Wow, can't believe they let me in after that horrible interview!!!!!! Always heard about what it feels like to be accepted to your top choice, definitely much better in real life.

Congrats to everyone and good luck to those still waiting!

when did you apply?

Have all the offers for today been sent out? Still trying to grasp for some hope of an acceptance :- /

so do most people who get accepted to utsw, get accepted today? in other words, if you didn't get accepted today, is all hope lost?

I doubt it. There are still some people who have not yet interviewed. There's also still the match if you don't get a pre-match offer.

Plenty of MS1s and MS2s I met during my interview day told me they waited until May or just "a long time." The dean even described a rare case in which someone got in the Friday before classes started this year.

There will be more acceptances before match and then a lot after match throughout the spring. I too know people who got in pretty soon before school started (though this is uncommon because if you have an acceptance at another school in the state of Texas June 15 is the last day you can get accepted).

Also, congrats to everyone who got in! Look forward to your acceptance letter because that's where they send out scholarship offers, and let me know if you have any questions about the school, Dallas, etc.

When do the acceptance letters typically arrive?

thanks for all the responses! definitely a lot more reassuring. utsw is definitely my #1 choice and i thought i had a good shot. congrats to everyone who got accepted though! back to the waiting game...

Don't lose hope guys!!! Last year, i interviewed on the very first day (9/11) and got in May 4...8 months of waiting...and numerous people got in April-June, as you can see from last year's thread.

great school!!:xf:

I interviewed 9/17.

Just a random question...last year I heard that they sent prematched applicants videos. Are they not sending them out this year?

I don't think we'll be getting videos this year

Interviewed 9/10.

Can any current students comment on how much free time they get during MS1 and MS2? How many times a week would you say you guys go out? Do you still find enough time to play pick up basketball games or work out and just hang out with friends? I know UTSW has a rigorous basic science curriculum but just want to make sure it's still possible to have a life LOL

Hey I was worried about this too, but you definitely have plenty of time to do stuff. First year we went out most Fridays and Saturdays, and we hung out all the time. At the beginning of the year it'll be tough with anatomy taking up a lot of time, but once its over, I was at the gym almost every day, no problem.

Second year is a little tougher, I still go out at least once every week usually, and the gym like 3-4 times a week. I'm actually very surprised with the amount of free time I have, I was not expecting to have this much.

I guess its hard for me to compare because I haven't been to any other schools, but I've found the workload to be fairly manageable, so you'll definitely be able to find time to keep doing the things you love to do. 😀

You absolutely have time to have a life. First semester you have the most commitments because anatomy lab goes until 4pm 3x/week. First semester is also pass/fail however, so that is the time to go out a ton and get to know your classmates. After anatomy ends you have a lot more free time (also because a lot of people stop going to class after the first semester). You have histology lab in the first half of the spring, but its not as long as anatomy lab and is not mandatory (pretty much nothing is ever mandatory besides colleges and exams). Second year is pretty predictable: 3-4 hours of lecture/day, small group (lab or pathology cases) about once/week, a test every 3 weeks like clockwork.

You will definitely study a lot, but there's still plenty of time to have fun and deans really push this too. If you aren't working out or going out you are going to start hating school pretty quickly.

Maybe some other students can chime in with their personal experiences--I am pretty boring so I'm not a good example. I do take about 1-2 nights off per week where I don't study at all (either because I'm staying home snuggled up with my tv or because I'm going out) and I also play some IM sports. I also have had time to travel a lot, either driving home or flying to visit college friends (5 trips this semester).

This guide was written ~4 years ago I think, so don't read too much into every tiny detail, but I think overall it can help you get a better idea about what classes/life is like.

Interview Invites for 12/3 !!!😍

Only sent in update on Monday.

Aww man! I had the option of interviewing on the 5th as opposed to the 11th. Seems like people who interviewed on the earlier date have had a response by now.

Congrats to those accepted!

I also interviewed on 11/12 and have not pre-matched. The student who took us on tour said this group was unlikely to pre-match on 11/15, but somehow I was hoping he was wrong. I guess he was not.

The admissions director said during the information session that people who interviewed on 11/12 would not be reviewed in time to pre-match on 11/15. He said Thursday was the earliest you can expect.
