Hi all, I wish everyone luck with the wait list! I am applying to UTSW this next cycle and hoped to get your opinions on a TMDSAS question. I have a significant healthcare activity starting this month, so I put it in planned activities. Should I also put it in the healthcare section, or no since it is present/future?

You could probably go either way and it would be fine... if I were in your shoes, I would leave it only in the "planned activities." Then, after I'd done the activity for a while, I would send an update letter with more details. After a few months you'll be able to say something more worthwhile about it, like how it has impacted you, some specific anecdote, etc. AND it will give you an excuse to send an update letter!

So May 15th is coming up soon, I already withdrew from other schools and accepted the acceptance at UTSW. Do I still need to tell UTSW that it is my school of choice or it will assume so when I didn't withdraw from it?

As long as you have signed and sent in that form that came with your acceptance letter you're all set, as far as i know

Thanks! I did signed, faxed and received the confirmation that they got the form.😀

After looking at the application thread from the last two years, it seems that the deadline for accepted Texas students to receive an additional acceptance has been moved up. Is this the first year with the June 1st deadline? It looks like it was June 15th in previous years.

Yeah according to the TMDSAS website after June 1st no Medical school in Texas can offer an acceptance to another student who is already holding an acceptance to another Texas medical school.

This is my understanding and would love a clarification if I am wrong.

This is correct. From TMDSAS website:

"After June 1, no medical school in Texas may offer a position to an applicant already accepted by another medical school in Texas. This is the result of an agreement between the four UT System Medical schools, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, and University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth College of Osteopathic Medicine."

I'm not sure what the deadline has been in past years.

Thanks for the clarification. I read that excerpt some time ago, and I assumed the deadline had been June 1st since the initiation of this agreement. Then I looked at last year's thread and noticed student's receiving acceptances on June 5th discussing the decision they had to make between UTSW and another Texas school. I guess it doesn't really matter, it's just interesting that the date was moved up two weeks.

Sorry to spam this thread, but I'm in a bit of a time crunch. Any Aggies here? I'm a former student applying, and I need some info on what to input on AMCAS for the committee letter packet thing so I can get the letter of evaluation request form. OPSA said they could mail me the instructions, but that I need the info by Saturday at the latest. If you could hook me up with the info, or know a current applicant that hook me up with the info, it would be much appreciated.

Just shoot me a private message or something if you don't want to post here. Thanks.

Edit: nevermind, I got it

Waitlist movement confirmed: I'm accepted!!! Got the email this morning. Couldn't be more excited!!!

I'll try to hit them all:
In-state. Interviewed 12/3. Sent one update after being waitlisted. 35Q, 3.4c/3.25s

I'm not an Aggie... but you apply to all public Texas schools (except Baylor) for the MD-only program through TMDSAS. Apply to Baylor for MD-only or any Texas school for MD/PhD through AMCAS.

Thanks for the help. I've already submitted my TMDSAS, but A&M does a pre-med committee packet thing that they submit to the schools instead of individual letters. And you apparently need to enter that in a special way on AMCAS. I need the instructions on how to do that specifically from an A&M applicant.

Just got taken off of the waitlist today 😀 So, I really need some help here before I can go ahead and accept the offer. I'd love it you guys could please answer my questions.

1) What is the standard financial aid package that people have received? The other school I got admitted at offered me all loans. So, I'd like to know the standard financial aid offer if EFC comes down to 0.

2) How much did I miss on the MS0 weekend? The calender says that the retreat is only 3 days. Is it only 3 days? Or is there supposed 2 be a student run event before that?

3) Is there anything particularly important that I have missed?

You should get e-mails from administration catching you up on anything you may have missed.

As far as the retreat goes, the whole thing is student-run. If it goes as it has the past few years, there will be an afternoon event on Friday, and then the overnight retreat is Saturday and Sunday.

Just got unwaitlisted yesterday as well!! Now I will need to weigh my options between saving money and staying in my hometown or accepting the offer to UTSW... Definitely leaning towards UTSW at this point. Congrats to all others recently admitted!

34/3.9 IS

Can any current students comment on where the majority of UTSW students stay other than Medpark? The neighborhood around school seems kind of rough so I just wanted to check which apartments were safe (other than Medpark).

Recently accepted as well!

If I could add to Laplace's question, if anyone has any insight into where to look for a house to rent, I would greatly appreciate it. I have two relatively large dogs, so I really need a decent sized yard to accommodate them. I'm willing to sacrifice in terms of the commute if I can find what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance!

Hopefully that will tide y'all over until a med student can respond.

I talked to the folks at medpark yesterday. They have 1 or 2 more 2 bedrooms available. They say they will run out by next friday (6/1)

I called Anne Mclane Friday and she said she is still waiting for students with multiple acceptances to make their final decision. Basically, if they don't make their final decisions by June 1st, then those wait listed students with acceptances already will not be able to be accepted by UTSW. So, to those of you who haven't made their final decisions, please make your decisions quickly and allow those who have been patiently waiting to get off the wait list within the last 2 days. It will be a tough decision, but you will have to make a decision in the end.

I'll be honest... part of this problem seems easily avoidable if the schools did not just agree to this June 1 deadline. Any reason of benefit for it? Shouldn't kids holding two offers have to let them know before June 1 for this exact issue?

The deadline really is a double-edged sword. After it passes, the vast majority of wait listed applicants fall out of contention, and schools are left to choose from those without an acceptance anywhere. So all of the Texas schools have a strong incentive to fill their class before this date, but there's only so much they can do when applicants hold on to multiple acceptances.

I guess I assumed that anyone who got in off waitlist after May 15 would be told to let them know after a certain period of time but prior to June 1 if they had another offer on table already.

Even if the schools were left to choose from students with no acceptances anywhere, they are probably still great applicants because they made it up to the interviews. Also, I feel the June 1st deadline will actually force schools to pick students with no acceptances anywhere or people out of state with no Texas acceptances since already accepted students are out of the game. Anne Mclane told me they have been sending weekly emails to those with multiple acceotances but at that point it is out of their hands. She said it isn't over till it's over, so good luck to everyone.

You're right, I think we can safely assume that all those who interviewed at UTSW are fairly good applicants, so this specific school may have some decent options after the June 1st deadline. However, I don't believe this can be said of all schools in Texas, especially the ones whose interview pool is a bit deeper.

In any case, it seems that the deadline benefits both parties involved, but I would venture to say that it helps the schools more than the applicants. Without the deadline, it would be incredibly difficult for the schools to assess their incoming class, a problem compounded by the fact that most schools within the state have guidelines they must follow in terms of the number of IS applicants they accept.

With that being said, the deadline obviously has the potential to hurt both the schools and the applicants. Hopefully there's one more wave of acceptances for those still waiting. I was right there with you just one week ago, so I can definitely understand how you're feeling. One way or another, you can look forward to putting this process behind you. I know that's not much for consolation, but if the deadline affects you then you're definitely going to medical school, and you have something like a 97% chance of graduating, so life's not all bad 🙂

Edit: And just FYI, I was given until May 29th to make a decision.

Anyone accepted this week? I would like to think that there is still one more round of acceptances to go before tomorrow's deadline. I emailed Anne about it but have not received a reply!

I think she is busy. I just got in!!!! I was already holding an acceptance in Texas, so this was the last possible day for me!!

Stats: IS (but OOS undergrad), 33R, 3.55sci

woah, congrats! I guess it's game over for me since I already have an acceptance.

Do you know if the deadline is June 1st midnight, or at the end of the day tomorrow, 5pm?

I called for clarification. June 1st, 5 pm is the deadline. She said she was very busy as students are changing their minds the last minute....

Overlooking the fact that there are fewer than 24 hours remaining, this is very encouraging news!

My stats are not stellar. I think my science gap was 3.8 and my mcat was 29Q. I actually started calling Anne Friday....for those who still want to go to UTSW, I don't think it would hurt calling then emailing Anne reiterating why you should go to UTSW (try not to be generic as I am sure all those who read this tonight will be sending Anne an email..... She will be pleasantly surprised in the morning 😀) I.e. how it would help you personally and professionally... I know when i called today before the office closed, I just said my first name and she instantly knew my last name, so I guess my email last week left an impression. Goooood luck to everyone. I know this is stressful as I was in the same situation 5 hours ago...

I called admissions trying to speak with Anne, and was instead given some vague answer about today's deadline by someone else. She must be really busy.

I feel at this point, calling her will only pester her. When I called yesterday, they were all pretty nice about it. I really wish the best luck to all you guys still waiting. Perhaps, a personal email is the best option.

Just got an acceptance email. I called Anne personally to decline the offer so that one of y'all might still have a chance. Good luck!

I wonder how much movement there will be now that the people already holding an acceptance in Texas have taken off the waitlists. I was at MDA summer camp for a whole week and was surprised to see no new posts here when I came back.
