the main advantage is obviously the quality of clinical opportunities available within TMC. other than that, UT-H is a fantastic environment for a student. the faculty and employees seem to really care about our concerns and want to improve our educational experience however possible. the student body as a whole are incredibly supportive and friendly. it's really a pleasure to get to know not only your classmates but the classes below you. I think they do a great job of picking people who are not only smart but have great personalities (except for me) and interesting stories.
the one thing I've noticed that's changed in my opinion of medical school from an applicant to where I am now is the priority I place certain things in, like curriculum, location, cost, student body, clinical opportunities, etc. I think it wouldn't be bad to ask students what they think are important factors that you should consider when forming your match list, then ask them how they think their school does in those areas. I'm hoping they might say things like location is important, student body cohesiveness, learning environment, etc being pretty high, whereas things like curriculum, match list, school rank, etc being lower. I feel like some factors can sort of make or break the med school experience, and that interviewees often have their priorities wrong. but I'd be interested in hearing what other med students have to say... it might be worth asking them when you're on the interview trail.
