Yeah. I kinda have a feeling we wont hear until Dec 2nd. 🙁
The trend seems to be that notifications occur a month after the interviews. At least that's what they've done so far.

Ever optimistic, I have a feeling that letters were mailed COB Friday and will be showing up in the next couple of days, providing us with yet another thing to be thankful for (along with turkey).
However, if I am forced to wait it out and just be happy for turkey alone, (sweet, delicious turkey), I will happily wait another week to have an envelope to put underneath the Christmas tree. The most diminutive, expensive, and awesome Christmas present ever.
*UPDATE*
Checked the mail today and did in fact have a letter sitting there from KU, and....
Put on hold! Woo hoo! Can't wait until mid-March!
*OOS, Interviewed 11/1
I don't have a clue, have pretty normal stats, but I am grateful for the opportunity. KU is an amazing school!
OOS, interviewed on 11/8, also got a letter in the mail today. Accepted!!!!!

Does anyone know about the Kansas service loan program? I'm like 99.9% sure I want to do pediatrics, so can I apply for that loan and then do 4 years of primary care service in Kansas after residency and then have no med school debt? It sounds too good to be true. Anyone know more about this or if there are any current KU med people around, what is the process like and is it as awesome as it sounds?
Yes, from my understanding if you commit to Fam Med, Peds, IM, EM, or geriatrics, you can qualify for this loan program. They pay full tuition plus 2K stipend per month. After you complete your residency (can be anywhere, doesnt have to be at KU as long as it is one of the fields listed above) you must practice 4 years in an 'underserved' area in Kansas. The awesome thing about this is there are only 4 counties in the entire state that aren't considered underserved. Heck, even Wyandotte County, where KUMC is located is underserved, therefore you could practice about anywhere in Kansas to repay the commitment. It is such a good deal, if I were 99.9 percent sure I wanted to practice in one of the above, I would def do it. Also, if you were to do the program and decided to pursue a specialty instead, the scholarship basically becomes a loan that you would have to repay. The catch is the interest rate is roughly 15 percent I believe, so it is certainly best to be sure that you want to practice peds. Hope this helps...

Kansas Medical Student Loan
This loan is established to encourage students of Kansas to practice primary care medicine in the State of Kansas. For the people of Kansas, the State Legislature has established the Kansas Medical Student Loan Program to assist students at KUMC. The Kansas Medical Student Loan is awarded on an annual basis, in return for agreements to practice medicine in Kansas after residency. For additional information please review our KMSL informational sheet at KMSL - Information Sheet.
Deadline: February 14th for first year students
Application: www.fafsa.gov and *** Application
Does it have to be repaid? Any person who fails to satisfy the service obligation must repay within ten (10) years to the University of Kansas an amount equal to the sum of money received in tuition payments and living expenses plus interest at the rate of 15 percent, from the date such money was received, with the first installment payment commencing 6 months after the date of the action or circumstances that causes the failure of the student to satisfy the obligations of this agreement.
Award Maximum: Medical student tuition and monthly stipend
Need based: No

Does anyone have an idea as to when we should receive that packet in the mail?
Has to be pretty soon."Later this fall," as they said, is right about now. I keep going to the mailbox excited each day...Hopefully not too much longer...
Just got done with my interview. I felt like it went fairly well. Both of them were very laid back. I loved the school! The students had nothing but good things to say about the faculty, curriculum and fellow students.
We were told letters should be sent out no later than the Friday before Christmas. I'm really hoping that letter can serve as my b-day and Christmas present![]()
Same here...
I think its time we start up a facebook page for the Class of 2016.. Anyone who is facebook savvy wanna start one up?
I randomly logged in today and my file know says file complete 11/29 at the bottom...
but I 've been complete since 8/1
is this an unofficial rejection? anyone else in the same boat? =(
no, they don't update the meds page. You will hear from them by e-mail for an invite, or a letter for a rejection at the end of the season.
good luck to you!![]()
Thank you so much! I was quite worried. Being OOS I know its slim but here's hoping!
Anybody considering doing the Kansas Medical Student Loan program? I am considering EM and I also want to practice in KS. As many negatives as there are with EM though I hate commiting to it now.
As KSDeacon stated, you can always apply for it retroactively.

I am going to do the program. You might as well do it. If you change your mind, just pay back the loan.
This is a good theory and all but the interest rate is at 15% if you approach it this way, insanely high.
Does anybody know with the retroactive loan, will they repay loans taken out for living expenses up to the $2000/month stipend they give when you do the program from M1?
still haven't gotten that packet yet! I really want to make it official!
Spoke with the admissions people and they said this was the week for packets!

If this is the week for admission packets, hopefully next week is the week for acceptance letters![]()
This is what I can tell you, its open to everyone, but there are only 9 KML made per year until year 3. The down side is that the 15 students that are in the Scholars in Rural Health program get 1st dibs on them. So if your not in that group, its pretty much pointless to apply from what I have been told.
