wait..there is only one day left in each of those months?

From what I recall, UCI only interviews 1-2 days/month, so there ends up being a much larger number of students at each interview day. December I'm pretty sure only has one date since half of the month is taken up by Christmas break.

I don't think I've ever posted on SDN before...I've been a lurker for many years...even during my MCAT days. I hate to admit it...but I'm a SDN addict.

I figured its time to pay it forward and actually post, hopefully giving all you fellow SDN members and lurkers some hope.

I'm an average IS applicant, average MCAT (31), average GPA (3.5)...even pretty average looking, haha. Although I guess I'm tall for being an Asian male...most of my application is fairly average. I'd like to think my strengths are in activities, although in a pool of 120843048324 applicants, they are also probably pretty average.

I was complete at UCI 8/8 and under review until today, where I just received and interview invite 😱! If there's hope for me, there's hope for all of you. Just to give a heads up, absolutely NO email notifications, even after I scheduled my interview...so check your online status daily. Also...one day each in December, January, Febuary and March are all open. I'll be there December 12th and looking forward to meeting other applicants and a shot at attending this awesome school.

Yeah, there are two interview days per month, not sure about December though. They probably opened up select days so far in advance so you had more flexibility in your scheduling.

you know i was just thinking that. every year it gets more depressing with higher numbers of more competitive applicants. if uci is already using march dates, how many more interview dates are left, 4-5 max?

I think what MiniMoo said is correct about UCI having fewer interview dates but way more interviewees there per date. Conversely, UCSF has way more interview dates but that's because there's only 9 people that interview per date. The number of interview dates can be really misleading, not to worry.

I also think that public schools tend to have fewer dates than private schools, but that's just my conjecture.

I interviewed on October 3 but was placed on the waitlist 🙁 - did you check your status online? waitlist people are not notified via email...

actually, i interviewed on october 17 but haven't heard anything yet--it's just that i hadn't heard of anyone reporting from even the 3rd so just wanted to guesstimate how long it takes to hear back. i'm sorry about the waitlist--that'll probably happen to me too 🙁

Interviewed here on Monday and I had a wonderful experience. I was very impressed with the students and they seemed really happy to be there. I did not see that with the students at UCLA. UC Irvine has been a top choice for me, but after this interview, they ARE definitely a top choice for me should I get accepted here.

Another day could possibly open up in April if necessary. I'm not sure which dates are filled at the moment. As has been mentioned before, there are between 30-40 applicants per interview day. The initial review of all submitted applications should be complete by the end of November, although interview invitations will be offered on an as-needed basis up until the last interview date.

Have you tried sending an update letter and/or letter of interest? I had a friend do this and then got a secondary soon after. Its worth a shot

just sent one, because why not? UCI has a great program, but it seems like they've already made a lot of decisions =/

I'm interviewing next Monday, and I requested to do an overnight stay with a student host a few weeks ago. They replied and said they would set me up with someone, but I've been following up with email this past week & I haven't heard anything at all. Does anyone know when they will have contacted you by if you are staying with someone?

I'm interviewing next Tuesday, and I did the same thing as you, with no response back about hosting. When I sent the coordinators an e-mail about it, they replied back saying that they would be finding me a host, but were just swamped at the moment (they had a big exam yesterday). Just sit tight, they should be letting you know soon 🙂

Yeah, a big micro test. The student coordinators WILL find you a host if there is one available.. they email the whole class when they need to.. I would NOT suggest emailing them multiple times because you're worried they forgot.. they won't forget and the emails don't help.

That being said... GOOD LUCK ON TUESDAY. After talking with my classmates, most of us are just looking for an enjoyable conversation over lunch : )

I never took statistics, I took Biometrics which incorporated Statistics...

They do require statistics. If biometrics covered most of the concepts in statistics you'll be fine. they just don't want you to be left behind when you cover the subject quickly during the first year.

Not having the course won't prevent you from being accepted, they'll just ask you to take a stats class before you start in August.

Yeah, just the two photos. Didn't need anything else when I was there that I can remember--definitely not any residency documents. Good luck!

Ah, thanks. I've been on the "initial review complete" since about August lol. I've even sent them a few updates but so far no love!
