Amen. For whatever it's worth, I didn't have research experience when they interviewed me last year. I have 11 months of it now... no interview.
Sorry to hear that you're having a frustrating time with this process, but I don't think it'll do any good posting about your situation everywhere in SDN 🙂

For all those curious about research experience, I don't think research really makes or breaks your app, unless the school your applying to only cares about research and can overlook some lack of social skills or w.e as long as you're a boss at the lab bench. I think the ADCOMs just like to see that you have intellectual interests outside of school. Several of my friends have way more research experience than me and have had no luck yet in this cycle. Do research because you want to, not because its something you can put on AMCAS and because your peers are doing it. Its also about how you sell your research, saying I did 11months of research doesn't make you a better candidate for med school. What did you learn during your experience? Reflect a little bit. Good luck and to the people commenting on the snail mail, I really was surprised that they were so personal. UAPHX is awesome!

I am hoping that the very act of whining annoys the ADCOMs (psychically, of course) into giving me an interview.

In all seriousness, I don't know a single other person that's going through this process. Hence, I tend to (ahem) throw myself into SDN a little more. Pay me no mind, I'll just sit in the corner rocking back and forth while quoting average stats for each school.

+1 - that's a great image

How long after the acceptance video email did you guys get the snail mail?

It comes certified mail, so you may have to go pick it up if you aren't home. I got it several days after, but I live far away.

Ha, not just psychically, though - keep in mind that it's best to be cool and respectful on SDN (not that you haven't been, I just figure this is a good reminder to mention this) because I know at least at UACOM-Phx some of the members of the adcom read through this thread from time to time... when I showed up for orientation in 2009, they named me as 'Brrooother' and my classmate as 'MadEvans' in front of everyone!

I'm already in deep trouble when it comes to anonymity. I simply hope I'll get the chance to be called "BrandNewDay" at their orientation. Still my top choice... though I seem to be unloved this cycle around...

Thanks for that! Also, do you guys know how difficult it is to obtain AZ residency for tuition purposes?

I just got a driver's license and registered my vehicle here when I moved to the state, residency was granted one year later. I did work part time and file a state tax return though.

This question came up at my interview Q&A session, and the answer was that if you are applying this year and don't already have residency, you can't get it before matriculation. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is straight out of the mouth of the admissions person at this school.

This is true in my experience. I moved to Arizona for undergrad and even after living here for over a year, I was unable to get residency status for tuition purposes. When I petitioned for residency, I was told by the committee that in order to be considered a resident for tuition purposes, I would have to live and work in AZ for a year without taking classes at the U of A. Hence, I am applying to medical school this year, after having graduated and worked for over a year.

Has anyone who was accepted last Monday (12/05) received their snail-mail packet yet? Just wanted to check because I have not yet received mine, and I live not too, too far away from Phoenix (around 600 miles).

My acceptance letter was postmarked the day after my acceptance, but it took quite awhile to arrive, if I remember correctly longer than it usually takes when my friends in CA mail me stuff.

And if you haven't yet, check your pms 🙂

It also takes longer to receive the snail mail if no one is home when the mailman comes...The mail is Certified Mail that requires a signature.

Hmmm . . . I haven't received on of those "we missed you" notices that there is a piece of certified mail available at the PO . . . uh oh.

More acceptances should be coming out today....so post on here if you get one. Fingers crossed!

I initerviewed way back in october and have not heard back yet. Probably a bad sign huh?

Of course it is ideal to get picked soon after your interview, but unless you've been formally rejected, there's no reason to worry. Plenty of people get their acceptances long after the interview. Or you could end up on a high waitlist position, which basically guarantees you an acceptance after others turn down theirs. This school doesn't let you know where you finally stand until early March. At that point you will know if you've been rejected, accepted, or waitlisted. Remain optimistic until it's all over. It is not even worth thinking about until March, since there is nothing you can do to affect the outcome.

I've interviewed in September and am still waiting. Looked over last year's thread and some people were accepted 2-3 months after their interviews, and the med students claim that a lot of their classmates were accepted in the later release dates than early

Dear Applicant,

We would like to inform you that although you weren't selected in this round, there are four more opportunities for acceptance and to be placed on the waitlist. Your application is still under consideration and we will follow up again after the next round of acceptance. Applicants will not be rejected until the end of March.

We understand this is a lengthy process and we appreciate your patience.

Thank you,

Tanisha Price-Johnson
Director, Admissions

Received 3:25 pm. You got to hand it to PHX, they are being very transparent, which is nice.

So is this from Phoenix? I got the same thing but wasn't sure if it was from Phoenix or Tucson.

Do they send this to everyone? When did you guys interview? I didn't receive anything today

Yea, never received anything like that either for the past 2 months after my interview

Tanisha Price-Johnson is Director of Admissions at Tucson, not Phoenix. If the email came from a COMPHX address, then you'd know it's from Phoenix.

Cool, lol didn't even realize. So did anyone hear from Phoenix today? Isn't today one of the scheduled release dates?

Oh crap, thanks for pointing that out guys. I was so excited about Phoenix releasing seats today I didn't even notice that was from Tucson. I wasn't expecting to be eligible for Tucson seats yet because my interview was so recent. Sorry for the confusion everyone!😀

Sooooo... all quiet on the western front I guess.. did they not send out acceptances today?

They probably did, at least according to their calendar. Statistically speaking, it is unlikely that there will always be someone accepted that is active on SDN. Also, keep in mind, that so far it appears the number of acceptances per rolling period appear to be less than 15, making room for more acceptances in March: keep your hopes up.

I disagree that it is unlikely. Conservative estimates of 50% of applicants being on SDN and 10 people accepted this round give a 1/1024 (0.1%) chance of none of the accepted applicants being on SDN. Even if only 25% of applicants are on SDN that is still only 5.6% chance that no one on SDN got accepted.

I think you used the wrong equations...

(percentage of applicants not on SDN)^(#accepted)=likelihood that none of them were on SDN. Although I didn't need an equation, it's not that complicated a question. 50% chance that first person accepted is not on SDN times 50% chance that second person accepted is not on SDN times 50% chance that third person accepted is not on SDN... etc. = (1/2)^10 = 1/1024.

I doubt 50% of applicants are on SDN, and the number of people "on" SDN who actually post is even less.

Well that's a good point. It's hard to say how many are on SDN. If only 10% of the applicants were on SDN that's a 34% chance that none of the accepted people are on SDN, which pretty much agrees with oldfogey's assessment that it is unlikely that there is always someone on SDN. I guess I just had a differing perception of how many people use SDN.

On the other hand, I think a lot of people follow the posts and their first post is to announce their acceptance, so I don't know, I just feel like somebody would have posted by now if Phoenix accepted people yesterday.

Hopefully I can clarify the issue. I interviewed yesterday, they said they were sending out acceptances and I know someone who was accepted yesterday.

Accepted yesterday! Interviewed in October, so there's still hope if you interviewed early!

Good luck to everyone who's still waiting for an acceptance!

So I saw that some people mentioned they were on pre-interview hold...is that something the school notifies you of? I submitted mine on October 5th and am still waiting to hear from UA Phoenix. And already have an invite from UA Tucson...would love to hear good news from Phoenix too! :xf:

Hey! I've been a long time SDN lurker and this is my first post. I got accepted to Phoenix monday, interviewed end of the November. I also know a few other people that got accepted this past monday, so Phoenix did send out several acceptances. But I'm sure that there is still much hope for those applicants that are still being reviewed! Good luck everyone!! 🙂

What the heck does this mean?

Does anyone know the stats of how many they interview and acceptances, or how many apps they get etc etc? how many in state vs out of state?

I just got this same email. I am also curious about what it means?

It seems like they are sending it to those who haven't received an II but haven't been rejected yet. Just trying to update applicants on what is going on and what should be expected by Jan 20.

Yeah, I got that e-mail and it really got my hopes up because I had just made my travel arrangements for my Tucson interview last night and was looking forward to eagerly rearranaging everything. But it looks like it was just an e-mail for all of us that haven't gotten an II that we're going to know our situation by January 20th if we're going to get an II at all.

Hmmm. . .

I didn't receive any email from them today, so I'm guessing that isn't a good sign. I haven't heard anything from them in over 3 months, so at this point, I wasn't too optimistic, but this seems to confirm that Arizona isn't as interested in me as I am in them.
