Exactly the same feelings here! It's like the level of nervousness I had the night before Match Day (when I got accepted), but it's every day now. This is gonna suck until either I get accepted or June 1st comes and tells me I can no longer get in since I'm a Texas resident already accepted to a Tx school. *sigh*

Haha! Don't you love how the anxiety comes and goes? You're sitting down reading a book, but you're body makes you feel like you're about to give a speech in front of a large audience. It would be nice to have an off switch for your brain! Or at least a filing cabinet, so you could lock away all of those anxiety-ridden thoughts. I agree, match day was pretty rough. It's not everyday you wake up with a 120 pulse!

Yup!! And no reprieve on the weekends because I got my interview invite near 5pm on a Sunday. So if they can work to give out interview invites then, then I guess they can work on waitlist acceptances then too, given there's a greater time crunch at this time of the year.

Well crap! Why did you have to tell me that? I've been taking the weekends off. :smack:

I think this is gonna be a dumb question...but I absolutely can't remember and have gotten a bunch of schools mixed up...SO, does UTSW use syllabi? or is it just lecture notes and books?

as far as i know, syllabi are available for sale in hard copy (~$15) for each subject, and they are also available as PDFs free online with the powerpoint slides for each lecture, books are "required" but most students don't buy them or they buy the really necessary ones like Netter's anatomy atlas etc

Syllabi are used extensively, and from what I understand can be used exclusively in many of the courses. I have heard that texts and supplemental materials are very helpful and/or required for anatomy and genetics, but the rest are usually completely syllabus based.

Yea this is pretty much correct. Syllabi for every class, you never really need to buy a textbook unless you want an extra resource. Exceptions are anatomy, which does have a syllabus but you probably want an atlas also, and genetics, which uses a textbook. If you want a print version of the syllabus they sell them at the bookstore and if you don't care about a print version (or want to print it yourself) they are available online for free.

Does this mean that if we don't hear back by June 1st, it is safe to assume we are rejected?

If you have an acceptance from another medical school in Texas, then yes. If not, then you can potentially receive an acceptance all the way up until class starts.

I just got an acceptance email! This is one of the best moments of my life -- this was my first choice by far! 😀

Accepted as well. OOS. going to be declining their offer, though. Good luck to those still waiting.

Me too!! Got the email about an hour ago!! I have been a silent observer and nonmember of SDN till today, but decided to join the convo in honor of this!! Congrats to everyone accepted today.

Congratulations and welcome to the class. Good luck Missorleans wherever you do decide to go. FYI there is a Facebook group

😍 Congrats to everyone that got accepted today!!! 😍

Any current med students: is there a particular cell phone service provider that has good service on campus and main hospitals? I know that some providers don't normally get good coverage in hospitals...as my plan is up for upgrade, figured I'd make sure it was with the right provider...

Hey I don't know if this helps and I hope someone else can confirm but I have been at utsw for the last 4 years using tmobile and I usually get good reception on north and south campus. A couple times I have been at the hospitals shadowing doctors and had good coverage too.

I get great service with verizon. Even in the carrels, which are notorious dead zones.

Hi everyone!! Me too! I have been following this forum for a long time, this is my first post here. Got accepted yesterday around 5pm, I was shaking for an hour. I am sooo excited to meet my new classmates!! Congrats to everyone accepted! Hang in there for those who are still waiting.

For those who are already accepted. How do we accept?? Is it in the official letter they will send us? The email from Ms. McLane was really short.

Thanks! I can't wait to meet you guys!!

Wow congrats everyone accepted yesterday. Great to see so much waitlist movement. Hopefully they are still accepting people, I would love, love to UTSW.

For those just accepted of the waitlist, do you mind sharin some of your stats? Including when you interviewed?

I replied to the email and accepted just for courtesy and peace of mind, can't hurt!

I just replied to the email, too. I guess when we get the formal letter it will have more instructions?
As for my stats: 32R MCAT, 3.76 cGPA, 3.61 sGPA. I interviewed 12/3.

you should receive a snail mail letter in about a week that you have to sign and mail/fax back but a courtesy response to the email would be nice too though not enough by itself.

I'd really appreciate your guys' input since you've all had success with the TMDSAS process. What did you do with your activity descriptions (simply describe the activity or saw what you learned from it)? Secondly, if you put an activity in two different sections, do you use the same description in both sections?

Thanks!!

i used the same description for the same activity in 2 different sections, but that's an interesting idea...i never thought about putting different slants on the same activity depending on whether it was classified as "employment" or "research." i imagine using the same description makes your application simpler to read.

the activities descriptions are so short (most of mine were 3 sentences) that I mostly just described the job duties. depending on how you word it i think just listing what you did can also show what you learned. you do get plenty of room in the essays to go more in depth so i think it feels practical to keep the activities section clear and to the point.

Thank you! One last question: for the secondary's 2nd question about the setting of your medical career, is it a bad idea to use a lot of examples of past experiences that support the setting?

Hey we interviewed on the same day 😀

seems like a good idea since you've got examples to show you know what you're talking about and not just making something up.
pretty sure I did that.

Thanks for the input, Missorleans! One last question to send UTSW to the top 🙂 . How did you guys interpret the secondary essay, just so I make sure I am writing about the write thing? Did you see it as a question regarding a private practice vs. partnership vs. hospital career, or a question about primary care vs. specialty, or did you take it an entirely different direction than either?

I've looked through a few blogs maintained by current medical students, two of which were attending BCM, and the others at northeastern schools. Does anyone know of a blog published by a current or former UT Southwestern student?

It is Wednesday again. Any acceptance sent out today?

Yeah I compulsively checked my phone yesterday afternoon. I am sure more emails will be sent soon; the FB group is not too full for what is supposed to be a +200 entering class plus several current students trying to sell books.

I don't know how much more of this I can take. This process is becoming detrimental to my health, seriously! It will all be over in 20 days, which seems like a lifetime.

Also, I feel like I've been compulsively checking my phone since February 2nd...

Hi all, I wish everyone luck with the wait list! I am applying to UTSW this next cycle and hoped to get your opinions on a TMDSAS question. I have a significant healthcare activity starting this month, so I put it in planned activities. Should I also put it in the healthcare section, or no since it is present/future?

Nothing here. 🙁

So either they didn't send out any acceptances today (I wonder why?) or they just went to people not on SDN...

I'm sure many of my fellow waitlisters are keenly aware of the insignificant, yet significant, pattern that appeared to emerge over the last few weeks. However, after looking at last year's thread, I think attempting to make predictions is an effort in futility. There were acceptances sent out on Wednesday as well, but also on Thursday and every other day of the week. The only prediction we can confidently make is that it will be a great surprise if an email finally does come our way! Good luck to you all; God knows we need it!

Do you talk like this in real life? 😛

Can't believe May 15th is so close. Thanks to those of you withdrawing (about time though!) and best of luck to all hoping to get of the UTSW waitlist.

Anyone know a site where one can buy UTSW merchandise/apparel?? Couldn't seem to find anything.

Also, I heard a rumor about the first 2 years being P/F for this incoming class of 2012, can any current students confirm/deny?

I heard the committee is talking but I doubt it would take effect for our year

I think they're trying to get approval for the entire first year being P/F for y'alls class.
