Did you guys receive an email about the II? I just checked my status page and found out I was offered an interview but there's no link to the interview dates. Is anyone else having this issue?

I received an email, and it told me to go to the applicant portal and there it had my interview date which asks you to confirm or decline.

Rejected today. Didn't even get in the pool. Should I email them to ask about ways to improve my application for future cycles?

Best of luck to everyone else! 🙂

I'm sorry to hear that Monocles. I heard that UVM won't share feedback until the admissions cycle is over. But, I have no confirmation of this. I just heard it from another applicant. Best of luck!

That's true. You have to wait until June to ask for feedback. But it's only until August.

Fair enough, thanks for your help! My only hope now is my state school. If I get a post-interview rejection then I'll be taking a year off to improve my clinical experiences and do some more research. 😳

Does anyone have any thoughts on the student hosting program?

Accepted from the OOS waitlist this morning! Wooo Whooo! 🙂

Congratulations ScoobySnacks! Do you know how long you were on the waitlist? I interviewed Feb 2nd but I got the impression that I wouldn't be reviewed until March when the committee is supposed to meet again. I interviewed on a Thursday and the committee was scheduled to meet the following week but we were told that a few of us may be reviewed but most of us probably not so I didn't bother checking my status. I just checked it on Friday on a whim and it said that I had been reviewed and was on the OOS waitlist......

I also read somewhere that there are three tiers on the waistlist.....

Does anyone know anything about that btw? Also, how in heck do you find out which tier you're in if you can't ask them about ranking and stuff?

Has anyone actually called admissions after being waitlisted?

Got rejected after being small pooled. Was in the process of writing an update/interest letter too...

Same here... I feel bad. A patient I work with who graduated from UVM years ago offered to write a letter for me and was so happy to do it... and he called the other day to say he put it in the mail. And just today I happen to check my online status and guess what, I'm rejected. Shucks. 🙁

If you don't mind me asking - when were you small pooled? I have been small pooled since December and according to these posts - probably receiving a rejection sometime soon =/

I am just speculating but maybe an instate waitlist, high priority OOS waitlist, and the one that I am on "Out-of-Area waitlist of qualified/alternate candidates"

I don't think the "Out-of-Area waitlist of qualified/alternate candidates" is necessarily low priority. That's what I was on and I got accepted about two hours after I was put on it.

There are only two waitlists: In state and out of state (area). The way they pull people off of each waitlist is not very clear and they make it like that on purpose: at least that is the impression I got. I was in the OOS waitlist for three months before being accepted.

Hey UVM Medical Students,

Disclaimer: I apologize if this was asked before, but I tried looking it up and could not find anything.

UVM is my top choice among the schools to which I was accepted. I've scoured SDN and read several descriptions and first-hand accounts of those other schools, and there were some negative aspects that I felt made the difference between me choosing them and choosing UVM. I was wondering if there were any current students who could speak to some of UVM's weaknesses or negative aspects (if there are any - because I couldn't find a single person who thought so). UVM seems to have their curriculum in order, both pre-clinical and clinical, and the administration and staff are very welcoming and supportive. Technological advances such as the sim center and COMET are HUGE pluses at this school. However, what, if anything, are you not happy about or would like to see changed? Thanks for your input - I'd like to keep this as constructive as possible.

Regards,

D.

How can you tell how long you were on? When did you interview and when did you get accepted? Also, did you send a letter of interest?

I wish I had been checking online but I didn't cuz I got the impression that they take a really long time.....plus out of the acceptances I have I really liked one of them....I figured if it was going to take time I didn't mind that much but to be honest I really liked UVM a lot so if I got in I think I really might go there.....

I checked my status religiously the morning decisions were supposed to go out. I knew the moment I was on the waitlist, then got an email when I was accepted. It was two hours. I interviewed December 13 and was accepted January 13. I sent a LOI right after I found out I was waitlisted, but then I was accepted before they even received it, so it didn't really matter.

I interviewed February 2nd and was told that we probably wouldn't get reviewed until March so I wasn't checking online at all, then last Friday I decided to check on whim and it said I was put on the OOS waitlist so I have absolutely no idea when I was put on. I also have no idea when decisions are going out because the info I got was very vague. Lol, seriously I think everyone that interviewed that day really wanted more definitive answers but didn't really want to ask. I sent a letter of interest on Friday when I checked though....I guess I'll see what happens 🙂

Just so everyone know, I spoke with admissions about a week ago, and they said that nearly every person who is eventually accepted is waitlisted for a varying amount of time first (could be hours, could be months)--it's just how they do things. They said it is very rare and unlikely for someone to be outright accepted after the interview.

Just to reiterate. No reason to be concerned over "waitlist" status at this point.

Accepted fairly promptly OOS without the WL thing (as info, 33/3.8+ from top 10 public university), and quite flattered and pleased, but the all-in cost is simply too great (including flights home) versus other options now available, so respectfully declining offer...good luck to someone else! Certainly a number of positives otherwise at UVM

I had a really wonderful experience staying with a student host! I would definitely recommend that you try to stay with one if you can.

+1 mine was awesome and I got to sit in a class with them

I've been "small"-pooled since October; I am still small-pooled. I'm OOS though and my stats aren't that impressive; I've only had one interview and I am on pre-interview hold at a few other places, but I'm still trying to hope for the best.

Don't get too discouraged there's still hope...Just try to look on the bright side, at least you've had one interview right? Before you know it you might get an email saying that you've been accepted 🙂

Hi everyone, interviewing on thursday, very excited!

Anyone else interviewing that day ?

Did people send letters of interest by email or snail mail? Did you address the letter to the dean?

You can just email them to the contact email on the admissions status page, and they'll email you by acknowledging that they got it.

Does anyone know when the committee will meet this month?

My interview group was told they are meeting the week of March 8th... I believe they meet on either Mon or Fri so it could be as early as March 5th.

I was wondering if someone would be so kind to answer a couple of questions about UVM and Vermont..

UVM specific questions:
1) Are there many students who participate in away rotations in California? Can these be done during the 3rd year or are they generally done in the 4th year?
2) What does an average day look like?

Vermont specific questions:
1) Is it possible to attend UVM/live in Vermont without a car?
2) Apartments - where do most students live? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Does the committee typically go over the waitlist each time they meet?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the director of admissions herself picks people off of the waitlist. Thats what the office staff told me. Email her!

Seriously???? I emailed a letter of interest but I don't want to seem annoying by harassing them....on the contact us page both the director and dean have the same email and it's [email protected] so I'm guessing she got my letter....

I feel like I pretty much said why I wanted to come to UVM in my LOI. I don't know if I'm better off waiting a while to see what happens or sending them another love letter lololol. Personally I don't mind writing another one but what else am I supposed to say?? Don't want to be repetitive...

Omg okay so I finally decided to call the office to specifically ask when the committee was going to meet again and if they typically review the waitlist at that time. But I didn't even get to ask the second question because once I mentioned that I was on the OOS waitlist she told me that when the committee meets they only review the people who have been interviewed in the past few weeks. Basically she said that they are interviewing up until April and that's when they expect to see movement on the waitlist! Of course she also reminded me that people can remain on the waitlist until school starts....like I really wanted to be reminded of that lol.....oh well....

I've seen a few current UVM students reply to posts here, so I figured I'd ask a question and hope someone will see it. Or if you are not a current student but know something about this, feel free to chime in!

I get the impression that many students end up doing away rotations during the clinical years at UVM, and this is one of the things that makes me hesitant to commit to going to the school. (By away rotations, I mean rotations where you have to actually move elsewhere for the rotation, not just rotations where you have to drive a bit outside of Burlington every day). How does the placement for these rotations work? If you want to just stay in the Burlington area the whole time, can you? If not, do you get to rank where you would like to go? How likely are you to go where you want? Does the school help you find housing if you have an away rotation? Are you expected to pay for that extra housing even though you'll also be paying for housing in Burlington?

Any insights would be great! Thanks in advance.

At the interview they told us if we pick one of the sites ( Danbury, Maine, west palm beach) they cover the expense to get you there and cover your housing while there. I am not sure about the elective rotations during the end of third year/beginning of fourth year.

At my interview day I got the impression that everybody at some point would have to do an away rotation. Though I do think that you can indicate your preference towards location.

Well, that is comforting at least, thanks for the info! I don't remember any of this stuff from my interview, clearly I was not paying enough attention.

Hey guys!

You can only choose from the three sites already mentioned in other posts during your third year. You can also make a special request to stay in the Burlington area for your entire third year if you have extenuating circumstances like a family to take care of.

Oh, and also you do get to rank where you want to be for your rotations. My limited experience (since I am still a first year) is that people choose rotations based on the experiences of other students not location. Certain sites are known for certain specialities. I will also be ranking Danbury pretty high on my list because I can live at home with my parents for these rotations. This is particularly important to me since I have two pets to consider. I believe that the housing provided at all away rotations does not allow pets or significant others/family. If you have these extenuating circumstances you need to find your own housing. If there is an M2/M3/M4 on here, please verify my comments!

Im just a bit confused at this point (Im sure this has been answered before) but how many different types of waitlists exist? Isnt it just the two in-state and out-of-state?

Thank you! Very helpful. Do you have any idea how many rotations students usually end up doing outside of Burlington? Is it usually just one, or more than that?

I am almost positive it is more than one. Usually a couple.

Near the end of 2nd year you will be asked to rank your preference for the rotation order. Once you get that via random lottery, you rank all of your location preferences from 1 through 27 (no family med in Florida) and it goes to lottery again. Your options are: Vermont, Danbury CT, West Palm Beach FL, and Bangor ME. Some outpatient sites can fall at other cities/towns in VT or ME. If you are away, you will be housed by the school and you don't have to pay rent. At FL they provide 3 vehicles for the med students to use and they purchase your plane tickets.

You are guaranteed to have everything in VT if you have a WIFE or CHILDREN in the area (or a reason along those lines, girlfriend/fiancee/mydaddy&mommy = no). Otherwise you are welcomed to rank all your top choices in VT but you have no guarantee of getting them. People who did this usually got 4-5/ 7, I got 6/7.

How good a given rotation is at a given location is well-established by now. We have a whole WIKI about it on the med student COMET website. Either way, you can make informed decisions based on the feedback at the site, your weather/location preference, and of course the upper classmen who are very willing to help.

I hope this was coherent.

Edit: I am a 4th year now and I got everything in VT just fine. A few select people ended up having to do one required acting internship in CT, but it's only for 1 month and they will be housed.

Hi, does anyone know when the next batch of final decisions will be posted? I remember my group (I interviewed February 23) was told that the admissions committee was to meet on March 2. But given that this week is spring break for UVM I don't know if we will hear anything (if the admissions office takes spring break off). Any insight would be appreciated.
