th's interview and does anyone know whether this date is late or not? I heard that Feb. 13th is the last interview date for COMPHX.

Hurray! I just got an interview invite.....but the awkward thing is I can't access the "Schedule Interview" area. It says the access is restricted.

This seems kind of odd to me. Anyone else having that problem? I'll have to call tomorrow since it's way past business hrs.
