This is just the first round of interviews, so it isn't the time to worry. There was one person in last year's thread that was accepted on 11/15 with a 29.

Congrats on all the interview invites, can't wait to welcome y'all on interview day!!! Just going through orientation this weekend, and I've gotta say this is an absolutely amazing school!

It's ok bud, you definitely aren't doomed with a 30 and invites haven't been going around for very long so you are fine. Remember, this rodeo lasts until December so don't start talking to yourself about doom and gloom stuff in August, you will drive yourself to drinking.

Thank you everyone for the comforting words 😍

I'd say you'll definitely get an interview with that 4.0 (provided you have the normal extracurriculars) Good luck! :luck:

Thanks. I would like to think I have a normal ECs, tried to do a bit of everything. Good luck on your interview!:luck: it is really a nice campus, I did my shadowing at zale and st. paul university hospitals, got yelled at during one case at parkland 😀 still it was amazing.👍

congrats on the interview invites!

if you don't mind me asking, when did you guys transmit TMDSAS? I transmitted at the end of May (IS 3.8/34), and I was hoping to get a September invite since I'm swamped in October. I guess they're not going strictly by autoinvite numbers 😕

haha, ever since I came across SDN a few weeks ago I've gotten a lot more anxious >p

Haven't completed secondary yet.

Invited for interview (9/10/2011). (International 3.9/37). Definitely surprised... Congrats to all those who got interviews!!

Does everyone still see the "I'd like to change/confirm my dates" button even after selecting dates? I get no confirmation, can't tell if this is just normal or the system is acting up. May be because I have yet to submit my secondary

i see it still. i think it just means we can change our dates even after confirmation

Well, I'm dumb. Took too long to make a decision on changing my interview dates, so now I'm interviewing on 10/8.

I got an interview invite. Its for 9/10 I may reschedule though!

9/10 interview! Are any of you worried about classes next fall? All of my invites so far fall in the first 2 weeks of classes, and I'm starting to worry about missing so many lectures.

That being said... I am super excited for this visit, even though my stats aren't quite good enough by the crazy UTSW/Baylor averages.

Interview Invite for 10/1!! Unfortunately I can't go to the clinical rounds (no option for the day before my interview on the drop down menu.. 🙁 )

I got an invite here for 9/10 but haven't submitted my secondary yet...should I go ahead and fill it out asap? Also, I was able to confirm the interview but not the rounds the day before...it still says I need to confirm that. However, I can't figure out how to do it, can't find anything to click or whatnot. Any tips?

Finish that secondary.

You should be prompted immediately after you confirm your interview to RSVP for rounds. Not sure what's up.

No worries, I got mine last week and STILL haven't done my secondary. For rounds, click confirm dates again and you should have the option to select the round dates (but the ones for 9/10 might all be gone)

The spots that are available are changing depending on when the people who received invites are RSVPing. This afternoon, only 10/8 was available to me. About an hour ago, 9/10, 9/17, and 10/1 opened up.

I just saw the option for my interview date so I was able to RSVP for 9/30 Friday Rounds. Sweet I get the entire Southwestern experience!

The Friday rounds are what sold me on UTSW!!! Amazing clinical rounds cases and dinner to die for!

Damn.. all 9/9 for the rounds are taken. I only get the interview. 🙁 How the hell do you RVSP for the rounds anyway?

Check on the MyGateway page periodically. Yesterday when I received my interview invite I tried to RSVP for the Friday Rounds the day before but it wasn't in the drop down menu. I checked early this morning and the option for the day before my interview was available for both the rounds and the afternoon event. Yours might open up too.

On a side note, does anyone know if student hosts would be receptive to interviewers asking to stay on Thursday evening as well or is a hotel the only option for me?

It's definitely possible to stay both nights--it just depends on the student hosts who volunteered. Definitely ask!

Big congrats to everyone who has already received an interview invite!

A quick question, does UT Southwestern consider both the TMDSAS GPA and the one calculated on the secondary application, or just the one from the secondary?

I'm guessing both since many people have gotten invites without submitting the secondary.

Any MD/PhD only applicants receive some sort of confirmation that their AMCAS application was received by UTSW?

My AMCAS was verified a month ago.

Nope, the only I emails I have from UTSW are the TMDSAS primary and the secondary confirmation emails. I've been complete since 7/8.

Quick question: I have a lot of secondaries to work on and since I already got an interview, I was hoping to put off the UTSW secondary until later (still submitting a week before my 9/10 interview). Is this wise or would it indicate disinterest to the school?

Question as well: are there stats available re: how many people are accepted from interviews? I have MSAR access, but I don't think it has it.

I'd love to go to UTSW, but I'm worried my 33/3.8 isn't going to actually cut it, especially given my light research experience...

For in-state, MSAR reports 2,672 applicants, 730 interviews and 199 matriculants + 9 deferred. Schools with UTSW's ranking accept approximately double their number of matriculants (and deferred) so 2*(199+9) = 416. Corresponds to roughly 1 acceptance for every 2 interviews. With a 33/3.8, it's just about your extracurriculars and all those intangibles of your application.

That's odd considering the rumor that goes around about the people with a 3.7 + 32 getting an auto invite. I've never put much stock in that rumor though.

I thought it was 3.7/34, but I think they bumped up the MCAT cutoff to a 35 or 36 this year. That eliminates quite a few people.
As far as the rumor goes, it's true. I know a kid who landed an auto invite without sending in his secondary, and a few in this thread have also gotten auto invited as well.

If anything, they increased the GPA cutoff, increasing the MCAT cutoff wouldn't make too much sense because above 33 there's not that big of a difference. Also, can't be 36 since I have a 35 and I got an auto-invite.

Assuming the auto-invite rumors are true, 3.7/32 sounds reasonable. That 3.86/35 median sure is intimidating though.

At the risk of sounding insane, how "late" is an early October interview? I either have to reschedule UTSW or a different school...

are all the texas schools big on research?
I have no research and I got a vibe in my UTMB interviews that that is going to crush me. 🙁

UTSW's acceptance rate for interviewees is ~ 45% (from USNews).

Too lazy to look up the exact values, but it was ~300something acceptances / ~700 interviews

UTSW has a huge research focus.

I know that TTech-Lubbock/TTech-El Paso/A&M have a pretty heavy emphasis on primary care, so I would think that demonstrating a commitment to medicine would probably have a larger impact on an application than no research.

I've known plenty of UTMB students who got in with no research experience at all, if that means anything. I don't think I can really comment on UTH/UTSA, although San Antonio does seem to approach its review process very holistically.

I think it's like, half. The ones that are more focused on primary care tend to not care as much about research. The UTs are pretty big on research though, but I don't think it would hurt your chances at UTMB..

I rescheduled my UTSW date to October.

If you take at look at the list of interview dates on the UTSW website, you'll see that October is still pretty early on relative to most of the interview dates that UTSW offers. I wouldn't worry about. The person at the admissions office just chuckled when I called to ask if it was "bad" to move my interview to October, so I'm assuming it's not the end of the world. You can call them if it makes you feel better, though.

Thanks! You're pretty awesome.

Realistically I'm sure early October will be fine. UTSW is just the highest-ranked place I applied AND sort of a dream school for me, so I am just being neurotic...

On the plus side, the October date might mean I won't bake alive before my interview. It was apparently 108 here today in central Texas...

Yes and no.
UTSW/Baylor- hell yes. Big research schools. Not to say you can't get in without any but some people have akin'd it to playing behind the eight ball

TAMU,TTU's,UTMB,TCOM-Not really so.

That said having research has made interviewing easy so far. When you get a Ph.D interviewer it helps break the ice and provide some nice discussion.

That said in regards to the UTSW "auto-invites"

my guess is the criteria for the first round was 3.8+ and 35+. If you check the MDapps of those who gotten the first wave of invites, this seems to be the average numbers

I was complete on july 21, in state with 3.8 and 37... still no love from UTSW 🙁

That is really weird.... did you get the confirmation that they received your primary? You may want to call and check, something's definitely wrong considering my TMDSAS was transmitted 7/26, unless their GPA cut off for auto-invites is now above a 3.8

I would definitely suggest calling as well. Your stats are fantastic, and I am surprised you haven't heard anything yet. I'm sure you will eventually but it can't hurt to make sure they got everything. 🙂

Are we assuming that auto-invites only occurred for the very first round of interviewees? Meaning not the ones that have interviews in October (like me).

I did get their primary cofirmation on june 15 and secondary confirmation on july 21 and my status page says app complete. ..i don't know ..may be i should be a little more patient or bother them with my phone call at this point.
