Anyone else still waiting to hear back from UTSW admissions after mailing back the acceptance form?

I faxed my form and it took a couple of days to hear back. I did call and email Anne McLane to check if they'd received the form and she looked it up for me. She is very helpful. You should not hesitate to contact her if you have any questions. I found it was better to email her rather than call because her secretary answers the phone and you have to explain the situation twice.

I was really surprised to get an II for 1/7 today. I submitted my application back in early June and interviewed at 4 other schools starting in early August! I'm thrilled to get it - I'm not sure if there's any significance to the huge delay or the interview slot at the very end of the interview season...

You weren't invited to the first round of interviews but you were to the second.

It's pretty simple..

Interviewed 12/03 and just got a pre-match email. Amazing. UTSW is a dream come true.

Class of 2016!

Congrats! I interviewed on the same day but no good news 😳

Well, the week is young.

Heck, the cycle is still young.

Acceptances go out until June (preferably you'll hear back earlier, but you never know with these sort of things).

Does anyone know how many people they invite for interview for the MSTP program? And how many interview dates are there for that program?

THANKS!

Apparently today is the last day they are giving out prematches and will not give any more acceptances until February...

Good luck everyone :scared:

I interviewed 12/10 and an admissions student rep told me that the adcom meets every thurs. We prob won't hear until sat/mon since they need a day to take care of paperwork. Also, med school closes down for the holidays next week.

Well when I interviewed in November they said the 15th was the last day. Maybe it was just supposed to be around this day. I tried calling Anne McLane but she wasn't in so I emailed her. I'll let yall know what I find out 🙂

I, too, wish the best for all of you waiting to hear something from UTSW very soon. I hope you all can keep from getting too caught up in the waiting despite that clearly being much easier said than done. I look forward to seeing some good news here shortly!

The hard part about waiting, is slowly watching you chances of getting in die. This is how my number-hungry brain interprets it.

UTSW accepts 2/3 of their applicants on pre-match. This means that when we go into interview, we can expect our chances of getting in at around 330 acceptances out of probably 800 interviewees (75 people per day and there are 11 days). This puts your chances of getting in at 41% if you get an interview (this assumes that out of state and mstp are the same as the in state applicants in all ratios).

However, if you do not pre-match, then there are only around 75 slots left open off the wait list. Which means that if you do not pre-match, your chances of getting in are around 75/550 or 13.6%. Thus if you don't make the pre-match, your chances of getting in fall by a factor of 3. Or from around 4 out of 10 to just over 1 out of 10. In other words very bad chances of getting in after the pre-match.

Gotta love the math thinking. Wish it could help with medical school admissions instead of just making me freak out!

Who says everyone that pre matches goes to UTSW. There is Baylor. And also the students who are qualified enough to prematch may get into other top schools around the nation.

since he's talking about total acceptances, I think the numbers accurately reflect those people who will choose to go elsewhere.

Thank you for the numerical assessment. I look forward to going to school with others like myself.

also, I'm thinking that they may have to be more careful with offering OOS acceptances. They said that last year they offered 43 acceptances for 23 spots. But, since there isn't much room for error, they probably didn't offer too many more than the 23 spots for right now. I'm wondering if these have a higher likelihood of becoming available as more people decline their acceptances later in the cycle.

*sigh*

Thanks for the understanding! I thought my post might just go into the void!.

I am guessing that Southwestern's policy for both in state and out of state is to never have more acceptances than spots. So as people withdraw there are number of additional acceptances off the waitlist at the last minute.

It is interesting that the OOS and MSTP probably have a higher acceptance to final spot ratio than the in state students. Your 23 to 43 number is exactly what I expected and implies my analysis is slightly on the conservative side. It might make the final in-state probabilities fall off by a factor of four fall off for in-state students.

Unfortunatley, I am not in yet so you may have to look for another like minded number nerd. It's been a very challenging process for me, as I have several very strong personal reasons for attending and have seen only sporadic compassion or encouragement from the admissions committee. I crunch the numbers to help deal with my angst. I guess it's my way of trying to calculate the improbability of my final acceptance in order to bring it into reality with my personal improbability drive.😱:scared::laugh:

Hahaha. I knew the stats you quoted, as well. ...so much for trying to alleviate a little anxiety.

I used a total acceptances of about 330 relative to a class size of 239 which I think is pretty standard for Southwestern.

They accepted 397 people last year according to USNEWS. I believe ~100 are from the alternate list so there's still hope :luck:

That is really interesting because it actually mean more like 170 waitlist acceptances, which is way higher than I thought or had been led to believe. Well after all they are just numbers and for each person it's really a logistic (0 or 1 outcome) issue. I guess no one gets 50% into medical school!

Anne McLane emailed me back after I asked her when the last prematch decisions will be sent out. This is what she said (she is such a nice lady🙂)

.Thank you for writing. Today, or into next week… the decision is not set. We will stop before the holidays and resume rolling admissions after February 1st, 2012..

.Wishing you great holidays and a wonderful new year,.

Nice! You should be getting something in the mail in a few days (I don't remember if the email mentioned that or not). 🙂

So I guess this means that people interviewing on Jan 7th (the last interview day) have no chance of a pre-match offer? 🙁

Since they can't offer pre-matches past December 31st, yes.

As of now and according to Ms. McLane's email, the last prematch batch already sent out?

Anyone else get an email from their interviewer?

None from my interviewers. I got 3 emails from students and 1 from a Professor, she said she presented my packet to the Admissions committee

For people who have interviewed: Any recommendations for which hotel to stay at? Also: Any tips for getting around campus and not getting lost lol?

(Merry Christmas all!)

Don't let google maps fool you, the DART stations to the north and east of campus are not very close, at least a 15 minute walk. And they only run every 30 minutes on the weekend, or something like that.

If you're looking for something less expensive, the Best Western Market Center is very close (across I-35 and south of campus) and very nice for the price. If you want something upscale there's plenty, a Hilton, etc., less then a mile away if you want to pay for it.

As far as getting lost on campus it won't be a problem. They'll make sure you get to where you need to be. They make sure of that.

Hey! I'd recommend the Residence Inn Marriott on the intersection of Stemmons/!-35 and record crossing. They have a free shuttle and a really nice driver that can drop you off and pick you up at set times or you can rent a car or walk it if you want.

i really liked the mcm elegante. they picked me up from DFW, drove me to and from utsw both friday and saturday, and dropped me off at love field. all were free and extremely convenient. the room was inexpensive too.

How many non-URMs with mcat scores between 30-33 actually get accepted by UTSW? Looking at MD apps I see a lot of people with 30-33 getting interviews but almost all of them are later rejected/waitlisted.

Oh, UTSW why are you such a tease? 🙂
