Anyone know how many are matching this year at UTSW? Last year it was 2 and the year before it was 0.

Just wondering if people had an inside track on this one.

Just wondering: where did you get those #s? If it was from SDN, then not every pre-med is on here, so it may not be the whole picture.

Wondering as well where you got that info. On my interview day, they said that traditionally they match very few people, and admit most this late in the cycle by rolling admission post-match day.

Even the UTSW adcom doesn't know the answer to this, this is a useless question. They have already made enough offers to fill up their class. All matches will occur as a result of people with UTSW pre-matches ranking other schools higher on their list. After that, acceptances will occur on a rolling basis based on opening slots as more people withdraw.

Good luck to everyone who ranked this high on the match, tonight!

I could be wrong but isn't it a rule somewhere that if you start orientation, then not only are you by default holding only one acceptance, but no other med school may accept you if you are on their waitlist?

So even if you went to orientation and found out that you hated it, wouldn't you be stuck?

Or are you referring to MS0 (revisit) day?

Most of my classmates are either socially awkward or incredibly arrogant, and there are a few that are normal people that could become amazing doctors, if they weren't constantly stressed out by all the gunners around us.

Not downplaying what you're saying ... but I feel like this describes a pretty significant proportion of the pre-med population. My greatest difficulty in Ochem was dealing with the people, not the material

Last year they knew how many people they were matching. I had asked and they told me.

They can't know. Matches occur due to people holding UTSW pre-match offers and ranking a different school higher than UTSW. In the case that they get accepted to the other school they ranked higher, this opens up a spot for other people who have ranked UTSW as their #1 and did not get a pre-match offer. TMDSAS schools aren't even shown what you rank them.

Yes sorry I wasn't clear...I meant MS0 day. And yes there are awkward people in medicine but SW students are a different breed ...a lot of them are really young because they went to TAMS and have never really had the same social experiences as everyone else. I know they will come out of their shells but my main issue is with the arrogance here. It's so easy to be openly arrogant when you are smart, but it takes a real person to be able to show some humility. After one of our tests on a Fri afternoon, people started prereading at the lib for a class that was going to start Mon morning. And people make you feel guilty for having a life outside of school just because they don't have one.

DMN troll?
Just askin

So you really did just create an account to rag on your "classmates" then?

Well, I must say that my classmates are one of the things I love about Southwestern. They are smart and hardworking, but they are also kind, helpful, and very fun. There are a very few who are young (who are also great btw), but there are many more that are several years out of college or who are married with families. Everyone has their own and interesting experiences they bring to the table and the more I get to know them (by working in school with them or by going out) the more I like them.

It's confusing but they can know a minimum number, and they can guess about the rest. The minimum number will be the class size minus the number of pre-matches if they have any left over or if anyone has withdrawn their application since December 15th. (E.g. class size of 238 assume 230 pre-match and 3 withdrew, there would be at least 11 matches.)

There will be a few people who rank other Texas schools above Southwestern who pre-matched there, but that number is almost zero (in fact it was zero two years ago, and I think it was1 last year). So that minimum number -- which the admissions committee knows -- is very likely the number of matches.

In any case, the number will probably be very small. Less than 10 is my guess, but of course I could be wrong. And there are probably about 500 people waiting on those spots. So best of luck to us all 8.5 hours to go (okay...8.6)!

Did anyone match?

When do they email the wait list? Or have they already? I don't remember them saying if they had one or not during the interview day.

When do they email the wait list? Or have they already? I don't remember them saying if they had one or not during the interview day.

I got the email for being on the "alternate list" an hour and a half ago. It says:

January is now past and you may be wondering about your status on the UT Southwestern
Alternate List.

Are you on the UT Southwestern alternate list? As an interviewed applicant, as
long as you do not withdraw from UT Southwestern consideration, you are on the
alternate list. Receiving this email confirms you are currently on our alternate
list.

If you are holding a place at another school, is it still possible to receive
an offer from UT Southwestern. Yes. However, after June 1st no medical school
in Texas may offer a position to an applicant already accepted by another medical
school in Texas.

What about a letter of intent? Unless you withdraw your application from UT
Southwestern we will presume that you would consider an offer of acceptance from
us. That is not to say that you would come here, but you would think about it!
No additional letter is necessary.

What is your place on the list? UT Southwestern does not rank the alternate
list and will resume 'rolling' admissions as places in the class become available.

What should you do now? The hardest thing we can ask of you: wait.
There is nothing more you can do to alter, supplement, or improve your application.
We have your academic credentials, letters, evaluations, course reports.

What should you expect? You can expect an email from us later in the Spring with
updates about our alternate list. It is possible the 'update' will be 'no update'
as we cannot predict when/if additional seats will become available. We will
do our utmost to make the message as specific as possible knowing it will never
be as specific as you would like.

We will make additional offers of admission through the spring and summer as
accepted applicants withdraw to attend other medical schools or defer their enrollment.
At this time there is no way to know how many additional offers will be extended.

"wait." = 🙁

What a strange position waitlisting puts you in... there's in theory still hope, but if you hold onto it too much, and don't get in, you could end up bitter about where you actually matriculate!

UTSW is still my #1 choice, but I guess I'm better off considering myself "rejected" -- especially with the "please don't send us anything else!" policy they seem to have.

I wouldn't lose hope yet. As people have said before...somewhere between 75-100 people who end up matriculating at UTSW every year get in off the waitlist between Feb - Jun. There's still plenty of time!

....in other news, who all is EXCITED and ready for MS0 weekend???😀

Defs me.

So last year the same email was submitted to people on the Alternate List about not sending any letters to update. However, some people on SDN did send letters and it seemed like they were the ones that found success in getting in off the waitlist. Anyone considering this option?
