The trend seems to be that notifications occur a month after the interviews. At least that's what they've done so far.

Yeah, if they weren't closed for the holiday I think we would hear this week. 🙁 Oh well, only two more weeks of waiting. 😉

Ever optimistic, I have a feeling that letters were mailed COB Friday and will be showing up in the next couple of days, providing us with yet another thing to be thankful for (along with turkey).

However, if I am forced to wait it out and just be happy for turkey alone, (sweet, delicious turkey), I will happily wait another week to have an envelope to put underneath the Christmas tree. The most diminutive, expensive, and awesome Christmas present ever.

I am hoping this is true, but if not, I would agree to happily wait for what will be the best (and most expensive) birthday and early Christmas present EVER!!! 😍😍

Congratulations!

I am really looking forward to my interview next week. I received my first acceptance last week. Definitely takes some of the pressure off so hopefully I will go into my interview nice and relaxed and completely rock it so I don't have to wait until March. That is just going to be torture waiting that long.

Good luck to everybody still waiting on your letters!

Thanks for the good wishes and I hope the best of luck to all of you still waiting/interviewing as well. It'll all sort itself out so in the mean time enjoy the ride!

Does anyone know about the Kansas service loan program? I'm like 99.9% sure I want to do pediatrics, so can I apply for that loan and then do 4 years of primary care service in Kansas after residency and then have no med school debt? It sounds too good to be true. Anyone know more about this or if there are any current KU med people around, what is the process like and is it as awesome as it sounds?

Yes, from my understanding if you commit to Fam Med, Peds, IM, EM, or geriatrics, you can qualify for this loan program. They pay full tuition plus 2K stipend per month. After you complete your residency (can be anywhere, doesnt have to be at KU as long as it is one of the fields listed above) you must practice 4 years in an 'underserved' area in Kansas. The awesome thing about this is there are only 4 counties in the entire state that aren't considered underserved. Heck, even Wyandotte County, where KUMC is located is underserved, therefore you could practice about anywhere in Kansas to repay the commitment. It is such a good deal, if I were 99.9 percent sure I wanted to practice in one of the above, I would def do it. Also, if you were to do the program and decided to pursue a specialty instead, the scholarship basically becomes a loan that you would have to repay. The catch is the interest rate is roughly 15 percent I believe, so it is certainly best to be sure that you want to practice peds. Hope this helps...

Very helpful, thanks! I can always do a fellowship to subspecialize in peds after I do the service for four years. Basically you can't work in Topeka, Lawrence, Johnson county, or Wichita....and that leaves quite a few options open for sure! How/when do we apply for the loan? Do a lot of people apply who don't get it?

Same here...

I think its time we start up a facebook page for the Class of 2016.. Anyone who is facebook savvy wanna start one up?

Just got done with my interview. I felt like it went fairly well. Both of them were very laid back. I loved the school! The students had nothing but good things to say about the faculty, curriculum and fellow students.

We were told letters should be sent out no later than the Friday before Christmas. I'm really hoping that letter can serve as my b-day and Christmas present :xf:

Sorry if this was mentioned earlier and this is a repeat, but just as an FYI, the *** loan can also be applied retroactively. So if you don't know what you want to do when you start and later decide that one of those specialties is for you, you can apply *** money to your previous loans

I randomly logged in today and my file know says file complete 11/29 at the bottom...
but I 've been complete since 8/1

is this an unofficial rejection? anyone else in the same boat? =(

no, they don't update the meds page. You will hear from them by e-mail for an invite, or a letter for a rejection at the end of the season.

good luck to you!:xf:

There is always hope. Because you are oos you will have to wait a little longer to hear back. I believe they are waiting until Feb to interview oos, unless they changed things around this year. They usually re-interview ed applicants in jan, then oos in feb.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes, I can't wait to get started!

Anybody considering doing the Kansas Medical Student Loan program? I am considering EM and I also want to practice in KS. As many negatives as there are with EM though I hate commiting to it now.

As KSDeacon stated, you can always apply for it retroactively.

Does anybody know with the retroactive loan, will they repay loans taken out for living expenses up to the $2000/month stipend they give when you do the program from M1?

I am going to do the program. You might as well do it. If you change your mind, just pay back the loan.

This is a good theory and all but the interest rate is at 15% if you approach it this way, insanely high.

I think (think being the operative word) that they will repay all of the loans that you take out. I'm not actually on *** so I don't know for sure, but I think if you email the financial aid office they'd tell you for sure

still haven't gotten that packet yet! I really want to make it official!

+1

I think we are just trained to be anxious about the next thing. We are already accepted but still on the edge of our seats about an information packet to arrive.

Spoke with the admissions people and they said this was the week for packets!

If this is the week for admission packets, hopefully next week is the week for acceptance letters :xf:

Good luck! I hope you hear some great news for Christmas...

Did everyone else get the email yesterday? Looks like the packets won't be coming until after the New Year. Hope everyone has a great holiday.

This is what I can tell you, its open to everyone, but there are only 9 KML made per year until year 3. The down side is that the 15 students that are in the Scholars in Rural Health program get 1st dibs on them. So if your not in that group, its pretty much pointless to apply from what I have been told.

Do you mean there are only 9 awarded to incoming MS1s?

From what I have read there is a total of 120 loans provided:

"The Kansas Medical Student Loan (KMSL) program provides tuition and living expenses for 120 students every year."

So are the majority of these given to MS3s?

After reading and considering it, I am not willing to commit to primary care this early anyway. So year 3 is probably the earliest I would apply for it (this is all assuming I am accepted).

I know you'll all probably hate me for bumping this thread without having any meaningful news to share, but if I remember correctly, there's a chance decisions will go out this week. The anxiety is driving me up the wall, in no small part because I'll be on vacation (and unable to check my mailbox) for the next 3 weeks.

Good luck, everyone!

Accepted! Got my letter today, interviewed on 11/28. I live in Boston, MA so letters must have been sent awhile ago. Good luck to everyone still applying- this was my third time applying to KU, so persistance definetly helps. While I hope you all get in, if you don't get into KU but still want a school in the area I would really recommend KCUMB in Kansas City, MO. Otherwise, see you at KU in August!

I just received the mail! Accepted!! First acceptance and I could not be happier. Lysase, congratulations! We just might be future classmates!
